That's the thing though. The screen is a 1080p screen. (Or it's a limitation of the video card - which can't drive the higher setting. I can't tell which). The resolution selector doesn't state whether the resolution is 1080i or 1080p, and perhaps it should. See bug 550486 about the failure to identify the screen correctly. Removing the HDMI cable still fails to cause a reconfiguration. The second screen stays active until you use Monitor preferences which then detects the change. 'Apply' then switches the second screen off. Public bug reported: Software properties could do with some TLC to make adding PPA details a bit easier. (i) If the source line for a ppa is in Other Software already, then using the ppa:x/ shortcut doesn't add the binary line. (ii) The instructions on the 'Add' dialog don't tell you how to use the ppa shortcut. (iii) There doesn't appear to be a way to get it to add both the binary and the source lines in a single step. I know that 'real programmers' probably use echo from the command line, but if there is to be an interface it should at least be functionally complete.
