[Bug 1629107] Re: rpc.yppasswdd dumps core
When creating a new nis user, we add a line of the form: $NEWNAME:x:$NEWUID:1000:$DESC:/home/$NEWNAME:/bin/bash note the x. Before updating to ubuntu 16, we would then run yppassswd to change the password. We found a work around: in ubuntu 16, if you replace the x with a password, then (restart rpc.yppasswdd after it crashed) the password change works. Unfortunately Linux flotta 3.2.0-27-generic #43 SMP Sat Jul 7 15:15:28 CST 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux didn't fix my bug. I still get libv4l2: error turning on stream: No space left on device I haven't looked at the linux drivers. I have found a problem in another OS which may be similar in which a uvcvideo driver asks for a contiguous chunk of memory with which to transfer the frame. As kernel memory gets fragmented this becomes difficult until an EIO. The solution being investigated there (seems to work) is to teach ehci's usb_mem allocator about multiple extents (no longer need contiguous)... On the other hand it doesn't quite feel the same, as there the first few frames are always captured, but here I have never succeeded in capturing a single frame. [Bug 1014749] Re: can't read uvcvideo (usb video / webcams) devices
To quote from my original bug description above: "These cameras work on other computers running 10.04 - if I had to guess, this is the only computer I have with USB3 ports - so is it a USB controller driver issue?" so I agree. The other bug involves an Intel 6 series chipset, whereas this one is an X79 series chipset. I suspect that may be why your bug shows hope in a kernel regression for which some bissection can be done, whereas this box doesn't work with ubuntu 10.04 either. Just for good measure I spent a week getting windows 7 running on it, and windows is capable of displaying a webcam image, so the hardware isn't at fault... [Bug 839573] Re: blank main window oneric beta1 live cd - unity OK
I did run apport-collect from a VT (as nothing other than the dasher icons appear, cf screenshot), and that is what I meant by terminal windows are fine. Should have said tty? Try it out: apport-collect will mumble about launching a browser and that's as far as it gets - yes, from a VT. I find "please send me the log file called foo.log" a perfectly acceptible question, and exactly what I am happy to provide. (I don't find log files a waste - I do find "run this script that we hope works everywhere" a waste) "You don't mention if you have proprietary drivers" Well, from the subject of the bug, and the way to repeat: all I did was boot the beta1 CD. You tell me if it contains proprietary drivers. FWIW I just booted an opensuse 11.4 + gnome 3 CD on said box and can use it without problems. No doubt you will say "open another bug as this is a separate problem", but the point of all this originally was simply to fsck a duff ext3fs disk. The oneric beta1 cd failed to detect the SiI3124 SATALink based sata card the disk was plugged into. Opensuse did detect it, I ran fsck, now I can send the disk off under waranty, and I don't need to worry about any of this any more :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/839573 Title: blank main window oneric beta1 live cd - unity OK To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/839573/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 839573] [NEW] blank main window oneric beta1 live cd - unity OK
Public bug reported: Hard to tell if it is a duplicate of 755459. It seems to be the opposite of 745996! Easy to reproduce: Boot a oneric 32-bit live CD. Terminal windows are fine. The graphical window shows the top menubar, and left side seems to be populated. If you move the mouse over what appear to be icon positions (just see 2 inward pointing triangles) their tool tips appear. The icons themselves don't appear. If for instance you launch the dasher, all the icons and the dasher window are fine. Say you run firefox from that dasher window, the firefox menu options will all appear on the top menubar - you can "open new window", but no window appears. Nothing appears in the large main white region (desktop?) framed by the icon list on the left margin and the menubar at the top. The PC has a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra (rev. 0xa1) graphics card. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/839573 Title: blank main window oneric beta1 live cd - unity OK To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/839573/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 637747] Re: dasher crashed with SIGSEGV in Dasher::CDasherModel::HandleOutput()
Comment #14 makes sense: the dasher package was compiled to use the accessibility bus. It communicates with other programmes using it, so that is the way it delivers characters to e.g. gedit. If the accessibility bus is switched off, it can't. dasher can be built after configuring with --disable-a11y to not use the accessibility bus, but to use libXtst instead. Comment #17 is worrying - and of course, I can't reproduce it: I just had dasher running with the cursor all the way to the right and left it running for over 20minutes outputting into gedit. This was on a core duo laptop - just mentioning that given "TimerEvent" in your backtrace. In the source head we have since made simplifications in that area, so RecursiveOutput has actually already been removed, but AFAIK those changes weren't actually bug fixes, just refactorings. [Bug 579181] Re: Newline (¶) only selecta ble after punctuation or space
As you have found out, English text tends not to contain strings like \win 1\para, so adding such strings to your training text helps. Having "Language model adapts as you write" turned on and writing such strings teaches dasher about them. And another option is to try a higher value for "smoothing" (also on the "Language" tab in preferences). A higher "smoothing" value reduces the strength of the predictions, so low probability symbols such as the Paragraph symbol end up being allocated a higher probability than they deserve. [Bug 585853] Re: [Lucid] Not possible to use xdm, only can use gdm
Now I see how I was "lucky" in 7: If you run gdm, kill it, then xdm will work. Somehow gdm manages to initialise drm, ie avoids: (EE) intel(0): [drm] failed to set drm interface version. (EE) intel(0): Failed to become DRM master. So simply, I had a some stage run gdm => xdm thereafter, no matter what I tried, would work. Any clues anyone? (This is an intel (xdriinfo says i965) which I think means that the X driver needs kernel support. What stumps me, is that gdm works, therefore the kernel support must be there, and the driver OK - but what is the difference between the way gdm calls Xorg and the way xdm calls it?) -- [Lucid] Not possible to use xdm, only can use gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 585853] Re: [Lucid] Not possible to use xdm, only can use gdm
Making Xorg setuid (with hindsight obviously) didn't change anything. The (WW) xf86OpenConsole: setpgid failed: Operation not permitted (WW) xf86OpenConsole: setsid failed: Operation not permitted of the original report is definitely the cause. Looking at a copy of xorg I happen to have, i.e., not necessarily the one used in ubuntu, I see that in xorg-server/dist/hw/xfree86/os-support/linux/lnx_init.c, the calls to setpgid() and setsid() are enclosed in an if(!KeepTty) block. Adding -keeptty to /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers gets me an xdm login prompt and avoids the hang. This isn't the answer, as -keeptty isn't meant for usual operation, and again makes me wonder how gdm is treated differently - as the call is made by the same server in each case. -- [Lucid] Not possible to use xdm, only can use gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Pascal, I wonder however whether you have read the bug report. Your comment looks like a knee-jerk reaction. The error is what comes out of the printer, not what cupsd writes in the error log. Thinking about it, next time I am in the lab, I should try raw printing. The question really is, if the file is correct postscript, what is cups doing to it? It must be changing what is sent to the printer, otherwise all systems be they hardy or jaunty should behave in the same way (as it is the same printer with its postscript interpreter and the same postscript file in all cases). -- jaunty cups postscript failure (hardy success) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
