[Bug 574877] Re: proper_shutdown_behavior_for_ubuntu.patch breaks existing behaviour and may require new unknown dependancies
Hi Thomas, My install is fairly basic. I used the 'alternative' cd i386 image to install a 'minimal' system, and added X, mythfrontend and other bits from that. I have mythfrontend starting automatically from init scripts. very bare bones. Unless mythtv or X pulled in anything dbus/policykit/consolekit related, then it's not installed. Is it not possible to go back to the old behaviour? And maybe have the 'default' options to call dbus scripts to shutdown if the fields are left blank by the user? I think this would be the best of both worlds. -- proper_shutdown_behavior_for_ubuntu.patch breaks existing behaviour and may require new unknown dependancies https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574877 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 574877] [NEW] proper_shutdown_behavior_for_ubuntu.patch breaks existing behaviour and may require new unknown dependancies
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mythtv Since 0.23.0+fixes24158-0ubuntu2, a patch has been applied which causes mythtv to use DBus to attempt to shut down the system. Whilst this is a step in the right direction for the 'doing it right' argument. It breaks existing behaviour and causes dependencies which don't appear to be satisfied by the mythtv package itself. Case in point; My set-up was a custom installed ubuntu lucid system. Installed with minimal X and only whatever else I could get away with. Before this patch came in, I was using two custom commands to shut down and restart the system. Now they no longer work, and the dbus method appears to not work either. The only way I can shutdown currently is to log into the system and issue the command manually. The 'dbus' package is already installed, but it appears to not be enough to make this work. I do not know which package needs installing or configuring and this may add extra overhead this system cannot afford. No error messages appear at all to tell me why anything has failed, so I have not included logs. This patch appears to have made it in very late in Lucid's development cycle. At the very least the extra dependencies need to be added to the mythtv package so the system can shutdown and reboot. Ideally, I feel this update should be reversed until it has received more testing, as it did suddenly break a couple of machines when a feature freeze was in effect. The behaviour in ubuntu1 version was fine, and worked as expected. ** Affects: mythtv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- proper_shutdown_behavior_for_ubuntu.patch breaks existing behaviour and may require new unknown dependancies https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574877 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 194980] Re: [PS3] Hardy daily build fails to boot: Squashfs cannot mount
Hi jms, With the exception of the comments on otheros.bld, it's worth reporting these issues as separate bug reports so they can get the love that they need. This bug is mainly focused on getting the LiveCD to work. The URL is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ps3-port Colin changed the title of the bug to include [ps3] at the beginning, so I guess we should be doing that from now on if the bug is likely to be ps3 specific. [Bug 99120] Re: Missing frontend for avermedia dvb-t 771 (yet working for another 771 card)
Hi, Sorry to be taking so long with getting back to you. Work has left me with very little free time or energy recently. To confirm. Mandriva's kernel version shows as 2.6.17-13mdv in uname. I did some digging, with surprising results: When card one is installed on it's own: No issues. When card two is installed on it's own: No issues. Registers same zarlink frontend as listed in original bug report. When card one and two are installed, but are in each other's PCI slots: No issues... Mythtv picks up both cards just fine and I'm watching one program whilst recording another as I write this. I'm slightly freaked out by this. Maybe the second card was just loose the whole time? Would that even make sense? My assumption would be that it wouldn't work at all under those conditions. Please close this bug. Hopefully it will help anyone with the same issue in the future. [Bug 99120] Re: Missing frontend for avermedia dvb-t 771 (yet working for another 771 card)
Hello Phillip, Thank you for your lengthy reply. It's nice to see this bug is being taken seriously, despite my amateurish attempts at reporting it. Attached is the full dmesg report, as requested. I cannot confirm right now that it only happens on the second card. I'll have a play with removing the hardware tomorrow and get back to you on that one. Mandriva uses kernel 2.6.17 according to it's distrowatch page. I shall confirm this tomorrow by booting the livecd again. The Gentoo system used kernel 2.6.18 or 2.6.19, I'm honestly not sure. I did find this, which is concerning me. Maybe this is a hardware issue after all: http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux- dvb/2006-January/007910.html Is there a way of forcing the driver to see the board as having a specific frontend? I get the exact same error message in Mandrive One LiveCD 2007.1 This this is either a hardware issue (in which case, I apologise for wasting time and bandwidth) or a kernel issue. Interestingly, the mt352_read_register error message appears in the same place (when I modprobe the dvb-bt8xx module), so it's probably significant. I wish I knew what that error code meant. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-13-generic Hi, I have two identical (as far as I know) AverMedia 771 DVB-T cards installed on this system. This system does PVR duties with mythtv, amongst other things. [Bug 36905] Re: KDE hyperlinks in do not work in a standard (non-kde) Ubuntu enviroment.
Maybe. I think a suggestion would be good, as long as it doesn't actually require Konqueror to be installed, which would add a lot of bloat for such a simple thing. I think a much better soultion would be for a more standardised approach to the whole thing. Instead of caring if Konqueror, Firefox, Opera, MyBrowser is installed, the system should call a universal function to just open 'a browser', which Gnome, KDE, XFCE or whatever else could use to open up the browser according to the user's preferences. I've just checked out the freedesktop site hoping that would be able to help. Sadly, I cannot see anything for web browsers, unless I'm simply being thick. [Bug 36905] Re: KDE hyperlinks in do not work in a standard (non-kde) Ubuntu enviroment.
Hi, This is a fairly standard Ubuntu installation, so no Konqueror. Installing Konqeuror seems to fix the issue. But this is not an ideal solution (then again, this isn't exactly a critical bug), and I still want all URLs to open in my preffered browser (which is firefox), with this fix, the URLs present in amarok open in Konqueror. However, it's worth noting that clicking a link in the wikipedia part of Amarok (click on 'Artist' in the context menu when playing music) does actually open firefox, which is my choice in the 'General Options' section of the settings window. Also, this bug appears to affect my Fedora Core 6 installation as well. My FC6 already has Konqueror installed, but is otherwise a Gnome set-up.
