[Bug 1093626] Re: Ubuntu LiveUSB not working on USB 3.0
Well how am I supposed to do that if I can not boot? The shell launched has only basic programs like "cat", "ls", etc. Grub2 loads the kernel and its initramfs correctly, but then when control is given to kernel, it is unable to use the device where it should find the root filesystem. If you want to reproduce the error, use a Sony Vaio SVT1312V1ES, meanwhile I will try to get more details about this problem and the PC USB ports. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1093626 Title: Ubuntu LiveUSB not working on USB 3.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1093626/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Hello, Ubuntu cannot boot from a USB Drive when it is plugged in a USB 3. I have a new Sony Vaio Ultrabook without an optical drive, but with only 2 USB 3.0 entries. I created with Unetbootin a bootable Ubuntu 12.10 amd64 USB disk. The PC starts in UEFI mode and Grub2 is launched, where I choose "Try Ubuntu". After one minute the Ubuntu loading screen disappears, and a shell is opened "BusyBox" nad "initramfs". A message is also issued: "The root device cannot be found" In the shell, I went to "/dev" and tried to find my USB drive, but it wasn't there! [Bug 1041356] Re: ifupdown not working when multiple interfaces
Unfortunatly no, I replaced in '/etc/init/networking.conf' 'ifup -a' with 'ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.100 up', etc. and I appended an 'dhclient eth0'. This solution works, but I had also to change other init scripts, to avoid blocking when waiting for some event. The problem can be very easily reproduced (I reproduced it in a virtual machine). Just create a few interfaces eth0, eth1, eth2, etc. then run 'ifup eth0' through 'ifup ethX', check '/run/network' and THERE you see some 'if*' files are missing. Now try to shutdown an interface 'ifdown eth1' and if some files were missing you end up with shutting down eth0, so the server becomes unusable (I lost my SSH connection). auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static network 192.168.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 address 192.168.2.1 broadcast 192.168.2.255 auto eth2 iface eth2 inet static network 192.168.3.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.3.1 address 192.168.3.1 broadcast 192.168.3.255 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041356 Title: ifupdown not working when multiple interfaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1041356/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1041356] [NEW] ifupdown not working when multiple interfaces
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Server 12.04 ifup hangs when trying to start interface (only when using dhclient) ifdown is complaining that interfaces is not in '/run/network/ifstate', and so refusing to stop it. BUT worse ifdown eth2 will shutdown eth0, and so I lose connection over eth0 SSH. After reboot, server cannot setup network. Problem lies when ifup is forking to dhclient and it gets also messed up with is '/run/network' files. When using only one interface everything works fine but when two or more interfaces are setup it becomes buggy, for now I replaces ifup with ifconfig in '/etc/init/networking.conf'. ** Affects: apt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041356 Title: ifupdown not working when multiple interfaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1041356/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 452350] Re: Unknown LVM metadata header
OK found how to correct it :) first you need "dd" and "hexedit". Important you must understand this. LVM2 stores vg metadata informations in the first 4MB of all its pvs. After every update on a vg a new "Metadata Sequence No" is created. Every pv has its own metadata "Metadata Areas" So do "pvscan", "vgdisplay" and make out where the metadata area is. (for 'x' pv do 'dd') After that copy metadata with 'dd', and analyse the output of 'dd' with the one of 'vgdisplay'. If you are sure you have found the bad blocks open 'hexedit' on device and wipeout bad parts. please keep me informed about any changes -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452350 Title: Unknown LVM metadata header To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/452350/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 452350] Re: Unknown LVM metadata header
Hello I known why this error appears (in my case at least), if you just delete partition information and then recreate new ones for lvm2, it might happen that the metadata of the deleted lvm2 partitions is still present. The easiest way to correct this errors is to wipe out the old metadata definitions. Use hexedit and zero those sectorts from your devices, but this is very dangerous... You should ask lvm2 team to help you. Grub2 cannot fix this, but a work around could be written. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/452350 Title: Unknown LVM metadata header To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/452350/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 696826] [NEW] can't change keyboard layout
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Hello, Serious keyboard problems with Ubuntu 10.10 I changed my keyboard, now I need to change the layout from "Italy" to "Switzerland French". I opened "gnome-terminal", then typed "sudo gnome-keyboard-properties", went to "Layout" tab, added the new layout, moved it up, pressed "Apply to whole system"and clicked on "Close". The result is as expected: 1. "Switzerland French" 2. "Italy" Everything worked fine till I reboot. After reboot the layout returned from "Switzerland French" to "Italy", so I went again to "gnome-keyboard-properties", and the result was: 1. "Italy" 2. "Switzerland French" At this point I thought, why keeping the old layout, so after moving up "Switzerland French" to the top (again), I deleted the "Italy" layout, and to be sure I applied it to the whole system, closed it, then I tried it in "gedit" (everything was fine the right layout is active), finally I thought let's check it out another time (just the layout I need was in the list of "gnome-keyboard-properties") and reboot the system. After the second reboot the "Italy" layout showed up again on top: 1. "Italy" 2. "Switzerland French" and the wrong layout was active once again. I had this problem also on Ubuntu 8.04 two years back. Can anybody tell me where I can correct this, or at lease give me hint??? Last time I reinstalled Ubuntu, because nobody had an answer to this problem, which is still not corrected. Can anybody tell me where to find those source and config files, I will try to fix this.
