[Bug 106011] Re: initrd: mount of root fails, hda becomes sda (2.6.20-13 to -14)

2007-04-12 Thread dermitrius
this may not be applicable, but after update to linux-image
2.6.20-14-23, upon boot. lib-ata or sata-via is reporting a revalidation
error (error 19) on the detected detect drive (only one connected), and
as that drive is the root drive is not being found and thus system will
not continue to boot.

last valid boot was with 2.6.20-14.22-generic @ 13/april/2007 (BST)
not attaching dmesg as it dows not indicate saiud error (ie all sata stuff
clean) and has nothing to do with 2.6.20-12.23

system specs:
kubuntu 7.04 beta
2.6.20-14-23
abit kw7 (kt880)
1x WDC WDC740ADFD-00NLR1 74gb
1x excelstor 82gb (hda)
1x WDC WD400EB-00CPF0 40 gb )hdb)

[Bug 84717] Re: SRU: updates necessary for Kubuntu Upgrade Tool in Edgy

2007-03-23 Thread dermitrius
hi
i ran upgrade tool on : HP/Compaq NC6120 kde 3.5.5, used edgy-proposed
repository prior to using adept.

All ok, apart from the app crashed when "cleaning up" obsolete
packages, package it bombed on was timezoneconf. upon looking in to the
dpkg log. after dpkg removed timezoneconf, dpkg does not indicate any
failure to remove timezoneconf. it may also be worth noting that i
opened at konsole whilst it was removing timezoneconf and the app lost
focus and its screen went blank and it did't continue.

Ok, even though the dpkg log doesn't state the obosolete packages as
been removed, when cross-referencing the list i made as to what obsolete
stuff was going to be removed, all items had been removed or superseded.

after terminating the app 2 updates were left, nfs-common and nfs-kernel-server
and a dependency of libnfsidmap2. the current versions were 1:1.0.9-2ubuntu1
for nfs-common and server and the current version of libnfsidmap1. The updated
versions were 1:1.0.11~git-200605105-2 for nfs-common and server and
libnfsidmap2.
My deduction from the end of the dpkg log is that there was a dependcy issues
and that is what chocked the upgrader. I attach the dpkg log if it helps.

other than that the upgrader worked well, asked terminal questions ok etc and
prolly would have restarted ok.
