[Bug 373949] Re: Burn failure on DVDs
Same problem, K3b in Karmic says it can not find the cdrecord file. This causes mkisofs to crash making K3b worthless without severe command line programing. cdrecord, mkisofs, libcap1, cdrdao, and growisofs need to be installed into the Karmic repositories as soon as possible. In another bug report somone from Ubuntu quite forcfully told a newbe that it was his proplem because he was using wodim His explanation was this. You are not using cdrecord but wodim. You thus cannot expect that writing to DVDs works at all. If there is a known problem lets get this fixed and have it come out as a update as soon as possible. It is a confirmed bug. Everyone expects to be able to burn a disk out of the box, Kubuntu is not doing this now. Karl R. Re: [Bug 364865] Re: System reports error with Nvidia drivers
There is still a problem unless the main x-org file has been changed on the cd iso image for Karmic. I do not know if the old 71 nvidia drivers are now in the repositories or not. I use and old TNT Riva card and it requires the 71 nv drivers. If you can make sure this file is included in the repositories then someone new to ubuntu would not have to go to the Nvidia site and install manually. You know a newbe will not do this they will just drop the Linux CD into the garbage bin. Thank you. Re: [Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
The actual default driver on the use from cd and install cd will not bring up a GDM display when finished. If you boot directly from the CD no disk image on display. If you use the test installer because you can not get to the cd GDM then you still get no picture on your monitors. I was able to get around this so, no it was not the hardware. I just had to do it on about 20 machines. [Bug 364865] Re: System reports error with Nvidia drivers
The Nvidia Legacy graphics drivers are not even in the Karmic repositories. I had to go back to the jaunty repository to get the drivers for all Nvidia legacy cards. For example TNT and Vanta cards the use the nvida 71.xxx driver and kernel patch. Because some of us use old hardware it is disappointing to see Ubuntu abandon the legacy proprietary drivers in Karmic and future releases. Please add nvidia legacy driver support back into the distribution for the future. I install Ubuntu on many computers for a non-profit organization. We use many old donated computers. We need Ubuntu to continue to offer these legacy drivers andd support for there installation of of the box. As I stated the 71.xxx drivers have been abandoned in the repositories for Karmic. I had to go back to the jaunty repository to find the Nvidia 71.xxx driver and then attempt to set it up correctly. Re: [Bug 487361] Re: nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
Bryce, I do not think this bug should go to the nvidia graphic drivers 180 group as that is not where the problem lies. The problem is with the default xorg driver at boot of the CD of karmic and if I use the text installer which I did after the first problem with booting from the cd the computer will not get to an active xorg display on first boot. This is a function of the original graphics driver installed by the karmic final release medium. So I think the problem is there. This is a bug in the Koala CD final boot from CD xorg driver and install via the text installer because you can never get to an actual desktop display to install from the live CD rom. [Bug 487361] [NEW] nvidia 7600GS does not boot from install cd or from first boot
Public bug reported: The default xorg driver does not show a workable screen from the install cd or from the standard xorg driver after installation. I needed to drop to a root console to install the nv 180 driver for my nvidia 7600GS systems. It was very frustrating because about 20 of my systems use the nividia 7600GS card. Having no display show up when booting from cd or after using the text install from the 1st hard drive on every machine was a pain. I have noticed several bug reports with the nvidia 7600 cards closed or just dropped. This is a true bug in the Karmic final release. I have tried it on multiple machines. karlrhs Its been having boot problems for about a week now, the pale ACER logo screen appears then goes to a blank screen, also the BIOS setting option dont appear (F2) so I cant get into BIOS. i've been looking around for solutions such as re-seating the RAM, putting the BIOS update on a flash pen drive and booting up holding the FN + ESC keys and tried the ACER Boot disc but none seem to be working. I have a LINUX disc (UBUNTU) it runs from the disc only so it does not affect my machine. It first starts up with the options: 1, Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer 2, Install Ubuntu 3, Check disc for defects 4, Test Memory 5, Boot from first hard disk (I tried this and it just goes to a blank screen) It also has F function options: F1 = Help F2 = Language F3 = Keymap F4 = Modes F5 = Accessibility F6 = Other Options "Press F4 to select alternative start-up and installation modes" I select the first option "Try Ubuntu" It runs the Ubuntu load up sequence (takes awhile) then it checks if everything is [OK]. After this sequence a Error Caution message appears saying: "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode" The following error was encountered. You may need to update your configuration to solve this. (EE) NV(0): No valid FB address in PCI config space (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. The only option i get is to click OK. Then it comes up with a menu saying "What would you like to do?" 1, Run Ubuntu in low-graphics mode for just one session 2, Reconfigure graphics 3, Troubleshoot the error 4, Exit to console login I ran the first option and a blue screen pops up saying: "there already appears to be an X server running on display :0. Should another display number by tried? Answering no will cause GDM to attempt starting the server on :0 again. (You can change consoles by pressing Ctrl-Alt plus a function key, such as Ctrl-Alt-F7 to go to console 7. X servers usually run on console 7 and higher)" I press yes and Ubuntu loads. I looked in Hardware Drivers, it comes up with three drivers: 1, NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 180) [Recommended] 2, NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 173) 3, NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 96) None of them are Activated and it won't let me activate them. It does state "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system". I restarted to get back to the options above and chose the third option "Troubleshoot the error". It comes up with more options: What information would you like to review? 1, Review the xserver log file 2, Review the startup errors 3, Edit configuration file 4, Archive configuration and logs I clicked option two and one error was found "Fatal Server Error: No screens found". I am not sure where or what to do next, I was running a Windows 7 professional edition. But it seems to have died on me, Im new to Ubuntu so im kind of lost. Now my system is running ubuntu under a resolution of 800*600 (temporary installation method). Will permenantly installing Ubuntu Fix this? I hope the information I gave here is understandable. Re: [Bug 453567] Re: karmic beta live cd X settings out of range
You know, if I were one attempting Ubuntu for the first time I would have abandoned my attempt right there. I would have went and looked for windows 7. You have to have a live CD that works out of the box. We need to push back the release cycle if this is what continues to happen. Yes I fixed the problem as well, but this does not make Ubuntu look good. There should be no need for a work around. I love the Ubuntu community and have some loyalty, but if this kind of after final release problems continue I will need to look inot moving my customers to Red Hat. Come on Ubuntu developers we need to test our final product better. It must work better than windows right off the bat. No need for work arounds at all. Thank you. [Bug 84999] Re: Missing default gutenprint.xml - printconf error
Epson Stylus C86 is not even a option in your gui. The only option is for Stylus which we can see gives the wrong driver. My guess this is for all Espson Stylus C printers not just mine. I do not think this is a KDE issue because PCLinuxOS does not have this problem so I have not switched to that distro for my print server on my other machine. This is not a problem in Ubuntu because it gives the option for all Epson C printers in the gui drop down menu. Fix this problem and I may come back to Kubuntu but until it is is fixed I will stick with several other KDE distros that do not seem to have a problem configuring my Epson Stylus C86. -- Missing default gutenprint.xml - printconf error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/84999 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52581] Re: Epson C86 printer misconfigured
It does not give an option for Epson Stylus C86 in the printer driver options. You can not even select an Epson Stylus C86 because it is not an option to select in your drop down list. For this reason I have left for PClinuxOS. Also a KDE product that seems to have no problem giving the correct driver. This is probably not a KDE problem since other KDE distros are not having a problem. -- Epson C86 printer misconfigured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/52581 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a bug contact for kdebase in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 51542] network printer auto-discovery
Public bug reported: this is similar to bug 313173 that was said to be resolved. It is not resolved attempt to set up a networked printer between 2 Dapper machines and no matter what you do it will not go. It will ask over and over for a password but no one seems to know what this is. If you want kubuntu to help small business this can not happen. I found an article by a kde developer for cups that says some functionality was taken out of Dapper that would solve this problem. I fixed it on my own machine so I know a fix exists.
