[Bug 276603] Re: crashed while listening to a mp3 podcast
By the way James, regarding the build dependencies: you can always install the build dependencies for any package using sudo apt-get build-dep PACKAGE_NAME. I should have included sudo apt-get build-dep rhythmbox after the apt-get source step above. -- crashed while listening to a mp3 podcast https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276603 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If you have a segv that's unrelated to this bug. However, there was recently another bug in RB where it would crash when it started to download the second file every time you selected more than one file and then right clicked and selected download. That bug has also been fixed upstream. [Bug 273708] Re: [g45] xorg hangs on startup (compiz turned off)
Once keithp had written that patch I git-format-patch'ed it (both the intel 2D driver part and the intel AGP kernel module part) and attached those patches to a separate bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-meta/+bug/285572 I then asked AmitK and Bryce to get both patches merged into intrepid (which they did). So basically intrepid final was able to boot straight into EXA for G45 even with compiz turned on etc (using the live CD config for instance). Further, I'm now using jaunty on this G45 machine and that also works perfectly with no extra patches because the intel AGP patch is already included in the upstream .28 kernel and the 2.5.0 intel 2D driver also has the corresponding GART memory fix. It sounds a little bit like desertoak's issue is another bug (I never looked into that and I don't know if his bug was fixed in intrepid final and/or jaunty). -- [g45] xorg hangs on startup (compiz turned off) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, that's correct. The file is corrupt and won't play in any player. However, VLC also runs as a browser plugin so this bug could be used to crash people's browser remotely. Please obtain a stacktrace for this segv. [Bug 299152] Re: synergyc dies with xcb_lock.c assertion failed
I modified the code around the assert to say: /* if Xlib has a partial request pending then XCB doesn't know about * the current request yet */ if(dpy-xcb-partial_request) { ++xcb_req; printf (partial request thing\n); } if (XCB_SEQUENCE_COMPARE(xcb_req, , dpy-request)) { printf (xcb_req=%u\n, xcb_req); printf (dpy-request=%u\n, dpy-request); print_backtrace(); fflush(stdout); } assert(XCB_SEQUENCE_COMPARE(xcb_req, =, dpy-request)); dpy-request = xcb_req; And then it prints: xcb_req=3334 dpy-request=3335 So basically, this means that the code near when the assert is triggered does NOT take the branch into the ++xcb_req statement. I've no idea if it is supposed to do that or not but that would certainly have prevented the assert from being hit? -- synergyc dies with xcb_lock.c assertion failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/299152 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 305983] [NEW] [g45 only] error flood in dmesg constantly takes 30-100% CPU on one core
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This on happens on my intel g45 machine (not on my 965 laptop which also uses the intel driver). Basically /bin/dd, /sbin/klogd, /sbin/syslogd constantly take up 30-100% of a single core on my machine. This happens because some strange error is being fired constatly from the intel xorg driver. [Bug 305996] [NEW] launchpad tells me to run command that prints assert errror
Public bug reported: When trying to report a bug for xserver-xorg-video-intel, then the launchpad bug reporting tool tells me that I should report this bug using the command ubuntu-bug -p xserver-xorg-video-intel instead so that logs get automatically attached. [Bug 297780] [NEW] awn doesn't show any error when launch with compiz off
Public bug reported: I was following the instructions here: http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2008/11/11/installing-and-setting-up-avant-window-navigator/ ...and it didn't work. The problem was that I had compiz turn off. Since I was launching awn from the GNOME accessories menu I did not receive any error message. This bug is about the poor UX and the suggestion is that awn shows a GUI based error dialog instead. After it didn't work launching it as a GUI app I assumed that it had SIGSEGV'ed so I started a terminal but from there the problem was obvious because awn prints the following to the terminal: Error: Screen isn't composited. Please run compiz (-fusion) or another compositing manager. And yes I have compiz turned off. But awn still needs to be better at communicating that to the user (even if awn is started from the accessories menu). ** Affects: avant-window-navigator (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- awn doesn't show any error when launch with compiz off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297780 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 285572] Re: X freezes right after login when using EXA on G45 machine
After more usage, I've found two issues while running intrepid on G45 using the current driver bits. The patches above are still a success because this machine is now usable (no xorg freeze after login) and with compiz off it actually works perfectly. I will file separate bugs for these issues but I just wanted to list them here as well for completeness. * When compiz is active and you move a glxgears window, then it leaves a trail of damaged but not repainted areas. If compiz is off glxgears works perfectly. * Sometimes when compiz is active I see constant dmesg spam (actually dd,klogd,syslogd and xorg are taking a lot of CPU but they can't max out all my four cores though so the system is very much usable despite this log-while-spinning-in-a-loop however with less cores this might be a big problem). This problem goes away when compiz is turned off though. The log spam looks like this: [ 144.125185] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0x40206443, nr=0x43, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.125186] [drm:i915_batchbuffer] i915 batchbuffer, start 4b75000 used 40 cliprects 0 [ 144.125190] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0xc0086444, nr=0x44, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.125191] [drm:i915_emit_irq] [ 144.125195] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0x4008642a, nr=0x2a, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.125196] [drm:drm_lock] 1 (pid 5686) requests lock (0x0002), flags = 0x [ 144.125200] [drm:i915_driver_irq_handler] i915_driver_irq_handler flag=0002 [ 144.125201] [drm:drm_lock] 1 has lock [ 144.135444] [drm:i915_driver_irq_handler] i915_driver_irq_handler flag=0080 [ 144.148778] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0x4008642a, nr=0x2a, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.148781] [drm:drm_lock] 1 (pid 5686) requests lock (0x0001), flags = 0x000a [ 144.148783] [drm:drm_lock] 1 has lock [ 144.148787] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0x4004644d, nr=0x4d, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.148853] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0x4018643f, nr=0x3f, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.148856] [drm:drm_update_drawable_info] Updated 0 cliprects for drawable 1 [ 144.270843] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0x40046445, nr=0x45, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.270848] [drm:i915_wait_irq] irq_nr=77925 breadcrumb=77925 [ 144.270852] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0x40046445, nr=0x45, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.270854] [drm:i915_wait_irq] irq_nr=77922 breadcrumb=77925 [ 144.270856] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0x40046445, nr=0x45, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.270858] [drm:i915_wait_irq] irq_nr=77925 breadcrumb=77925 [ 144.270935] [drm:drm_ioctl] pid=5686, cmd=0xc0086421, nr=0x21, dev 0xe200, auth=1 [ 144.270937] [drm:drm_rmctx] 2 -- X freezes right after login when using EXA on G45 machine https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285572 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 288269] [NEW] [REGRESSION] skype audio input/output broken in intrepid (worked in hardy)
Public bug reported: Skype was working perfectly for me in hardy but when I upgraded to intrepid pre-release it stopped working. I was previously using default device in the sound settings of Skype (for both input and output). In intrepid I cannot get it to work regardless or what sound options I try. FWIW, I'm running an integrated intel HDA card with a Realtek ALC268 codec. Thpugh, when I run alsamixer the listed chipset is pulse of course (I'm using the default config for everything, no hacks). I have the exact same version of Skype (latest) and the Skype version didn't change when I upgraded (obviously). Therefore I believe that somebody changed something in the underlying sound infrastructure and while possibly fixing some other bug they also accidently screwed up Skype functionality. I looked at info sharedlibrary using gdb and these are the ones that I think are the sound related modules inside Skype. It looks likely to me that this problem was a result of a change inside either Pulse Audio or inside ALSA. 0xb7e92530 0xb7f24068 Yes /usr/lib/libasound.so.2 0xb6dca8b0 0xb6dda388 Yes /usr/lib/libaudio.so.2 0xb6bcc9a0 0xb6bcd698 Yes /usr/lib/libXau.so.6 0xb67dabd0 0xb68019c8 Yes /usr/lib/liblcms.so.1 0xb6709670 0xb670bbc8 Yes /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_ctl_pulse.so 0xb5ab3c60 0xb5af0638 Yes /usr/lib/libpulse.so.0 0xb6878990 0xb6879f24 Yes /lib/libcap.so.1 0xb6702ad0 0xb6705288 Yes /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so 0xb5d16c30 0xb5d18d48 Yes /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_rate_speexrate.so Not being able to use Skype is a _big deal_ for many I suspect, and I really hope this can be fixed somehow despite Skype not being FLOSS. I should add that playing sound in totem or audacious works perfectly. Recording in GNOME Sound Recorder doesn't work but I'm not sure whether that ever worked (I probably did though?). In gnome-sound- recorder I get this huge CPU spike when I start to record and when I press stop the CPU just keeps spinning on 100% CPU for around 30 seconds before the STOP button even paints itself back as unpressed again. The recorded sound is longer than the recording and completely silent. [Bug 285572] Re: X freezes right after login when using EXA on G45 machine
Good question Amit. I'm 98% sure the corresponding xf86-intel patch is: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=4dd00681dd0f9fce8dfd4592b46418edbbd2eeb4 Which means that it only applies to GM45 cards (i.e. laptops with a modern intel card). On the G45 machines (desktop with integrated modern intel card) the AGP fix alone is sufficient not just to boot but to run full compiz etc. I only have a G45 machine so I can only confirm that part of the story. To sort this out I've asked the intel driver maintainers to clarify the patch dependency and also give their opinion about the suitability of cherry picking this/these patches. [Bug 273708] Re: xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off)
To apply the patch I was talking about you need to rebuild one of your kernel module which is not a trivial task but if you're feeling lucky try this: 0. install tools needed for building the linux kernel by running this command sudo apt-get build-dep linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic 1. create some empty directory for your linux kernel code 2. cd into that directory 3. run apt-get source linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic 4. cd into linux-2.6.27/drivers/char/agp 5. run this command to build all kernel modules in that directory make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=$PWD modules (note also that the quotes should be shell backtick quotes) 6. if everything went fine you should have a newly created file called intel-agp.ko (still in the same dir as the source file called intel-agp.c) 7. copy the generated intel-agp.ko into /lib/modules/2.6.27-7-generic/kernel/drivers/char/agp/intel-agp.ko.fixed_version (remember to use sudo when you copy stuff into /lib ) 8. now cd to the directory /lib/modules/2.6.27-7-generic/kernel/drivers/char/agp 9. make a backup of you existing intel-agp.ko file by typing sudo cp intel-agp.ko intel-agp.ko.original (be prepared to restore this old version using some boot cd or whatever if this screws up your machine royally!) 10. copy the generated ko file from intel-agp.ko.fixed_version to intel-agp.ko (overwriting the existing one, but this is okay because you got the backup) 11. reboot Note: I also think it's possible to reinstall the originally (buggy version) using sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux- image-2.6.27-7-generic but I still think you should backup the original .ko file just to be sure -- xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 273708] Re: xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off)
haha, sorry I forgot the most important part. dont forget to apply the patch!!! otherwise you'll just build the same buggy version as ubuntu ships. to apply the patch do these extra steps between 3) and 4) above: step 3.1) download the .patch file I've attached to this bug and save it inside the linux-2.6.27 directory which is a subfolder inside the directory you created for you kernel source code step 3.2) then cd into the directory linux-2.6.27 step 3.4) run patch -p1 downloaded_filename.patch PS. I wrote these steps without testing them so maybe I forgot something. [Bug 273708] Re: xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off)
desertoak, I just attached an URL to the upstream bug report I filed in the beginning of october. Since then Keith Packard have written a patch for this bug and Eric Anholt improved and merged that patch. The bug was in intel-agp.ko (a component inside the Linux kernel) and Eric's tree has been pulled into Daniel Airlie's DRM tree which is turn has been pulled by Linus Torvalds so it's very likely that this fix will be in the 2.6.28 kernel. That said, this still means that G45-based motherboards might not boot on intrepid final unless someone from the ubuntu kernel team decides to cherry pick this particular patch (see below). I'm not sure that's going to happen though because we're beyond the kernel freeze in the intrepid schedule (at least I've e-mailed them about it). I suspect that the only change you need to make G45 work nicely is this one: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/anholt/drm-intel.git;a=blobdiff;f=drivers/char/agp/intel-agp.c;h=f1fe7490131468b40c5817e232442026d9f8ff0d;hp=016fdf0623a4ce7b5f849efc8ab099a2c5026497;hb=2052746fc8397130c120f0194a89938b0b62b6cb;hpb=b34c87315b1a2822111fc8ef744ef504f9be2f85 Applying this change is indeed sufficient to fix my machine. -- xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 285572] [NEW] X freezes right after login when using EXA on G45 machine
Public bug reported: So my machine with intel chipset G45 (motherboard is Gigabyte GA-EG45M- DS2H) freezes right after boot when X.org runs in EXA mode. Upstream have now provided a fix for this and the bug was in intel-agp.ko. Further I have tried to apply this patch to the intrepid kernel and it works, I can login without any hacks in xorg.conf, and I get direct direct rendering etc. The patch that made it work was: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/anholt/drm-intel.git;a=blobdiff;f=drivers/char/agp/intel-agp.c;h=f1fe7490131468b40c5817e232442026d9f8ff0d;hp=016fdf0623a4ce7b5f849efc8ab099a2c5026497;hb=2052746fc8397130c120f0194a89938b0b62b6cb;hpb=b34c87315b1a2822111fc8ef744ef504f9be2f85 Even though is pretty late in the game I think this patch should be considered for cherry picking into intrepid. Personally I will run the git versions anyway but a lot of new users with modern intel machines might not be able to do that. [Bug 237401] Re: totem tries to allocate 4GB
Here is the glib allocation code: gpointer g_malloc (gsize n_bytes) { if (G_UNLIKELY (!g_mem_initialized)) g_mem_init_nomessage(); if (G_LIKELY (n_bytes)) { gpointer mem; mem = glib_mem_vtable.malloc (n_bytes); if (mem) return mem; g_error (%s: failed to allocate %G_GSIZE_FORMAT bytes, G_STRLOC, n_bytes); } return NULL; } Basically, what happened was that the glib_mem_vtable.malloc() freaked out about the huge size requested and as a response it returned NULL. This in turn caused the program to call g_error() which printed the error. Re-running this scenario under gdb with a breakpoint on g_error and then obtaining a backtrace would probably be interesting because the bug is almost certainly in the calling code (possibly in totem). However, if the reporter does not have a specific set of steps that can reproduce this bug then further analysis is not possible. [Bug 78081] Re: valgrind crashes on memcheck for a given program
Daniel, I still get SIGSEGV in memcheck when analysing pretty much _any_ program using valgrind on a x64 with intrepid. Upstream says valgrind should be working on x64 so this is likely an ubuntu bug and not a general valgrind bug. The specific crash I am seeing is the exact one that D3m0n1q_733rz report about above, i.e. a crash in do_syscall_WR. My auto submitted crash report is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/valgrind/+bug/278542 I found found another duplicate of my bug here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/valgrind/+bug/162933 And of course my bug report closed as a duplicate of a third report (bug id 208120) however this bug is not accessible by the community. I think getting valgrind to work on intrepid/x64 should be fairly high priority seeing as how valgrind is used for finding and analyzing many other bugs. -- valgrind crashes on memcheck for a given program https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/78081 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 277296] [NEW] totem spins CPU 100% while allocating (infinitely) because pulseaudio process is not available
Public bug reported: (I wrote this bug report with a lot of newbie info regarding all the stuff I did to analyze it, I'm including this info in here so that if other people find this bug maybe someone can learn something from it) Today my entire X session hung when I was playing some songs in totem. Since the keyboard wasn't responding and the screen wasn't being updated I logged in through ssh from another machine. Once logged in I launched top and there I saw totem and pulseaudio both taking abount 1 percent CPU each constantly. I then killed pulse audio and this for some reason caused totem to start spinning with 100% CPU consumption while slowly also growing in VIRT size (it was both being stuck in a loop and it was also allocating more and more memory). At this point I launched gdb on totem to see why it was taking 100% CPU. Anyway, what I did was that I ran info threads inside gdb to see which threads where standing still in blocking functions like select, poll and pthread_cond_wait etc. In this case it turned out that only one thread was really alive and I used thread 3 to move to this thread in gdb. The stack I saw in there looked like this: #0 0x7fb1251ddf92 in free () from /lib/libc.so.6 #1 0x7fb12d24f189 in gst_object_get_path_string (object=value optimized out) at gstobject.c:1108 #2 0x7fb12d264de8 in gst_element_message_full (element=0x7fb10c01b000, type=GST_MESSAGE_ERROR, domain=3398, code=1, text=0x163c880 Disconnected: Connection terminated, debug=0x0, file=0x7fb11ca4a2a5 pulsesink.c, function=0x7fb11ca4a950 gst_pulsesink_write, line=536) at gstelement.c:1665 #3 0x7fb11ca460bd in gst_pulsesink_write (asink=value optimized out, data=0x7fb114148020, length=value optimized out) at pulsesink.c:556 #4 0x7fb129ade348 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 #6 0x7fb12933b3ea in start_thread () from /lib/libpthread.so.0 #7 0x7fb125248c6d in clone () from /lib/libc.so.6 #8 0x in ?? () It seems that clone calls start_thread which then calls some unknown function ?? inside libglib-2.0.so.0 and that this unknown function ?? calls another unknown function inside the library libgstaudio-0.10.so.0 Clearly this was going to be hard with a lot of unknown functions in the stacktrace so I quit gdb and I installed debug symbols for these libraries. To install debug libraries I needed to figure out what package installed the file libgstaudio-0.10.so.0 onto my system. For this I used the following command: dpkg -S libgstaudio-0.10.so.0 It prints that this particular file was installed through the libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 package and thus I need to find debug symbols for this package. While trying to debug something else a long time ago I had previous completed step 1) from this guide (see below). And this meant that I had all the blah-dbgsym packages available already and I could install debug symbols using normal apt-get install something-dbgsym. Guide how to make it possible to install yadayada-dbgsym packages in ubuntu: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash So anyway I just typed sudo apt-get install libgstreamer-plugins-base and then I pressed TAB too see what the TAB completion options was. It printed stuff like: libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0-dbgsym libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev Clearly, the package that I was looking for was libgstreamer-plugins- base0.10-0-dbgsym so I installed this package. Then I did the same thing for libglib-2.0.so.0 which led to to install the libglib2.0-0-dbgsym package. By this time the VIRT size was already like 9GB and I only got 8GB so the system started to swap to the harddrive and there was just no way I could save a core and attach to the bugzilla report etc :-) Anyway, I quickly launched gdb again. I looked at info threads and I tried to find the thread that was running crazy in a loop. I used thread N to switch to it. Now, because I had debug symbols I got this really nice stacktrace with no unknown function names: #0 0x7fb1251db102 in _IO_str_overflow_internal () from /lib/libc.so.6 #1 0x7fb1251da116 in _IO_default_xsputn_internal () from /lib/libc.so.6 #2 0x7fb1251acb1d in vfprintf () from /lib/libc.so.6 #3 0x7fb125261340 in __vasprintf_chk () from /lib/libc.so.6 #4 0x7fb125542deb in IA__g_vasprintf (string=0x43dacce0, format=value optimized out, args=value optimized out) at /usr/include/bits/stdio2.h:199 #5 0x7fb12552f6e1 in IA__g_strdup_printf (format=0xfbad8000 Address 0xfbad8000 out of bounds) at /build/buildd/glib2.0-2.18.1/glib/gstrfuncs.c:218 #6 0x7fb12d264e08 in gst_element_message_full (element=0x7fb10c01b000, type=GST_MESSAGE_ERROR, domain=3398, code=1, text=value optimized out, debug=0x0, file=0x7fb11ca4a2a5 pulsesink.c, function=0x7fb11ca4a950 gst_pulsesink_write, line=536) at

[Bug 273708] [NEW] xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off)
Public bug reported: Trying to boot Ubuntu on a machine with Gigabyte GA-EG45M-DS2H motherboard (Intel G45-chipset) which means it has the Intel GMA X4500HD graphics card. A few second after boot (usually before gnome-panel has finished loading) X.org goes bonkers and start to flash (looks like it's going modesetting or probing or something). After a few seconds or flashing back and other I see a dialog displayed but at this point the graphics has become corrupted and I can't read what the dialog says. I can still move the cursor over this dialog (even though the mouse cursor is also corrupted). If I try CTRL-ALT-F1 I can sometimes get to a normal text terminal and sometimes even the text terminal is corrupted. The kernel is not hung though, even though the text terminal effectively prevents me from reading anything I type or that is printed; I can still type in command blindly like sudo reboot now and it will reboot properly. The GDM screen is rock solid, no problems there. Also I got compiz turned off (by adding exit just under the #/bin/sh inside the /usr/bin/compiz script). FYI: I've tried two different monitors (both using DVI-D). First one is a HP L1925 19 LCD and the other one is a Samsung 22 LCD Syncmaster 2253BW. I don't think the monitor has anything to do with it. I think I got the 2.4.1 version of the intel driver. I did try building it from scratch (including the needed libdrm). After doing buil- dep/configure/make they looked like they compiled right (not an expert) and then I just did make install but I've no idea if I actually did it properly. There is two interesting stacktraces with proper symbols in the attached xorg.0.log files. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Oh, and I'm using the 64-bit version of Ubuntu. -- xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 273708] Re: xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off)
If someone else runs into this bug, note that adding: Option AccelMethod XAA inside the Device section of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and then rebooting makes the system run just fine without any crashes (using XAA instead of EXA probably gives not so good gfx perf and I don't think you can run compiz with XAA). Still, this is a very useful workaround for people waiting for a fix. -- xorg hangs on startup (intel G45, compiz turned off) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
