[Bug 930608] Re: Machine restart on connecting beagleboard to serial port
** Description changed: I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and when ever I connect beagleboard-xm embedded device to the serial port of my machine and turn it on, the machine restarts. It happens on all serial port applications like gtkterm, cutecom, minicom, etc. I think its a bug with the serial port driver or the kernel. The serial port settings are 115200, no parity, 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no flow control. Tried the same from virtual console using minicom and disabling the GUI and still the same problem. Tried the same by rebooting in recovery mode, drop to root shell, using minicom and it works perfectly fine. + Update : Without even starting the terminal application in Ubuntu, just + by starting the beagleboard xm the machine restarts ! + The same machine work properly on Windows XP + Hyperterminal. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930608 Title: Machine restart on connecting beagleboard to serial port To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/930608/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The default screen resolution is 1280*1024 (5:4) which causes a lot of flickering. I had to change it to 1024*768 and it works correctly but the redraw is still very slow. Everything locks up (cannot kill x, or switch to a terminal). I have to reset the machine. I had the same problem with hardy 8.10 live cd. I rebooted and select the "safe graphics mode" in the grub boot option (vesa drivers). This time it did not freeze but the display way totally unreadable with a huge lot of flickering happening. I tried to take a screenshot, but the screenshot comes up correctly. I then change the resolution to 1024*768 in System > Preference > Screen resolution and now it works correctly. But the redraw rate is very slow and I have to wait for sometime for the application to redraw itself correctly. Also the refresh rate is not shown at all in the Screen resolution settings. [Bug 222400] Re: Geforce 2 MX Resolutuion problem in Hardy
I am using the 2d drivers. Did you check to make sure you have the latest nvdia drivers installed from the restricted section? a GeForce 2 card would need to use the legacy drivers. This I suppose is for - if I want 3D. The 3D drivers for nvidia are broken and after email them so many times nvidia bluntly refuses to do anything about this. Also I tried the kubuntu hardy cd yesterday and had the same problem. Only thing was I was able to set the monitor as 1024x768 Generic monitor and then change the resolution to 1024x768 - and it worked fine. I could not find the options to change tne monitor settings in the hardy version of gnome. I will look for this more throughly this weekend and report back. Btw kudos to Ubuntu team. I am using hardy at my office machine and it works great. [Bug 217688] [NEW] Hotplug networking

If the machine is started and booted upto the login prompt with out the network cable connected, it does not detect the network. I use pppoe for internet access and $sudo pppoe-discovery does not detect any servers on the network if the machine is started without the network cable plugged.
