[Bug 930608] Re: Machine restart on connecting beagleboard to serial port

2012-02-11 Thread pshahmumbai
** Description changed:

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and when ever I connect beagleboard-xm embedded
device to the serial port of my machine and turn it on, the machine
restarts. It happens on all serial port applications like gtkterm,
cutecom, minicom, etc. I think its a bug with the serial port driver or
the kernel. The serial port settings are 115200, no parity, 8 bits, 1
  stop bit, no flow control.

Tried the same from virtual console using minicom and disabling the GUI
  and still the same problem.

Tried the same by rebooting in recovery mode, drop to root shell, using
minicom and it works perfectly fine.

+ Update : Without even starting the terminal application in Ubuntu, just
+ by starting the beagleboard xm the machine restarts !
+
The same machine work properly on Windows XP + Hyperterminal.

2009-02-03 Thread pshahmumbai
Thanks for the update. It has fixed the freeze issue :)

There is one minor problem : the 2d performance is still very slow. I
can see the X redraw line passing across the screen !

eg : An analogy will be like, when one is using a presentation tool and
going from one slide to next - the vertical transition effect we can
see.

That is how currently X is redrawing. Its really slow.

[Bug 318651] Re: Live CD Freezes while starting x.org - K8M890CE chipset

2009-01-18 Thread pshahmumbai
The default screen resolution is 1280*1024 (5:4) which causes a lot of
flickering. I had to change it to 1024*768 and it works correctly but
the redraw is still very slow. I have to wait for few seconds before the
app redraws itself every time (maybe this is due to vesa drivers).

[Bug 318651] [NEW] Live CD Freezes while starting x.org - K8M890CE chipset

2009-01-18 Thread pshahmumbai
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I am using a AMD 64 with ASUS K8V-MX motherboard. It has onchip VIA
display card (K8M890CE chipset)

When I boot into the third alpha release of Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty
Jackalope" live cd, the computer freeze at the point of starting the
x.org server. Everything locks up (cannot kill x, or switch to a
terminal). I have to reset the machine.

I had the same problem with hardy 8.10 live cd.

I rebooted and select the "safe graphics mode" in the grub boot option
(vesa drivers). This time it did not freeze but the display way totally
unreadable with a huge lot of flickering happening. I tried to take a
screenshot, but the screenshot comes up correctly.

I then change the resolution to 1024*768 in System > Preference > Screen
resolution and now it works correctly. But the redraw rate is very slow
and I have to wait for sometime for the application to redraw itself
correctly.

Also the refresh rate is not shown at all in the Screen resolution
settings. (Screenshot attached).

I have also attached the kernel log file, x.org configuration file and
boot log file. I have change anything except selecting the vesa mode in
the main boot option and changing the screen resolution to 1024*768

there is a lot of flickering on the screen. I managed to somehow

[Bug 222400] Re: Geforce 2 MX Resolutuion problem in Hardy

2008-04-29 Thread pshahmumbai
I am using the 2d drivers.

Did you check to make sure you have the latest nvdia drivers
installed from the restricted section? a GeForce 2 card would need to
use the legacy drivers.

This I suppose is for - if I want 3D. The 3D drivers for nvidia are
broken and after email them so many times nvidia bluntly refuses to do
anything about this.

Also I tried the kubuntu hardy cd yesterday and had the same problem.
Only thing was I was able to set the monitor as 1024x768 Generic monitor
and then change the resolution to 1024x768 - and it worked fine.

I could not find the options to change tne monitor settings in the hardy
version of gnome. I will look for this more throughly this weekend and
report back.

Btw kudos to Ubuntu team. I am using hardy at my office machine and it
works great. Great job !!

[Bug 217688] [NEW] Hotplug networking

2008-04-15 Thread pshahmumbai
Public bug reported:

Network cable has to be plugged in the ethernet card before the booting
of ubuntu for the network to work.

If the machine is started and booted upto the login prompt with out the
network cable connected, it does not detect the network. I have to
restart my machine with the network cable plugged into the ethernet
card.

I use pppoe for internet access and $sudo pppoe-discovery does not
detect any servers on the network if the machine is started without the
network cable plugged. Cant plug it later.

[Bug 208706] [NEW] K8M890 display doesnt work in Gutsy

2008-03-29 Thread pshahmumbai
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. K8M890
[Chrome9] Integrated Video (rev 11)

The display is stuck at 640x 480 with the vesa drivers.

I deleted the xorg.conf and rebooted and now the display is at highest
resolution like 1600 and cant change it !!

So I can only use two resolution either 640x480 or the 1600x
