[Bug 1181341] Re: Cannot set up e-mail account with provider with no SMTP
Hello Barry, Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird. You made this bug report in 2013 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then. Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket? Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once): apport-collect BUGNUMBER and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better. [Bug 1181341] Re: Cannot set up e-mail account with provider with no SMTP
Further research: I can work around the problem provided I turn off the internet connection and manually set up the IMAP and SMTP settings. Provided I set the SMTP to mail.crosswire.org I am allowed to put in a security exception and after that, I can change the SMTP address to a different one from crosswire. If I start with a different SMTP, I get the Warning screen with no checkbox. All other servers that I have tried do not give me this problem. I think it has to do with the nature of the security of the crosswire site, and the fact that it is not found in any of the databases. I have tried in vain to get someone who uses the crosswire mail server to test and confirm, so far without success. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181341 Title: Cannot set up e-mail account with provider with no SMTP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1181341/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1181341] Re: Cannot set up e-mail account with provider with no SMTP
This bug has been in Thunderbird for some time - it appears in all Ubuntu releases from at least 10.04. I have copied the .thunderbird into each new release so have not seen the bug until now. I think it should be possible to demonstrate it by using a false username etc. Note that the password always has to contain a digit and an uppercase letter. My password is six characters long.
