[Bug 345011] Re: Extra monitor bugs

2009-05-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
For Jaunty we've moved on to -180, and there are no plans to SRU a newer
version for Intrepid (as per the SRU team policies, binary proprietary
drivers cannot be updated in stable releases.) You can obtain newer
versions of this driver from nvidia's site.

If you can reproduce the issue with the -180 driver, feel free to reopen
this bug (or open a new one).

[Bug 345011] Re: Extra monitor bugs

2009-04-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

If you plug in an extra monitor (for presentation, or anything) that is a
different resolution, it will do weird things. It will do weird things with all
external monitors, but I'll explain that later.
So lets say you've got yourself a monitor with 1440x900 (like me) and you
plug in an old 1280x1024 monitor, the normal Configure display settings won't
recognise it, and the monitor will be black. If you start NVIDIA X server
settings, you'll get to change the settings of the second monitor (First bug:
You should be able to change these settings without Server settings).
I figured out that the second monitor only works properly if the Y is lower
or equal to 900, or it will give this error:
  Failed to set MetaMode (1) 'CRT-0: 1280x960 @1280x960 +0+0, DFP-0:
nvidia-auto-select @1440x900 +0+0' (Mode 1440x960, id: 51) on X screen 0.
Seems like a total logic error, but it happens to be that the same 2 monitors
where used on Windows without any errors, and with proper resolution and
settings!
  Second bug:
If (Second monitor Y =< First monitor Y)
  {
  Error
  }

Another small bug is that the background gets stretched, and gets very
ugly with these resolutions. The background should be scaled and should
be displayed twice; once for every monitor. (3rd bug)

I really like how Windows (Vista) manages second monitors, I hope that
managing monitors will be about the same as Windows (Vista).

2009-03-24 Thread Philip Muskovac
Sry, forgot to comment that. It means that I since you said that you use
the nvidia driver version 177 I assinged this bug report to the nvidia-
graphics-driver-177 package, with this the maintainers of the nvidia
driver package are notified. I also set it to confirmed because I think
that they might be able to further investigate the issue now that you
added more information about your problem. Judging from the information
you gave I can't help you any more so maybe they can.

[Bug 345011] Re: Extra monitor bugs

2009-03-24 Thread Jarige
So I booted without xorg.conf and it booted without proprietary drivers, and
basicly in low graphics mode. It made my fps 60 (as shown in Monitor Resolution
Settings) instead of 50, and named it 'laptop'
Ok, this is the xorg.0.log file after the boot without xorg.conf.

I hope you guys can fix this problem, or give me some tips :)

I will now install the proprietary drivers again.

[Bug 345011] Re: Extra monitor bugs

2009-03-24 Thread Jarige
BTW, there's an other thing. I installed Ubuntu on an external harddrive. Why?
So I can use it at school :)
But the videocard and stuff aren't recognised very well, and the nice compiz
effects are turned off because it goes to low graphics mode. However, my friend
has Ubuntu on his external harddrive and whenever he goes at some random
computer he can show off with his effects and stuff :P

It might have something to do with it :)

[Bug 345011] Re: Extra monitor bugs

2009-03-20 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file
(/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the
bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the
"Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any
/etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card?
Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt.
Furthermore the exact version of the nvidia driver you are using is
needed, you can find it in the 'X Server Information' Section of Nvidia
X Server Settings. And please also attach the following information:

1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the
resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

Thanks in advance.
