[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing ( Huawei E220 )
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 41 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41 I can confirm the same symptoms on a Dell Mini9 using the inbuilt 3G modem on Vodafone Australia. I am running the UNR release with the latest updates. Ethernet, Wifi and Bluetooth all work fine. If required i can upload any output you need to help debug. interestingly following the instructions above i cant kill modem- manager, it keeps spawning even with networking disabled. -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing ( Huawei E220 ) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing ( Huawei E220 )
Updated network-manager & modemmanager as in post #40. Now i can connect using my HP un2400 Mobile Broadband Module. There is only one problem i noticed: DNS nameservers received by NetworkManager is not added to resolv.conf. See attached debug logs. In the NetworkManager debug log there is messages showing DNS info is received by NetworkManager. Must i fill new bugreport on it? Still no luck with my mobile phone SonyErricson connected through USB cable. I think i must fill separate bug report on it, because symptoms are little different. ** Attachment added: "NetworkManager debug log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30527554/NetworkManager.log -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing ( Huawei E220 ) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Trying to self-educate I involved in the "investigation" of this bug, comparing the output of "NetworkManager --no-daemon" between a "working 9.04" and a "non working 9.10" connection. I am sure that the connection established in both cases (status led on modem) but with 9.10 "Stage 5 of 5 (IP Configure Commit)" did not started. Also with 9.10 a new line appeared after the ppp connection (Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyUSB0): NetworkManager:SCPlugin-Ifupdown: devices added (path: /sys/devices/virtual/net/ppp0, iface: ppp0) I am posting both output from the same hardware and provider (EeePC 1000H, Huawei E169, Wind GR): NM_904.txt and NM_910.txt Both Ubuntu versions are full installations and updated as per today. I do not know if next info will add something, but as a 'working example' this post done from the same 9.10 configuration running just the terminal command: sudo pppd ttyUSB0 460800 nodetach defaultroute noipdefault noauth lock usepeerdns connect 'chat "" "at" "" "at" "OK" "at&f" "OK" "atz" "OK" "at+cgdcont=1,'IP','gint.b-online.gr'" OK "atdt*99***1#" CONNECT' user web password web Note: ethernet disconnected and wireless disabled in all tests Regards, George ** Attachment added: "NM_904.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30373383/NM_904.txt -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing ( Huawei E220 ) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Attached is a proper log per Tony Espy. ** Attachment added: "modem-debug-proper.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30274421/modem-debug.txt -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
I talked to upstream and they noted that there are something like ~10 sub-models of Huawei E220 that all share the same USB ID. They said that you should be able to find the actual model number printed on the outside of the device. If you could check and report back, that'd be helpful. -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
I attach the results requested by Tony Espy. Notice that : 1/ The connexion is really established but the route aren't set. You can run following commands to use your mobile broadband connexion and check that this is working (ping is longer that with ADSL) : sudo route add default ppp0 sudo route del default gw 192.168.1.1 ping google.fr 2/ To get the log of modem-manager, you need to kill the previously running process launched at boot time. Otherwise you will get a dbus error. ** Attachment added: "modem-manager-debug.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30273125/modem-manager-debug.log -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
I had initially reported this bug using apport here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/410386 However, as the modemmanager package was not installed, I decided to mark my original bug invalid and have just followed up on this one. -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
One more tidbit to help us debug: Modems are handled by ModemManager now, which is more flexible and a better architecture for the future. To help us figure out what's going on now, please follow these steps: 1) Stop NetworkManager 2) run /usr/sbin/modem-manager --debug 3) Start NetworkManager 4) Plug in your modem And tell us what log output ModemManager spews out. -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
Can you please run: % apport-collect 412605 This will collect network-manager specific debug information and attach it the bug. In general, it's better to report bugs using ubuntu-bug , than to report directly via Launchpad. [Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
Are there any other logs or debug information that I can provide to get the ball rolling on this one? It's a bit of a showstopper as I need functional 3G connection for work. Yes, I am aware I can downgrade network-manager as a workaround, but this should be fixed for the karmic cycle. Also crashing / freezing the OS by unplugging the device (mentioned previously) would be a critical bug AFAIK. Thats interesting as I have seen another bug referring to this behaviour. [Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
kylea - if the behavior you are referring to is the OS freezing upon removal of the device, that was NOT happening prior to the .8 network- manager update on the 2.6.31-5 kernel. I've attached and detached the USB device many times previously on this and previous RC kernels without issue. I have not had any issues with this device with previous kernels 2.6.31-1 thru 2.6.31-4. It has worked as expected throughout the Karmic development cycle until this bug reported here. -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
tekstr1der - the behaviour you are seeing was present with the current kernel 2.6.31-5-generic, with the downgraded network packages. [Bug 410634] Re: Mobile Broadband connection not completing
I've got the exact same symptoms with Verizon UM150. This has been discussed on Ubuntu Karmic testing forums here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1234128 Also noticing a NASTY side effect from this bug. After attempting to connect with the network applet, I remove the device, the system freezes completely, sometimes with just a black screen and cursor. I must do a hard power reset to kill it and reboot. -- Mobile Broadband connection not completing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
