Dominik, you are referring to dselect but the English string uses deselected (note the extra e after the initial d). I don't think the English string is a reference to the dselect utility which is just a frontend to dpkg. Why should dpkg care how a package was selected? The only issue I have with this is vormals which sound a bit old. The deselect/dselect was just a thought, if this is not the case than I have no clue what deselect wants to tell the user in this case. I still think that the translation abgewählt is misleading and got the same response when speaking to other German speaking users of Ubuntu. It's telling the user exactly what it says. That the package previous was unselected, and is now being selected for installation. It's basically dpkg reporting on the toggling of /var/lib/dpkg/status states.
