[Bug 571294] Re: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore (it applies to Maverick as well)
The only solution to make microphone work is to install linux-backports- modules-alsa-generic... Just go to: Menu / System / Administration / Synaptic Package Manager And search and mark for installation: linux-backports-modules-alsa-generic tip: if you have multiple versions click on the first and read the description which should inform what name to install... If after the reboot and mic mute is off, still does not work, just go to terminal and type: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and add or change the following: options snd-hda-intel model=auto enable=yes Then Ctrl+X, type Y to write and exit, reboot and mic will work. Bye and have lots of fun with Ubuntu (the best). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571294 Title: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore (it applies to Maverick as well) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/571294/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 571294] Re: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore
Hi there, FYI I've just upgraded to Maverick and the issue is still there: the internal mic works, while there's not input when I connect an external microphone. I still have to add "options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba" to alsa- base.conf in order to get any input from an external mic, This way the mic autoswitching doesn't work, but this gives me a selection box under "gnome-volume-control > Input" which lets me choose either Line-in, Microphone 2 or Microphone 1. -- Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore (it applies to Maverick as well) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 571294] Re: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore
@Snake, have you tried dealing with alsamixer? In my case, opening alsamixer and hitting F4 shows me the recording controls, one of which lets me choose between input sources, using the up and down arrow keys. To open just type "alsamixer" into a console, without the quotes. Then navigate with arrow keys and F3, F4, F5. [Bug 571294] Re: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore
Hi, I have the same problem. My internal mic for recording is somehow disconnected, including in applications like skype. Using alsamixer and boosting the volume allows me to hear that the mic is working but that's all I can do with it. And this since the upgrade to 10.04. Before pulse, I was able to individually select my devices: choose the usb speakers to output the sound from one application, while listening to music on my headset using another application, and so on. Now I'm not sure my usb works independently (don't have it with me so I can't check). Alsamixer allowed before the choosing of the input devices. Now, as has been said before, it doesn't. I'm not sure If there are any files i should attach. If anybody knows, please let me know. Is there any manual or tutorial anywhere explaining the interactions between pulse, alsa and the devices, in such a way that it provides a practical view on how to indidually manipulate them, or at least who is controlling what? How can we check to what device are the computer volume controls connected? [Bug 571294] Re: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore
Hi, same problem here. I'm on a HP Pavillion tx1499us with snd-hda-intel (name nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)) (Chip Realtek ALC861-VD according to alsamixer) - Release: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - pulseaudio: 1:0.9.22~0.9.21+stable-queue-32-g8478-0ubuntu14 - alsa-base: 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3 In my case, gnome-volume-control offers only one choice for "sound input": "Interanl Audio Analog Stereo" But the internal mic is not working, only external mic works connected to jack. In my case I've found a different workaround than fab, I just opened alsamixer in a console, went to the Capture tab with F4, and there it was the "Input Source" selector, letting me choose between "Front Mic" (which corresponds to external jack) and "ATAPI Mic" (which enables built-in mic) After choosing "ATAPI Mic" in alsamixer, no change is seen in gnome- volume-control , but internal mic works as expected. So in my case, the snd-hda-intel driver seems to behave correctly, but seems like gnome-volume-control is "oversimplified" and doesn't show all the available switches (while they do appear in alsamixer) Cheers! -- Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 571294] Re: Lucid Linx: built in microphone doesn't work anymore
Hi Daniel, It seems that I've found a temporary workaround to this bug. I've tried all the possible options for snd-hda-intel in /etc/modprobe.d /alsa-base.conf and in the end I had some success with "options snd-hda- intel model=toshiba" (even if the laptop brand is HP). In this case the mic autoswitching doesn't work (i.e. the sound input must be selected manually), but I now have a selection box under "gnome- volume-control > Input" which lets me choose either Line-in, Microphone 2 or Microphone 1.
