[Bug 683133] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work on Toshiba Satellite M series laptops

2012-12-28 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Tags removed: kernel-series-unknown natty needs-kernel-logs running-
unity staging

** Tags added: maverick

** Description changed:

Disabling ACPI causes the keyboard backlight to work perfectly. However, this
has the unfortunate side effect of disabling monitor brightness control and
suspend ability (and likely other things). Is there a way we can just disable
ACPI for the keyboard alone?

I fail to see how this is how priority bug it has to affect a lot of
machines and with the future in pads and tablets I would think this
warrants resolution

I think most of us have just learned to live with it, hence the lack of
complaining. But it's still annoying when I try to code in the dark. Why
don't we just get it fixed?

Last week I made a major update last week and the lights started to work
out of the blue, but then I made a minor update a couple of days ago and
they stopped working again. I don't know what exactly were the updates
about (I just say yes to the update manager), so I don't know if this
would be of any help.

I just tried the daily (26 April 2011) version of Ubuntu 11.04. The keyboard
backlight problem has not been solved for my Toshiba
A665D-S6059. With acpi=ON the lights do not work, with acpi=OFF the lights do.
This has been a problem for me since 10.10.

Can someone test a live session of the newest build of Natty downloading from:

[Bug 683133] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work on Toshiba Satellite M series laptops

2011-01-28 Thread Matt White
Jeremy,

It is indeed still an issue. Unfortunately I can't check with the latest
dev version of Ubuntu as this is a work machine. Sorry!

** Description changed:

Disabling ACPI causes the backlight to work perfectly. However, this has the
unfortunate side effect of disabling monitor brightness control and suspend
ability (and likely other things). Is there a way we can just disable ACPI for
the keyboard alone?

[Bug 683133] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work on Toshiba Satellite M series laptops

2011-01-13 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Matt,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach
updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 683133

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
