Sorry Tormod, I can't supply either of these files, as I've made some major changes to my system since, which has stopped this particular problem occurring, so I haven't got copies of those when it was happening. For the record, I had been using my own kernel, with the Nvidia driver installed manually and I've changed to using the stock Ubuntu kernel. I believe the problem (in my case at least) was due to conflicts between various files that were left behind by several updates of the Nvidia driver. My xorg.conf is currently completely out of whack due to some complications with adding a new monitor, so I'm currently running without an xorg.conf until I can figure out the problem. I have an ATI FireGL video card, not nvidia, so the summary change was wrong for me. I suspect this problem may be with X rather than xscreensaver. I have just had an almost identical crash when I started Google Earth.
