2009-12-15 Thread Attila Hammer
Fresh test result with Lucid:
The actual Kernel version is 2.32.8, the prewious wroted problem (lossed
the enable vireless connection with network-manager panel icon) is
present both Karmic and Lucid if I using 2.32.x kernel versions.

2009-12-14 Thread ^_Pepe_^
Attila,

Thanks for your apport.

I'm not sure about your issue. Is Wifi always on after restart/resume or
hotkeys not working?

If first case, please, take a look to this bug #324236, and come back
with your comments.

I'd like you to test with 2.6.32 kernel (karmic). Please, found it here
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32/

Thanks a lot for your help!

Regards

Re: [Bug 332795] Re: [Jaunty] Hardware switch does'nt work my Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 notebook.

2009-12-14 Thread Attila Hammer
I tested the your suggested kernel version, because possible urgent, and
not would like rest you.
The change is following:
Lossed the network-manager wireless enable/disable setting.
If I right click the network manager panel icon, I see only auto eth0
menu item, connection information menu item, and edit connections menu item.
ifconfig wlan0 shows the hardware information, independent the hardware
switch toggle.

I tryed following tests:
1. Launched the machine with turned on hardware switch, not help,
impossible choose enable/disable the wan controller with Networkmanager.
2. I launch my machine with turned off wlan controller switch, and after
the boot is completed, turned on the hardware switch. Nothing changed,
impossible enable/disable the hardware switch.

The ideal method is following, with possible this is not work my machine:
When the switch is turned on, need automatical loading the need wireless
card module (I think rtl8187 but I am not sure what the correct module
name my card with this kernel version).
If the switch is turned off, need remove the module (for example rtl8187).
For example, my Jaunty system I always remove manual the rtl8187 module
if I switched off the hardware switch with sudo rmmod rtl8187 command.
But if I turn on the switch, need manual loading again the rtl8187
module with sudo modprobe rtl8187 command.

Re: [Bug 332795] Re: [Jaunty] Hardware switch does'nt work my Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 notebook.

2009-12-14 Thread Attila Hammer
The problem is following:
Wify is always on, independent the hardware switch toggle state (on/off).
For example, if I switch hardware switch is off, the Network-manager
shows wireless networking is enabled, and if my machine founds wlan
hotspots, I connecting not problem. :-):-)

I looking 2.6.32 kernel tomorrow.

2009-12-13 Thread Attila Hammer
Thank you the information.
Tomorrow I look the actual cd.
If the issue is present, I ran apport-collect -p linux 332795 command.
Your linked url, I see only live dvd's. This dvd's contains upgrades,
or this is an official Karmic live dvd only but not containing upgrades?
If the dvd not containing upgrades, I enough to downloading Karmic live
cd only with following website?
http://releases.ubuntu.com/karmic/ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso

This is smallest download size.

[Bug 332795] Re: [Jaunty] Hardware switch does'nt work my Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 notebook.

2009-12-12 Thread ^_Pepe_^
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest Karmic 9.10 release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If the issue remains, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal) while running Karmic. It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this
report.

apport-collect -p linux 332795

[Bug 332795] Re: [Jaunty] Hardware switch does'nt work my Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 notebook.

2009-04-23 Thread Hadmut Danisch
I have the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite notebook.

The surprising fact: If I remember correctly, with older releases of
ubuntu the USB WLAN device dis- and reappeared on the lsusb list when
switching on and off even if there was no driver and the device was
completely unsupported. I always believed that the switch at the
notebook's front was a hardware switch taking the device away from the
USB.

Should be fixed. With hardy and intrepid I used a self compiled driver
which dealed with the switch correctly, so it should not be a big deal
to get a fix for that problem.

hardware switch my notebook? When I unload the rtl8187 module, the module
removed correct and the enable vireless menu item in the nm-aplet icon is
hidden correct. :-)
Now, if the hardware switch is on or off, I using the wlan connections correct.
This is a kernel bug? What the right package?
