There are lots of comments on bug 178442. This one below helped me with
my MAudio Audiophile 24/96. Maybe it also can help someone else?

[Bug 723820] Re: No sound from M-Audio Delta 1010LT (ICE1712 chipset) from fresh install Ubuntu (probably Ubuntustudio to)

2011-03-31 Thread jeppe sorensen
I have a similar problem with maudio Audiophile 24/96. It also uses ICE1712
Sound worked fine in Ubuntu Studio 9, upgraded to 10.10, and no sound.

envy24control works ok, unmuted everything and set all sliders, but no sound.
pavucontrol, Configuration tab, lets med select a lot of "Digital Stereo ... "
profiles.
pavucontrol shows audio software (e.g. xmms2) and shows output, but no sound

[Bug 723820] Re: No sound from M-Audio Delta 1010LT (ICE1712 chipset) from fresh install Ubuntu (probably Ubuntustudio to)

2011-02-24 Thread Mikael Thurberg
Ive found one intreseting thing when running the command:

lspci -v | less

it outputted:

02:0c.0 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. ICE1712 [Envy24] PCI
Multi-Channel I/O Controller (rev 02)
Subsystem: VIA Technologies Inc. M-Audio Delta 1010LT
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 17
I/O ports at df80 [size=32]
I/O ports at dfa0 [size=16]
I/O ports at df60 [size=16]
I/O ports at df00 [size=64]
Capabilities:
Kernel driver in use: oss_envy24

The intreesting thing was latency wich is low for (at least my slow system). By
increasing it, it would be less audio glictes / xruns /buffer underruns / audio
chopping.

A very fast computer can handle that, Not older ones. If youre not gonna use it
for audio production, You have no actual use for a lower latency time. By
increasing it more computers will support / work from the start..
Only music production computers will have use of lower latency and when you use
the computer that way.

Change the latency for future versions of Ubuntu?

[Bug 723820] Re: No sound from M-Audio Delta 1010LT (ICE1712 chipset) from fresh install Ubuntu (probably Ubuntustudio to)

2011-02-24 Thread Mikael Thurberg
I run in the console:

envy24control

then it returns:

No ICE1712 cards found

(note: this is after i have installed the oss driver package from the program
central, after that it changed in the gnome-volume-control that i have no cards
installed and there is one "dummy output" only.

Update: After installing the OSS driver package from the site
http://www.opensound.com/, the sound in youtube (heh, I use that as an test)
works, BUT with audio glitches / buffer underruns (windows talk) / xruns
(ubuntu talk)

It is not working as it should be with those buffer underruns. The sound
is unlisenable when the audio chops all the time.

Possibly it could be changed if you tweak the parameters and increase
the audio buffers maybee?

Found in questions site this that seems to be related:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+question/85254

Ive read people saying that when the volume is 0%, they should increase
that to 77%, that is wrong what i think.

All volumes should be set to 100%, both all input controls and output
controls.

That way you get maximum dynamic capabilities of your soundcard, lower
the volume on your analog amplifier instead. The error is not there. It
should be 100%. Believe me as I have worked with an 48-channel live
sound P.A. digital mixing desk :)

Only case to use 77% if is that equals to 0dB (=maximum output) and the
additional is for changing output sensitivity if you use between
professional analog equipment and semi-professional/ home user equipment
(im not talking about the digital mode output aka profesional / normal,
thats another thing.)

Anyway, it doesnt work with ALSA from the beginning or with OSS after
first installed it..

Does OSS replace ALSA drivers when installing OSS drivers btw?

Fell free to ask if there is something..

/Micke

2011-02-24 Thread Mikael Thurberg
If this could be for any help:

DAC is from the computer/soundcard to output on the soundcard. (to the stereo
etc)
ADC is from the input on the soundcard to the computer. (used for recording,
microphones etc).

DAC = Digital TO analog converter
ADC = Analog TO digital converter

Analog = everything outside the computer
Digital = whats happends on the soundcard / computer

I can also give you values the level controls should be on from the beginning
if that could be to any help and also how to pan / what should be muted and
what not (basically nothing should be muted from the start).

2011-02-24 Thread Mikael Thurberg
No, why did you change the status? I didnt get that? Should i write the
same i

gnome-volume-control shows active programs using sound, it shows my
soundcard but there is no sound.

I have no errors connecting everything as I am a soundtechnican so it
cant be that, works in windows.. :(

If it helps, I think in windows the M-audio series soundcard from the delta
family all uses the same driver for sound in windows with the same
controlpanel, the only difference is the number of channels between the cards
but the same digital/analog converters almost as I have understand (except the
new audiophile 192 card that may have other da converters but i think it uses
the same ice1712 chipset, but not 100% sure about that.)

I think the driver for all this lineup of m-audio delta cards is using
the same driver in linux if i dont get it wrong?

The problem seems to have it configured by the start for different cards
only?

But the configuration should be so much different amongst the cards, the
frist 2 channels are the same on all, then it only adds up with more
additional channels you have to assign accordingly? as DAC0, DAC1, DAC2,
DAC3 etc...

It just shows everything there, but with no sound output (from the
soundcard external connectors) to my amplifier..

Hello Mikael, you should take a moment and ask in this pages:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu
http://askubuntu.com/

Try using utilities like padevchooser and/or gnome-volume-control.

I'll change the bug status to Opinion while you get answers in above
pages (:

Please keep us informed.

Ive saw that my user doesnt have privelegies to use the sound card in:

system -> administration -> user and groups -> advanced settings -> user
privelegies -> the user have right to use sound devices

Should it be so or is this related to the what have been written in
ubuntustudio release notes that the users should not be put in the audio group?

Note: I have no onboard audio chipset to eighter enable or disable. Only
this soundcard.

As I have discovered: A lot of users have this problem when searching for it,
but not asmuch have reported it to launchpad.
