With the upgrade to Feisty this issue has been fixed. Fonts display
properly now. This bug can be closed.

No luck. I did just like that, and it still doesn't work. Is this bug
solved in Feisty? Could I fix it by upgrading some packages (say, locales)
to Feisty?

2007-03-22 Thread Philip Langdale
Edgy has a bug where the locales that are installed are not accessible
to 32bit applications (like vmplayer in this case).

You might be able to work around it by symlinking /usr/lib64/locale to
/usr/lib32/locale

The output from strace didn't get uploaded automatically when attached
to my previous mail. I'm uploading it now with the Launchpad account
that I use at work.

Indeed, it doesn't make any difference. Display is same as
always.

Yes, I have language-pack-en installed (version 6.10+20070115), and
also
(just in case it matters) language-pack-es (same version).

Done. I'm attaching it to this mail; hope it gets automatically
uploaded.
If not, I'll upload it myself to the bug's page in launchpad. For further
information, I executed this with sudo, like:

sudo strace vmplayer 2>&1 | gzip -c > trace-vmplayer.gz

I suppose it's the same, but I'm noting it just in case.

2007-03-21 Thread VMware Build Team
Thanks Roberto. Can you try running:

LC_ALL=C vmplayer

(I doubt this will make any difference, it appears to be falling back to
C anyway.)

Do you have the package language-pack-en installed? If not, can you try
installing it then running vmplayer again?

If that still doesn't work, please run this:

strace vmplayer 2>&1 | gzip > trace.gz

and upload the trace.gz.  Thanks!

Yes, of course. Here's it:

/usr/lib/vmware-player/bin/vmplayer:
/usr/lib/vmware-player/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0:
no version information available (required by /usr/lib32/libcairo.so.2)

(vmplayer:17366): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.

Regarding to locales, here's the output of "locale" in my
account:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ locale
LANG=es_ES.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=es_ES.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="es_ES.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

I've set LANG, LANGUAGE and LC_ALL to "es_ES", "es_ES.ISO-8859-1"
and "en_US.UTF-8", all of them available in my system (or
so "dpkg-reconfigure locales" says), and I got the same result. An
example:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ export LANGUAGE=es_ES.ISO-8859-1
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ export LANG=es_ES.ISO-8859-1
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ export LC_ALL=es_ES.ISO-8859-1
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo vmplayer
/usr/lib/vmware-player/bin/vmplayer:
/usr/lib/vmware-player/lib/libpng12.so.0/libpng12.so.0:
no version information available (required by /usr/lib32/libcairo.so.2)

(vmplayer:18024): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.

Any other idea I can try? Any other info that I can provide?

What locale are you using? Can you launch it from the command line and
see if it outputs some errors?
