[Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)

2011-06-06 Thread Martin Pool
tjaalton and bryceh suggested bisecting using the packages built from
mainline rather than building from scratch.

Using

v2.6.39-rc1-natty when the external monitor is plugged in will _only_
use the external monitor; the monitors control panel apparently cannot
even detect the internal monitor. If I unplug the displayport cable the
internal screen is stuck black.

v2.6.39-rc4-natty seems to work correctly.

rc2 apparently failed to build.

If you're on Natty or Oneiric would you be able to try a build from the

[Bug 501030] Re: [upstream] "Object 1, 2, 3, ..." instead of my formulas

2011-06-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Dem0n3D, you may have fallen into one of following issues regarding Math
formulas:

+ As per upstream discussion their is a known issue with Math objects being
corrupted upon saving.
+ The multi-language issue discussed here:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/FAQ/Formula/I_have_written_a_document_containing_a_formula._I_gave_it_to_a_friend_and_when_she_opened_it_the_user-defined_symbols_didn%27t_work._What%27s_the_matter%3F

The attachments are a result of the problem but do not help tremendously
in narrowing down how to reproduce this. Is their a simple test case you
can provide where one creates a formula, save the file, and upon
reopening demonstrates this problem? Can you reproduce the problem in
LibreOffice Writer?

[Bug 690092] Re: pcscd is not executed during startup

2011-06-06 Thread Amiad Salton
Hi Ludovic,

Following your advise, I completely removed pcscd and libccid from Synaptec
Package Manager and then I reinstalled it from the link you sent me. The
installation results are attached.
Unfotunately, it doesn't solve the proble: I still can't acces my smart card.
If I look at /etc/udev/rules.d folder I still can't find CCID rules file. The
contents of this folder is:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 458 2011-05-18 10:26 50-pcscd-asedriveiiie.rules
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 908 2010-10-16 09:46 70-persistent-cd.rules
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 225 2010-10-07 17:58 70-persistent-net.rules
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 813 2010-10-17 08:05 99-vmware-scsi-udev.rules
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1157 2010-09-24 14:25 README

So, both manual and automatic installation of pcscd and libccid don't
work on my Ubuntu. How should I proceed? What else can I do in order to
work with my smart card device? Can I manually copy CCID rules file to
/etc/udev/rules.d ?

Thank you very much,
Amiad

[Bug 763412] Re: mceusb devices stopped working in natty

2011-06-06 Thread Tore Anderson
I was running the latest version of LIRC, yes. lirc-modules-source was
not installed.

In any case, I found a solution. In /etc/lirc/hardware.conf, change
LOAD_MODULES to "false" and reboot. This casued the remote to start
working again.

However, now every button press for up/down/left/right generated two
events in XBMC. The soulution to that was to prevent the ir_rc6_decoder
kernel module from being loaded. Seems there's some conflict between
some new functionality built in to the kernel.

[Bug 516069] Re: [Upstream] Elbow connector adjustment lost when pasting drawing from Draw to Writer

2011-06-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: openoffice.org

- In a drawing that contains elbow connectors where the middle segment of
- the connector has been adjusted to route around other shapes, the
- adjustment is not preserved when the drawing is copied and pasted from
- Draw to Writer.
+ 1) lsb_release -rd
+ Description: Ubuntu 11.04
+ Release: 11.04

- Steps to reproduce:
- 1. Open the attached drawing.odg file [1]; this drawing contains three boxes
named "Big Box", "Small Box 1" and "Small Box 2" as well as an elbow connector
(in red) that connects "Small Box 1" to "Small Box 2" but has been adjusted to
not intersect "Big Box"
- 2. Select the whole drawing: Edit -> Select All or CTRL+A
- 3. Go to File -> New -> Text Document: a new window with a new document opens
- 4. Paste the content of the clipboard in the text document: Edit -> Paste or
CTRL+V
+ 2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-draw
+ libreoffice-draw:
+ Installed: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5
+ Candidate: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5

+ 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0
+ 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages

- Expected behaviour
- The drawing as pasted in Writer should be identical to the drawing in Draw,
in particular the red elbow connector should not intersect the "Big Box"
rectangle.
+ apt-cache policy libreoffice-writer
+ libreoffice-writer:

+ 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0
+ 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages

- Actual behaviour
- The elbow connector in the diagram pasted into Writer has not preserved the
adjustment and intersects the "Big Box" rectangle (see attached screenshot [2]
for side by side comparison).
+ 3) What is expected to happen with LibreOffice Draw via the Terminal:

- Resources:
- [1] Original ODG document: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/3864/drawing.odg
- [2] Side by side screenshot:

+ && lodraw -nologo drawing.odg
+
+ open a blank Writer file, copy the picture in the Draw file into Writer
+ and it looks as it does in Draw.
+
+ 4) What happens instead is the elbow connectors where the middle segment
+ of the connector has been adjusted to route around other shape is not
+ preserved ( http://launchpadlibrarian.net/3879/oo-elbow-connector-
+ paste-screenshot.png ).

[Bug 480671]

2011-06-06 Thread Mozilla-e
I'd like to suggest a fix for this bug.

This bug appeared with the fix of bug 447788 somewhere around version
3.5.

In bug 447788 the problem seems to be that when you register on a
mediawiki Wiki site, you can register using a lowercase user name,
"john" but the site then pre-fills the user name using an initial
capital, "John". The complain, if not mistaken, was that the password,
even though it was saved, was not auto-filled. The reason was that
Firefox did not match username "John" with the saved username "john".

The fix was to make the whole password manager case insensitive. Justin
Dolke noted: "The main problem I was worried about was if doing this
could cause interactions resulting in saving duplicate logins for
"myname" and "Myname". But I don't think that's the case (and may even
help avoid it)." But since then there have been numerous complaints
about Firefox forbidding logins with different cases.

So I'd like to suggest the following behavior for the case-sensitivity problem:

User name auto-fill
- FF has a method that identifies a password field and the associated username
field.
- If the username is blank and FF has a single username/password saved for that
web page, then the username and password should be auto-filled from the saved
username. That should happen when the page loads.
- In no circumstance should FF change the username that was pre-filled by the
web site or entered by the user.

Password autofill
- If the username gets autofilled when the page loads, the password should be
auto-filled at the same time.
- If the username was pre-filled by the web site, and the username matches a
saved username/password, then the password should be auto-filled when the page
loads.
- When leaving the username field, if the username field was changed and the
username matches a saved username/password, then the password should be
auto-filled with the saved password.
- Which username "matches" a saved username/password is described below.

Saved usernames/passwords
- A flag "case-insensitive" tells that a saved username/password entry also
applies to all alternate cases for the username.
- A username that is marked case-insensitive cannot appear with a different
case among saved usernames/passwords.

Matching usernames with saved usernames
- A saved username matches the exact same username or, if the flag is set, any
username that is equal ignoring case.

Saving the password
- When a user submits a form:

  - If the web page is flagged never to save passwords, do nothing

  - If the username matches a saved username/password and the password
matches, do nothing.

  - If there is no matching username saved for that web site, ask the usual
question:
"Remember password for user "xxx" on yyy?" with options "never", "not
now" and "remember".
Remember stores the username/password. If another username exists,
identical but with another case, then save it as case-insensitive, else save it
as case-sensitive.

  - If there is a matching username/password and the username uses the same
case as saved, but the password is different, ask the usual question:
"Update saved password for user "xxx" on yyy?" with options "not now" and
"update".
Update replaces the password in the saved username/password entry.

  - If there is a matching username/password and the username uses a different
case and a different password than saved ask:
"Replace saved username and password for user "xxx" on yyy?" with options
"not now", "replace" and "remember both (case insensitive)".
Replace replaces the username and password in the saved username/password
entry.
Remember both (case insensitive) creates a new entry and marks both
entries as case-sensitive.
Note: here, "xxx" is the saved username.

Password manager.
- The case-sensitive flag should be visible in the password manager. It should
be possible to set it (make it case-insensitive) but only after deleting
duplicates.
- There is no other way to revert to "case-insensitive", as it involves
removing saved username/password entries.

Summary
The saving of passwords remains case-insensitive as long as no conflict occurs.
If the user uses different accounts with different cases, but still with the
same password, then saving a single password with a case-insensitive username
is still appropriate. Only when trying to set a different password for a
different username case will FF ask how to treat case-sensitivity.

One thing that is still missing is the possibility to change the case of
a username that was saved wrongly. The problem being that it will auto-
fill with the wrong case. For that, the last case ("replace?") should
also be triggered when the user submits a form, and the username was
auto-filled from the saved usernames, but the user changed the case
manually. I don't know if that logic can be implemented in a simple
way.

Best regards,
Florian Fischer

Amazing that this bug has been pushed around for 12 years.

This will be a nice feature for finally specifying styling for a COLUMN
of cells instead of each individual cell in a column, which is
ironically is NOT the operation we're going for.

So I'm happy to see this being looked at.

2011-06-06 Thread Wproxym
Basicly, it should not, because it's standard system level hotkeys.
But there are different OSes with different hotkeyes, e.g.Ctrl-Alt-BS ...
The best solution is to allow user to select allowed (or denied) hotkeys
manually, but maybe it's hard to implement.
Browser must respond to basic browser level hotkeys (ctrl+t, ctrl+n, ctrl+w,
ctrl+l).
(Btw maybe it's good to map ctrl+e to restore last closed tab.)
And browser (not flash) in ideal must respond to common system level hotkeys
normally.

[Bug 793392] [NEW] /etc/network/interfaces kills network-manager gui and network access pre-login

2011-06-06 Thread Exar
Public bug reported:

I think this problem started when I tired to edit
/etc/network/interfaces. Even though I didn't end up changing anything,
I did open it and save changes. The result was that no network
connection would load until I physically logged into my computer. i.e.
ssh from a remote location would not work because no network connection
would start. After logging in physically at the computer however,
network-manager would take over and ssh from remote client would be
possible.

As a workaround, I assigned a static ip address in
/etc/network/interfaces and specified the dns in /etc/resolv.conf, which
would then load at startup and I could ssh without the computer being
logged in already. However, after logging in, the NetworkManager gui
would not allow access to the eth0 connection (this kind of makes
sense). But, if I connect to a wireless network with wl0, then
NetworkManager overwrites reslov.conf and kills my eth0 connection.

[Bug 526327] Re: [ooo-build] Crash when "CapsLock toggles Shift" and cAPS lOCK-autocorrect is on

2011-06-06 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
saftaplan, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping
to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please
follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your
crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

- Something has gone wrong" screen (which is *not* the bug I'm reporting
- right now), logged back in with an "Ubuntu Classic (no effects)"

- other details to report, except that the crash described in bug 788710
- occurred both before and immediately alongside (perhaps just after) the
- crash described here. I have no reason to think they're related; they
- could very well be totally separate bugs, but I figured it would be

[Bug 793394] [NEW] iinet users default to "Server for Australia".

2011-06-06 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

I understand that the Server for Australia is outside the iinet
freezone, so there is little benefit to iinet users in picking this
mirror over an international mirror. It would be much better to pick the
iinet mirror http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/

[Bug 793397] [NEW] carl9170 module causes my router to drop wireless connections or reboot

2011-06-06 Thread Karl Trees
Public bug reported:

Using carl9170 causes my causes my router to turn off the wireless AP
(wired connection unaffected) when trying to torrent, sit around for a
minute or two, then it will come back up or (usually) the entire router
will reboot(!!), works fine when using 10.10 on same pc. Presence or
lack of network traffic from other pcs makes no difference.

* debian/filters/pstopdf: Let pstopdf determine the page size via
the "PageSize" or "PageRegion" setting in the 5th command line

inserted by CUPS and uses a PWG name of the paper size and not the
name used in the PPD file. This makes Ghostscript being called
without paper size setting and so a PDF file in the default paper
size (A4/Letter) is passed on, breaking any printout from applications
which send jobs in PostScript and which have a non-default paper

[Bug 778490] Re: Random logout after upgrading to Natty Narwhal 11.04

2011-06-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
Fernando, good work! That shows a nearly perfect backtrace, but we're
missing symbols for the first two calls (which is probably where the
crash is):

#0 0x0057ffb4 in pixman_region_equal () from /usr/lib/libpixman-1.so.0
No symbol table info available.
#1 0x0018e798 in ?? () from /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/openchrome_drv.so
No symbol table info available.

Can you install the dbgsym packages for pixman and the openchrome driver
and do it once more?

Also, I should also mention your backtrace is completely different than
what's shown in other people's Xorg.0.log.old so is probably some other
unrelated X crash. (Like I mention, every type of X crash results in
the same thing - dropping you back to the login screen).

Your syslog also shows that the kernel is very sick (but not in the
graphics drm stack). Hard to tell if those errors relate to the crash
you're seeing, but if I had to guess, it looks like something deeper is
wrong in your system and X crashing is just a side effect.

[Bug 274575] Re: Image rendered with border in Firefox When Scaling

2011-06-06 Thread Laura Cowen
I haven't seen this problem in a while. I'm on Maverick now.
Specifically, if I try increasing/decreasing zoom of Google home page, I
don't see the original problem I reported.

[Bug 274575] Re: Image rendered with border in Firefox When Scaling

2011-06-06 Thread Laura Cowen
Sorry, that was on Chrome, where I don't see the problem at all.

On Firefox, I see a grey vertical line down the right-side of the
Google.co.uk homepage image when the zoom is -1 (disappears at lower and
higher zooms).

I'm on Maverick with latest updates applied.

[Bug 793366] Re: Sets $LANG to invalid value "de"

2011-06-06 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
As soon as I noticed that lightdm will be the default dm in Oneiric, I
realized that there is a need to patch lightdm similarly to how we patch
gdm. It seems that lightdm uses the original (simplistic) gdm method to
set the i18n environment.

gdm takes the $LANG value from ~/.profile or /etc/default/locale. (The
$LC_MESSAGES value is derived from a language name, though, either in
Xsession - the language_environment_update() function - or language-
selector.)

As regards language/keyboard choosers, those features seem to be available.
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/LightDM/Design
I take it that there is a need to make a design decision on whether the
language/keyboard choosers shall be enabled in Ubuntu by default. Personally
I'd prefer that they are.

Btw, when I messed with gdm patches I noticed that the keyboard layout
chooser seems to have been dropped in gdm 3.
