This bug does not affect version 12.04. As far as I am concerned, this
is fixed.

[Bug 77980] Re: mtop failed to install (wrong/no password)

2012-06-11 Thread monochromec
Hi Charles,

Please note that this platform is for the discussion and resolution of
technical issues regarding this Linux distribution ONLY so please
refrain from flaming if at all possible.

There seems to be a lot of frustration on your side regarding an
installation of Ubuntu on a computer which I fully appreciate in
difficult technical circumstances. Excellent support places where to
look for your issues are ubuntuforums.org, and help.ubuntu.com (the
official docs site from Canonical) to name but a few.
www.ubuntu.com/support/community also is a good starting point for
technical support from the community. And last but not least google -
given the right query terms - often yields surprisingly concise pointers
to information for issue resolution as well.

Hope that helps!

   Regards, Chris

[Bug 1001413] Re: avidemux does not honor file size splitting (avi format)

2012-06-11 Thread Markus Michels
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise

** Description changed:

  Trying to convert content of a DVD with multiple .vob files. Open first
  one, asked index: yes, include multiple files: yes...

  Total file size around 5.2 GB

  Selecting avi settings for splitting: 7000 (MB)
  Audio Codec copy, video codec copy...

  When saving, the file gets split into 800MB something chunks...

  Interesting enough, when choosing 1000 MB for splitting it honors the
  value, when choosing 6000 MB chunks of 2GB are created, when choosing
  9000MB chunks of 800MB something are created (weird).

  Sure some parameters in the program got wrong.

  Thanks and regards,

  Markus

[Bug 1011307] Re: dig(1) says that dig queries servers listed in resolv.conf, but this is not always the case

2012-06-11 Thread Thomas Hood
Yes, I also have no objection to the behavior. I think the man page
could be tweaked to be a little. Something like the following.

- If no server argument is provided, dig consults /etc/resolv.conf and
queries the name servers listed there.

+ If no server argument is provided, dig consults /etc/resolv.conf and
if an IPv4 or IPv6 address is found there (depending upon which
transport has been selected), queries the name server at that address.

[Bug 1001432] Re: apport doesn't deliver aiccu.log but sensitive information with bug reports

2012-06-11 Thread Lars Düsing
{preparation for SRU}
[Impact]
- High impact
 * Sensitive Information is transmitted to public launchpad (Username,
PASSWORD!)
- Medium to Low impact
 * Finding configuration errors is harder without aiccu.log

[Test Case]
 apport-bug --save /tmp/apport-aiccu.report aiccu
  - verify that your information is in the report-> after patch there should be
##MASKED## instead of them.
  - verify the presence of "var.log.aiccu.log" -> after patch there should be
this key with the relevant information

[Regression Potential]
 - relatively low
 * it could happen that there are no apport-reports at all. (If my apport-hook
is such horrible failing...)
 * there should be no regression potential at all for the service aiccu at all
- there is no change in any part called by this programme.

[Bug 597995] Re: Realtek RTL8111/8168B NIC not working - regression from 9.10

2012-06-11 Thread Eneko Lacunza
It has been a while that I haven't noticed problems with the NIC. I do
not resume/suspend, and don't have a way to reproduce the problem to
check newer kernels.

I think it would be better to check whether apavlov or beric continue to
have suspend/resume problems.

[Bug 1011456] [NEW] evince does not show pstricks graphic (pscustom)

2012-06-11 Thread Kin Mye
Public bug reported:

This is a bug I found 2 or 3 years ago but I though that was pstricks related.
However, it seems is a bug of evince.
I can confirm it in:
DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=oneiric
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 11.10"

and also in
PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux wheezy/sid"
NAME="Debian GNU/Linux"

I created a latex figure using pstricks to shadow the area under x^2.
I used latex + dvips + ps2pdf14 to create the pdf file.
Evince does not show the figure properly.

evince myfile.pdf => WRONG

However,
printing the file, from evince: CORRECT
evince myfile.ps => CORRECT
acroread myfile.pdf => CORRECT

I attach the .pdf file that includes:
a) the problematic figure: this changes depending the viewer you use.
b) screenshots of the same figure with both acroread (left) and evince (right)

And this is the .tex file.
~~
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{pstricks-add}

\begin{document}
\begin{pspicture}(-1,-1)(3,6)
\pscustom[algebraic,linestyle=none,fillstyle=hlines,
  hatchsep=4pt,hatchcolor=blue]{%
 \psplot{0}{1.5}{x^2}
 \psline(1.5,0)(0,0)
}
\psaxes{->}(3,4)
\psplot[algebraic]{0}{2}{x^2}
\end{pspicture}
\end{document}
~~

Thank you!

[Bug 131094] Re: Heavy Disk I/O harms desktop responsiveness

2012-06-11 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Well, yes, many-many years ago on much more powerless machines, I could
play MP3 and we had some kind of compo with friends to be able to
interrupt the music by doing I/O. It was quite hard. Then as far as I
can tell the situation became more and more worse, which is especially
odd that I started to use more and more powerfull machines meanwhile.
Now, I can say that almost anything I do which generates some I/O stops
the whole desktop, gnome-terminal windows are white (not updated) for
long seconds (sometimes even a minute!) sometimes even the mouse can't
be moved. And no, it can't be a hw problem as I noticed it on many
different machines with totally different hardware (SCSI, "normal"
ide/pata, sata  both of 32 and 64 bit kernels/systems, AMD/intel
CPU, etc) and very different kernels and even distributions (well,
ubuntu and debian to be precise) during the years. However that's true
that the worst came in the last 1-2 years, as far as I can remember,
though I could notice getting things worse even before that.

[Bug 1011470] [NEW] isc-dhcp-server upstart job incomplete

2012-06-11 Thread molostoff
Public bug reported:

As with upgrade from oneiric to precise I have discovered that there is
new upstart job for isc-dhcp-server which is a minimal "carbon copy" of
sysv init.d script, and missing major system deps from other services.

Testing it shows that upstart job for isc-dhcp-server indeed is
incomplete, for example any lxc container starts before isc-dhcp-server,
and fails to complete startup because can not get assigned address (I
mean config with lxc-net disabled and br0 configured).

Being configured to read configuration via ldap service (isc-dhcp-
server-ldap) it starts before slapd and exits without awaiting to start
slapd. With a bunch of dependencies between nscd, nslcd, slapd, named,
autofs-ldap, lxc - isc-dhcp-server upstart script looks like incomplete
and incorrect, since does not reflect its dependency on any valuable
system event or condition, to which real dependants refer.

Since writing an upstart job script needs careful and complex testing on
compatibility with other system services, its better to
 revert this upstart job to sysv script back, atleast for testing and/or
establishing its dependencies.

I have tried to figure out this upstart dependency on my configuration
but was unsuccessful, because isc-dhcp-server upstart job needs that
dependency expressed in upstart jobs from other services, whose init
scripts are still sysv, and depends on sysv services. So a correct
rewrite indeed means rewrite all the services starting into upstart, not
only isc-dhcp-server.

So, please, revert isc-dhcp-server back to sysv, or provide correct
startup code.

[Bug 980180] Re: Apache RA doesn't create /var/run/apache2 [SRU]

2012-06-11 Thread Ante Karamatić
Actually, if it returns '1', apache is running. This was due the fact
that /var/run/apache2 existed after install. So, after disabling apache2
start on boot, one should reboot or delete /var/run/apache2 to simulate
clean start.

** Description changed:

  [Problem]
  Apache OCF resource agent doesn't work when SSL module is enabled

  [Impact]
  This bug impacts all users that want to set up highly available Apache
service with SSL, using Pacmaker or RedHat Cluster Suite tools.

  [Development Fix]
  Development branch isn't fixed yet either. Proposed solution is an upstream
patch for this problem.

  [Stable Fix]
  Attached patch - resource-agents-apache.debdiff - is an oneliner, authored by
upstream and part of the new upstream versions.

  [Test Case]
  To reproduce the problem, follow these steps on a clean 12.04 install:
  1. apt-get install pacemaker apache2
  2. service apache2 stop ; a2enmod ssl
  3. update-rc.d -f apache2 remove
- 4. sed -i 's/START=no/START=yes/' /etc/default/corosync ; service corosync
start
- 5. sleep 90 ; crm configure property stonith-enabled=false ; crm configure
property no-quorum-policy=ignore
- 6. crm configure primitive apache2 ocf:heartbeat:apache params \
+ 4. rm -rf /var/run/apache2 # or reboot
+ 5. sed -i 's/START=no/START=yes/' /etc/default/corosync ; service corosync
start
+ 6. sleep 90 ; crm configure property stonith-enabled=false ; crm configure
property no-quorum-policy=ignore
+ 7. crm configure primitive apache2 ocf:heartbeat:apache params \
  configfile="/etc/apache2/apache2.conf"
- 7. sleep 21 ; crm status | grep 'unknown exec error'
- 8. echo $?
+ 8. sleep 21 ; crm status | grep 'unknown exec error'
+ 9. echo $?

  Broken Behavior: last step (echo $?) will return 0, apache will not be running
  Fixed Behavior: last step (echo $?) will return 1, apache will be running

  [Regression Potential]
  There are no known regressions. This patch impacts only this resource agent;
and since it's not working now it would hardly introduce any worse side effects.

  [Original Report]

  Summary: the apache heartbeat RA that ships with both the universe
  package and PPA does not include a line to guarantee the existence of
  /var/run/apache2, which is usually done by apache2ctl. Since crm calls
  the RA, which in turn directly calls the apache2 daemon, this bit of
  housekeeping never gets done.

  I originally raised this in https://github.com/ClusterLabs/resource-
  agents/issues/70 but then realized this PPA isn't in sync with what
  they're doing there. (I'm guessing this package is downstream from
  that?)

  The line in question, at that remote repo, is
  https://github.com/ClusterLabs/resource-
  agents/blob/master/heartbeat/apache#L177

  I discovered this bug in the course of setting up a Linux HA cluster
  locally. The line I'm proposing be added is also absent from the
  universe cluster-agents package that ships with lucid. (See
  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/lucid/cluster-agents
  /lucid-proposed/view/head:/heartbeat/apache#L399)

  I'd submit a patch but I am not much up to speed on bzr... it's one line
  though so not too complex.

@Sergey, agreed. we should not be hardcoding file://tmp when there are
propoer functions to get the tempdir. Can you file a followup bug that
can be marked as another EasyHack?

[Bug 905355]

2012-06-11 Thread Björn Michaelsen
I think it _is_ a good idea to use a hardcoded path here. After all we are
evading saving to /tmp, when another app (Firefox) put a file there. As
tempdirs in configured in LibreOffice and Firefox might differ, you end up SOL
in that case anyway. So keeping the current heuristic and just being caring
about the "tmp" case should be the best we can do anyway.

[Bug 573986] Re: virtualbox still suppresses libnotify-osd notifications when running a virtual machine

2012-06-11 Thread Andreas Korth
The problem also exists on Ubuntu 12.04 64 Bit.

If you minimise the virtualbox-window, the notify-popups start to work,
even when the virtual machine is running and not paused. But after
restoring the minimised window, the problem occurs again: If there is
currently a notify-popup visible while you restore the VM-window, it
behaves normal (it is displayed in the foreground of the VM-window and
fades out after its lifetime) but no new notifies are displayed.

You can test this behaviour with the notify-send command of the
libnotify-bin package.

[Bug 1011103] Re: Cannot start Eclipse java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: org/eclipse/swt/SWTError : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0

2012-06-11 Thread James Page
swt-gtk package does not specify a target Java version and has been
rebuilt this cycle - so its currently not compatible with openjdk-6
(fixing this now).

You can probably work around this in the time being by setting your java
runtime environment to openjdk-7:

  sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-1.7.0-openjdk-amd64

[Bug 1011487] [NEW] [MIR] openjpeg

2012-06-11 Thread Albert Astals Cid
Public bug reported:

This is a MIR for openjpeg

== Availability ==

openjpeg has been available in universe for a few releases.

== Rationale ==

openjpeg is optionally used by poppler to decode JPEG2000 images, in
it's absence poppler uses its custom JPEG2000 decoder that is of lower
quality, crashes more often and is basically unmaintained since poppler
developers recommend using openjpeg and thus don't see much point in
spending time improving poppler's own JPEG2000 decoder.

openjpeg is also much more maintained than poppler's own JPEG2000 decoder
http://code.google.com/p/openjpeg/source/list
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/log/poppler/JPXStream.cc

== Security ==

openjpeg has not had any "CVE"'s reported against it.
The crash reports I (as poppler maintainer) have reported against them have
been fixed promptly.

== Quality assurance ==

openjpeg is a library and using it after installing is straight-forward.

== UI standards ==

N/A

== Dependencies ==

It's only dependency is libc6

== Standards compliance ==

Package seems to be well formed

== Maintenance ==

Package is maintained in debian

== Background information ==

openjpeg is an JPEG2000 decoder library
It's webpage can be found at http://www.openjpeg.org/
Latest release was on February 2012

[Bug 1008083] Re: package cups 1.5.3-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-11 Thread Luc Dens
I got cups back up by reinstalling the default cupsd.conf and
reinstalling cups. I had been tempering the conf in search of a solution
for an authentication problem (NT_INVALID_PARAMETER message) that
prevents me to print to a windows-printer on a server that i can access
without any difficulty with Nautilus... Somehow Cups didn't like the
changes i made into cupsd.conf. My print problem is still unresolved
though...
