[Bug 1628686] Re: kernel BUG at linux-4.8.0/mm/usercopy.c:75!

2016-10-21 Thread David Lee
I ran the command as requested, and got nothing

root@helen:~# grep HARDENED_USERCOPY_PAGESPAN= /boot/config-`uname -r`
root@helen:~#

There appears to be another kernel update today. However that update did
not help with the issue.

[Bug 1433906] Re: Acer, Inc ID 5986:055a is useless after 14.04.2 installed.

2016-10-21 Thread Joseph Salisbury
It doesn't appear the patch Henrik wrote ever landed upstream. I'll
build a Xenial test kernel with the patch to see if it fixes the bug.
If it does, we can SRU it into Ubuntu.

I'll post a link to a test kernel shortly.

[Bug 1635303] Re: GnuTLS bug in https method from apt-1.0.1ubuntu2.15 package

No idea. If you have the problematic server available and you can verify
the issue using gnutls-cli, I'd recommend to use git bisect on
gnutls_2_12_x branch to detect the commits that fix it.

[Bug 1633839] Re: No symbol table. Press any key to continue

2016-10-21 Thread Rohan Dhruva
I'm facing the same issue on my laptop after an upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10. I
tried:
* grub-install
* boot-repair

Neither worked. I also tried installing the mainline linux kernel
(4.9-rc1), that didn't help either. As others have mentioned, this is
probably something in grub, not necessarily the kernel.

[Bug 1635447] Re: Upgraded or Live USB 16.10 hangs at boot up blank purple screen

2016-10-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1635447/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1635639] Re: Seccomp error with 2.0.5-0ubuntu1~ubuntu16.04.1 on s390x

2016-10-21 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Curtis, or anyone else affected,

Accepted lxc into yakkety-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/2.0.5-0ubuntu1.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

lirc (0.9.4b-0.1) experimental; urgency=medium

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * First shot on major upstream updates.
- Re-packaged from scratch based on new dh primitives.
- Thanks for help on debian-mentors!
  * New upstream release 0.9.4
- Release 0.9.1 .. 0.9.3 was never packaged.
- Old 'lirc' service split into separate systemd services:
  lircd.service, lircmd.service and irexec.service.
- Remote definitions moved out of lirc to new project
lirc-remotes; affects large number of LP issues.
- Builds also on FreeBSD 10.3.
- Fixes "Not updated to last version" (Closes: #777199),
  LP: #1443590.
- Fixes "Default device for mode2 is /dev/lirc" (Closes: #702140).
- Fixes "/var/run/lirc contents disappear..." (Closes: #676343).
- Fixes "lircrcd segfaults" (Closes: #780062).
- Fixes "'/etc/init.d/lirc restart' is broken" (Closes: #782091).
- Fixes "Prompting due to modified conffiles..." (Closes: #655969).
- Fixes "LIRC installs bad udev rule" (Closes: #804397),
users depending on this rule will need to explicitly start lircd.
- Fixes "lirc init script can create circular symlinks", LP: #698007.
- Fixes "Update Uploaders List (Closes: #762554).
- Fixes "Please switch to libftdi1" (Closes: #810370).
- Fixes LP: #153457 "iguanaIR support not functional".
- Fixes LP: #460027 "using lirc init script restart function fails
  sometimes".
- Fixes LP: #499588 "lirc udev rule causes unreliable startup".
- Fixes LP: #567519 "lircd(8) mentions non-existent
  /dev/input/uinput".
- Fixes LP: #1029604 "mce remote doesn't work due to out of date
  lircd.conf.devinput".
- Fixes LP: #1312287 "lircd start problem".
  * The built-in irman support is moved to the lirc-drv-irman package.
  * Revised package structure: keep old liblircclient0 (renamed to
liblirc-client0). Adding new packages liblirc0, liblirc-dev and
lirc-doc. Former liblircclient-dev merged into new liblirc-dev.
  * Don't overwrite existing lircd.conf file.
  * Ship sysV scripts from the svn tree [Stefan Lippers-Hollmann]
  * Add handling of obsolete 0.9.0 udev rule restarting lircd
  * Old lircd output socket link /dev/lirc dropped. Use
/var/run/lirc/lircd.
  * Updated copyright
  * Update compiler flags: -Wl,as-needed + hardening
[Stefan Lippers-Hollmann]
  * Avoid negative architecture deps like [!hurd] (Closes: #634807)
[Stefan Lippers-Hollmann]
  * Add patch 0007-tools-remove-configs-symlink.patch + explicit link
to walk around #801719 (dh_python3 shortcomings).
  * Last parts of libirman dependencies removed.
  * Changing Vcs-* headers to point to upstream packaging branch.
  * Fixes existing large number of upgrade bugs.
  * Enhance hardening flags.
  * Add a lintian pbuilder test, this requires --hookdir and B92-test-pkg
therein.
  * Tested (build-wise) on stretch and sid.

[Bug 1631754] Re: gspell does not include translations

2016-10-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

+ Sponsoring Notes
+
+ Please just sync gspell to zesty.
+
+ The update adds a new binary package since Debian is now using an arch-
+ independent -common package for translations.
+
  Impact
  ==
The gspell package does not include any translations. This means that Text
Editor spell checking dialog is not translated which is a regression from
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (in 16.10, the spell checker library was split out of the
gedit source).
-
- Note to whoever accepts this package: The update adds a new binary
- package since Debian is now using an arch-independent -common package
- for translations. (The Debian update is still in their new queue.)

  Test Case
  =
Check the build log to ensure that translations are included.
Because gspell is in main, its translations won't be available until a
language pack is created.
gspell is so far only used in gedit.

  sudo apt install language-pack-fr language-pack-gnome-fr

  1. Open the Settings app to the Region panel. Choose French (France) as
default language.
  2. Log out and log back in.
  3. Open 'Éditeur de texte'
  4. Type a misspelled word in the text editor
  5. In the menu, click 'Outils' , then select 'Verification orthographique'

The spell check dialog should be in French not English.

  Regression Potential
  ===
  None.

  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.10

[Bug 1347305] Re: Address fields are grey when composing messages

2016-10-21 Thread Andrej
Actually, problem has diminished:
- Active fields can be found by hovering the mouse.
- When creating new message, first "To:" field is selected by default.
- If you forget to add "Subject:" line, you are reminded.

Personally i got used to new interface and always remember to change
To:, Subject: etc. when i reply or forward message.
So, this bug no longer affects me.

Also, didn't heard any complains from new users.

May-be this bug should be closed?

[Bug 1635656] [NEW] SRU: sync zfsutils-linux and spl-linux changes to linux

2016-10-21 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

[SRU Justification][Yakkety]

SPL (spl-linux) is currently now sync'd to Debian and ZFS has been
updated to -0ubuntu4, so sync these changes to yakkety as a SRU.

Changes to the kernel are minimal, just to spl/module/spl/spl-generic.c,
where a redundant (and somewhat alarming) warning message has been
removed.

Other than that, the changes are just to do with the autotools config
scripts. I've build and tested these changes against the kernel-team
autotest-client-tests ZFS regression tests and no regressions have been
found.

[Test case]
Run against all the kernel-team autotest-client-tests ZFS regression tests -
all should pass

[Regression Potential]
1. Minor changes to autotools config scripts - however these have been tested
and will only affect the build and not the run time binary
2. No major code change to drivers except for removing a redundant warning
message that should not be issued, so only this may break any weird code that
is scraping the kernel log for such non-standard messages (which is not
expected).

[Bug 1635115] Re: grub fails zfs root filesystem detection due to failed checksum

2016-10-21 Thread Rob Starkey
Kernel versions were 4.4.0-42 upgrading to 4.4.0-45.

The checksum mismatch happens with every kernel version, so I don't
think it's kernel specific. Looks to be a grub or ZOL issue.

[Bug 1635654] Re: Machine fails to stop, or start interfaces. hangs in systemd waiting for completion

2016-10-21 Thread LaMont Jones
After you change your /e/n/i to that, and reproduce the issue,
break=init, and then mount -oremount,rw /root; chroot /root; vi
/etc/network/interfaces and comment out everything from "auto br1" to
end of file, exit; mount -oremount,ro /root; exit

and you're back to a bootable system... Which is why the apport files
are pretty much useless on this report.

[Bug 1609242] Re: Kernels 4.3-4.8 result in blackscreen - Intel Ivybridge

2016-10-21 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:
97d3308ab245c51ae237b3444afa7ae87aa9bcd4

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1609242

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

+ ## SRU paperwork
+ ### Rationale
+ LXC 2.0.5 added support for Seccomp on the s390x architecture for those
kernels that support it. Unfortunately the personality handling for s390x is
wrong and results in the profile being setup twice, causing a failure to start
the container.
+
+ This effectively means that LXC 2.0.5 fails out of the box on s390x.
+
+ ### Test case
+ With LXC:
+ - lxc-start -n some-container -F
+
+ With LXD:
+ - lxc start some-container
+
+ ### Regression potential
+ Our own testing shows that the fix works perfectly fine. The code change
itself only affects s390x (under ifdef) so can't possibly affect the other
architectures.
+
+ The worst that can happen should this fix be wrong is either status quo
+ (container won't start) or having the container start without seccomp
+ support (status quo when compared to 2.0.4).
+
+
+ ## Original bug report
The s390x host used to Juju testing spontaneously broke today.
The disk filled up, we restarted so that we could remove unused
kernels. We discovered that lxc1 cannot create containers any more.

[Bug 1635639] Please test proposed package

2016-10-21 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Curtis, or anyone else affected,

Accepted lxc into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/2.0.5-0ubuntu1~ubuntu16.04.2 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Thank you in
advance!

they work fine. Please try to find me on #ubuntu (nacc) if you want some
help, or you can just wait for the normal update to come through.

[Bug 1635684] Re: libglfw3-dev unnecessarily conflicts with libglfw-dev (for GLFW 2.x)

2016-10-21 Thread Jakub Narębski
James, are you sure that /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libglfw.so comes from
libglfw-dev package?

First, the libglfw-dev should have only include files (and maybe static
library), plus documentation. Doesn't the library come from libglfw2?

Second, the package should include fully qualified libraries, that is
libglfw.so.2 and not libglfw.so. The unqualified name should be created
by post-install step. Installing different versions of the same
libraries in parallel is a solved problem.

As for GLFW 2 no longer existing in Yakkety, I'd like to remind you that
Ubuntu 16.04 is LTS: Long Term Support! So this is not an academic
question - many people are running LTS.

[Bug 1471123] Re: suddenly tabulator-key stops working normally

2016-10-21 Thread Aapo Rantalainen
After fresh install on Ubuntu 16.04 I found this will break tab key instantly:
xmodmap -e 'clear Mod4'

My goal was to remap Super_L to be additional Alt_L (and not affect tab key at
all):

This works for me on Ubuntu 16.04 (with xfce):
xmodmap -e 'remove mod4 = Super_L'
xmodmap -e 'remove mod4 = Hyper_L'
xmodmap -e 'keycode 133 = Alt_L'
xmodmap -e 'add mod4 = Super_L Hyper_L'

[Bug 1553563] Re: bconsole to Bacula Director fails with authorization problem message

2016-10-21 Thread Nish Aravamudan
@Kern,

I fully understand your frustration. The delay here is that there are
multiple bugs, all of which needed verification. The original
submitter(s) did not necessarily respond in a timely fashion in those
bugs to the -proposed version and this slid down my plate. I went
through and verified them myself (not ideal, IMO, but sufficient). So
the SRU team should be able to move bacula through now.

It does dawn on me based upon your comments that you might want to
consider snap'ing bacula -- then you would control the releases, etc.

Thanks,
Nish

[Bug 1635708] [NEW] could not install grub to the separate hard drive I installed just for ubuntu

2016-10-21 Thread jeff noble
Public bug reported:

my HP Proliant ML30 Gen9 PC has some sort of built-in software RAID that
requires UEFI.
Installing Ubuntu to the existing Windows "mirrored" drives resulted in not
being able to boot Windows and Ubuntu.

Next I bought a 3rd hard drive, did not set it up with any mirroring or
anything. Booted in UEFI mode again, and chose "something else" in the
Ubuntu installer to install the bootloader to this new 3rd hard drive,
and I also set up swap, root, and UEFI partitions.

Near the end of the DVD-RW installation, it told me that it was "unable
to install grub to /dev/sdc" (sdc=third hard disk)... "Executing grub-
install /dev/sdc failed. This is a fatal error." Then the installer
took me her to fill out a bug report.

This was a 16.04.01 Ubuntu-Gnome DVD-RW installation.

[Bug 1627339] Re: multiple apache instances don't start after reboot

2016-10-21 Thread Horst Platz
simliar problem with proxy_balancer / slotmem_shm

in my further on configuration with prox_balancer. i figured out a
another start/reboot problem with proxy_balancer configuration.

remember

:~# systemctl disable apache2
default apache is disabled -> reboot -> /var/run/apache2/ don't exist

:~# sh /usr/share/doc/apache2/examples/setup-instance proxy-balancer

Setting up /etc/logrotate.d/apache2-proxy-balancer and
/var/log/apache2-proxy-balancer ...

:~# systemctl enable apache2-proxy-balancer
apache2-proxy-balancer.service is not a native service, redirecting to

the module slotmem_shm has only .load files no .conf files

:~# ls -la mods-enabled/

../mods-available/slotmem_shm.load

https://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/mod/mod_slotmem_shm.html

in the dokumentation is described that the module writes in the
"DefaultRuntimeDir"

in my opinion that directory is set in the envvars file with the $SUFFIX in
the right way.

:~# cat /etc/apache2-proxy-balancer/envvars
[...]
export APACHE_RUN_DIR=/var/run/apache2$SUFFIX
[...]

but see above the module looks like, don't follow that entry

my solution extra set from DefaultRuntimeDir in the multiple apache
.conf file

:~# vim sites-enabled/proxy-balancer.conf
DefaultRuntimeDir /var/run/apache2-proxy-balancer/
[...]

:~# apache2ctl-proxy-balancer configtest
