[Bug 1756261] [NEW] reseed landscape in 18.04

2018-03-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

After Wily landscape was taken out of the default installs for dragging
in too much of python2 dependencies.

But recently landscape is now on python3 and back then the plan was to
bring it back in when that happens.

It was discussed by the product stakeholders and decided to do so.

I wanted to document some details in the bug to refer to them from the
seed entry.

In the past (pre Xenial) there were more components than today:
* landscape-client - was in the cloud-image (and pulled in landscape-common by
dependencies)
* landscape-common - was in the default server install
* landscape-client - was on the Server ISO to install along landscape-common
off the disk
* landscape-client-ui-install - was on the Desktop

These days there only are (both in main already)
* landscape-client
* landscape-common

We do not want to touch the Desktop case, but now that it is py3 it should be
back on the server.
I discussed the details and we want:
* landscape-common - installed in cloud-image and default server install
* landscape-client - available from the ISO

But while py3 means it will not pull in "all of py2" it still hase py3
dependencies that would not be needed without any dependencies. It will drag in
some python packages still.
The following analysis was done with landscape-common 18.01-0ubuntu2 as it is
in bionic today and a fresh clean cloud-image as well as lxd container.
In both it will additionally bring in:
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  bc
  landscape-common
  python3-attr
  python3-automat
  python3-click
  python3-colorama
  python3-constantly
  python3-hyperlink
  python3-incremental
  python3-openssl
  python3-pam
  python3-pyasn1
  python3-pyasn1-modules
  python3-service-identity
  python3-twisted
  python3-twisted-bin
  python3-zope.interface

That will be 15.6 MB of additional disk space (after install).
This will be ~the amount the cloud image qcow grows, but will be less in the
compressed form of the lxd image.

I can prep the seed changes, but need two acks to be sure:
1. a confirm that this really is exactly the change we want
2. that the extra dependencies that will be installed were considered when the
decision to bring it back was made

[Bug 1756265] [NEW] gnome screencast stops after 30 seconds

2018-03-16 Thread Martin Vysny
Public bug reported:

When I start screencast by pressing Alt+Ctrl+Shift+R, it auto-stops
itself exactly after 30 seconds. That is highly unexpected, there is no
explanation as to why the sudden stop. That leaves me confused as an
user.

Workaround is to increase the screencast max duration:

[Bug 1755144] Re: No audio on vlc or videos sound or video files

2018-03-16 Thread John Rose
I've done all the above previously and have done all the above just now.
Still no audio on this PC for mp3 files using vlc, but audio Ok on other
very similar (both barebones Intel with same memory) PC with same
software (i.e. Ubuntu 16.04, vlc). Other (new) PC had recent install
from 16.04.3 and uses ppa for get_iplayer resulting in libav packages
(as discussed previously) being from that ppa. This PC is approx 2 years
old and had install from 16.04.1. Both PCs are fully up to date with
software.

[Bug 1756261] Re: reseed landscape in 18.04

2018-03-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
@Andreas - thanks for the mail clarification on landscape package
history.

The needed seed change will be:
- server - add landscape common
- (cloud-image implicitly pulls in the ubuntu-server meta package)
- (landscape-client is already in server-ship so both are on the ISO)

So the change itself is minimal and consists of:
=== modified file 'server'
--- server 2018-03-07 17:32:29 +
+++ server  2018-03-16 07:00:35 +
@@ -64,3 +64,4 @@
  * s390-tools [s390x]   # needed for z block devices, bootloader,
encryption features, etc.
  * gnupg
  * dirmngr
+ * landscape-common # LP: #1756261

And a follow on update on ubuntu-meta to update the "ubuntu-server"
package.

Waiting for the ack on the questions I outlined (at the end of the
description) to go on - David/Steve you were part of these discussions -
can you confirm?

[Bug 1605861] Re: apt-key output should not be parsed (stdout is not a terminal)

2018-03-16 Thread era
apt-key was changed in Debian Stretch to warn when you attempt to do
something like

apt-key add /dev/null

or the equivalent pipeline. The manual page says

COMMANDS
   add filename
(...)
Note: Instead of using this command a keyring should be placed
directly in the /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/ directory with a descriptive name
and either "gpg" or "asc" as file extension.

So, the right thing to do is to copy the file to the right path instead of
calling apt-key add with it.

key_buffer_size + (read_buffer_size + sort_buffer_size)*max_threads = 101418 K
bytes of memory
Hope that's ok; if not, decrease some variables in the equation.

[Bug 1590799] Re: nfs-kernel-server does not start because of dependency failure

2018-03-16 Thread Marat Khalili
Probably due to unrelated problem nfsd did not start for me to yesterday
too. I've experienced the original bug this thread is about and I've had
it fixed for some time. Should we create another bug or can we track it
here?

[Bug 1756247] [NEW] Compiz Application Switcher plugin is enabled by default on Ubuntu 16.04.4

2018-03-16 Thread Omer Akram
Public bug reported:

Yesterday I installed (clean) Ubuntu 16.04.4 on a computer. Later I
realized there was something wrong with the alt-tab switcher: There were
two alt-tab overlays, so I installed compizconfig-settings-manager and
found 'Application Switcher' plugin was also enabled. I disabled that
and everything is fine now.

I have attached a screenshot.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1733737

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1755144] Re: No audio on vlc or videos sound or video files

2018-03-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK, next idea: You seem to have config files from the old version of
pulse still installed:

ii libpulse0:amd64 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.8
amd64PulseAudio client libraries
rc libpulse0:i3861:8.0-0ubuntu3.7
i386 PulseAudio client libraries

It's also from the wrong architecture (i386). So this means your current
version might not work properly and/or your testing of the previous
version might have been flawed since the wrong architecture was
installed at some point...

Please:

1. Purge the old config files:
   sudo dpkg -P libpulse0:i386
2. Reboot and retest.

If that didn't work then please retry installing the previous version,
being sure to install the amd64 architecture only, from here:

[Bug 1753018] Re: Please merge strongswan 5.6.2-1 from Debian

2018-03-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
I checked quickly and yeah it seems to be fix-only and thereby not violating
the Feature Freeze.
Bypass-lan was already added being default disabled in Debian - so that should
all be fine.

I'll take a look if the merge is more complex than expected.

[Bug 1753662] Re: [i40e] LACP bonding start up race conditions

2018-03-16 Thread Nobuto Murata
The new build of v4.12-rc3 is a good build (2 of 151).
4.12.0-041200rc3-generic #201803151851

v4.12-rc3 - bad (24 of 90 - 26.6%)
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.13-rc3/

v4.12-rc3 - relatively good (2 of 151 - 1.3%)
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1753662/v4.12-rc3/

So what is the difference between those two? build config?

Click on the kwrite window for A. Get "File has changed on disk" popup. Click
"Reload".
Click on the kwrite window for B. Do not get expected "File has changed on

[Bug 1756298] [NEW] missing xubuntu session

2018-03-16 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm running a 18.04 alpha/beta from the daily builds to test some
things, thus started with the default new ubuntu (gnome) desktop. When I
install lubuntu-desktop, I get new session types like LXDE and Lubuntu,
which I can choose at login time from the gdm session chooser (gear-
wheel symbol).

But when I install xubuntu-desktop, I don't get new session types. With
former ubuntu releases, this was working.

[Bug 1753430] Re: virtualbox-guest-utils.service not starting

2018-03-16 Thread Tony Middleton
I have now done clean installs of 16.04, installed the virtualbox-guest
packages then upgraded to 18.04.

In all cases the 16.04 install worked. When adding the guest packages I
received the messages similar to:

vboxguest:
Running module version sanity check.
Error! Module version 5.0.40_Ubuntu for vboxguest.ko
is not newer than what is already found in kernel 4.13.0-36-generic
(5.1.28_Ubuntu).
You may override by specifying --force.

However everything worked fine at 16.04.

I then ran the upgrade to 18.04. In each case the guest packages were
removed during the upgrade so I then reinstalled them. The reinstalls
had various results.

Kubuntu, Ubuntu - All OK.

Lubuntu - reinstall failed as follows:

Setting up virtualbox-guest-dkms (5.2.8-dfsg-2) ...
Loading new virtualbox-guest-5.2.8 DKMS files...
Building for 4.15.0-12-generic
Building initial module for 4.15.0-12-generic
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.15.0-12-generic (i686)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/5.2.8/build/make.log for more
information.

Will post log mentioned separately. The virtualbox-guest-utils.service
does not start automatically but strangely can be started manually and
then things work.

Ubuntu Mate - Reinstall seemed to go OK however the virtualbox-guest-
utils.service is not started automatically. It can be started manually.

Xubuntu - reinstall failed as follows:

Setting up virtualbox-guest-dkms (5.2.8-dfsg-2) ...
Loading new virtualbox-guest-5.2.8 DKMS files...
Building for 4.15.0-12-generic
Building initial module for 4.15.0-12-generic
Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.15.0-12-generic (i686)
Consult /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox-guest/5.2.8/build/make.log for more
information.

Will post log mentioned separately. However the virtualbox-guest-
utils.service starts automatically and shared folders work.

[Bug 1740576] Re: Files ocamlbuildlib.cmxa and unix.cmxa make inconsistent assumptions over implementation Unix

2018-03-16 Thread Dominique Unruh
The following workaround works for me:

sudo apt remove ocamlbuild
sudo opam install ocamlbuild

This avoids using the broken ocamlbuild from the repository but installs
a separate one.

for xenial

I checked that this patch is working.

1. deploy xenial
2. ran script on test case
3. reboot, and check if there is issue on order or failed service
4. upgrade to -proposed pkg
5. reboot, and check if there is issue(it is gone)

Thanks a lot

[Bug 1755383] Re: package samba 2:4.6.7+dfsg-1ubuntu3.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-03-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
The logs really have no info about what happened on upgrade.

But if that is reproducible you should be able to run e.g.
$ sudo apt install --reinstall samba

That should trigger the error again and after that the logs should hold
some info why they failed to start.

TL;DR:
1. $ sudo apt install --reinstall samba
2. If above fails report the content of the two logs after that
3. sharing the full output of
   $ systemctl status smbd
   $ systemctl status nmbd

[Bug 1754601] Re: openconnect has trouble maintaining a VPN connection

2018-03-16 Thread Michael Thayer
I tried it for a bit with the old Artful kernel without issues. As soon
as I booted back into the Bionic 4.15 I was unable to connect to the VPN
again. It might be worth mentioning that the Cisco VPN tool also failed
to connect. I did not try that one with 4.13.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since there isn't enough information in your report to differentiate
between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking
this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1756202] Re: nmbd crashed with SIGABRT in dbghdrclass()

2018-03-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
This is a rather generic error in nmbd/smbd as this is just the way it aborts.

I looked but found no bug being exactly the same, just many others where the
SIG_ABRT hit.

Is that issue reproducible?
If so how?

In general attaching the nmbd.log and smbd.log might help (if before the
crash it was able to drop info there).

[Bug 1756115] Re: Ubuntu Bionic libvirt 4.0.0 Segfault

2018-03-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi David,
with just the addresses I can't do a lot.

You need to describe exactly how you setup your guest and what you do (I
assume hot attach a device).

Please add XMLs and examples how you created the guests.
Only then one can reproduce and try to help debugging.

Since it is a crash you also should be able in additon to report that to the
bug.
Start at [1] for that.

[Bug 1688018] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6

2018-03-16 Thread Pioterus
Almost year old bug still there. This is core functionality of any OS
(secure VPNs, DNS) which just does not work on Ubuntu. I don't know how
about other distros but I doubt that Ubuntu can claim to be the desktop
system with such a bug.

I can confirm that the simplest workaround is comment out dnsmasq in
NetworkManager config (ubuntu 16.04). But there are drawbacks of course so this
makes the system less secure/reliable in some situations. And of course it
took me about 5 hours to figure out what is going on. Those hours could be
spend more productive.
