[Bug 1713238] Re: gufw will not open in ubuntu wayland 17.10
The problem is that wayland as a security measure *either* gives you access to the display server *or* to root => the interactive part of gufw needs to be running with the user account and the small portions root privilleges are needed for need to be run by policykit. [Bug 1756517] [NEW] grub-install: error: diskfilter writes are not supported
Public bug reported: This has and continues to affect all releases of Ubuntu including 18.04 and probably beyond. This bug is to track potential fixes to allow writes for some common scenarios - the easiest being a RAID-1 mirror where it is just a case of mapping the writes to the underlying device nodes. In summary, upstream GRUB has a 'diskfilter' module for dealing with LVM (lvm2), Device Mapper (dmsetup), Multiple Device (mdadm). The module only supports reading from these devices. When trying to install to such a device the operation fails with: $ grub-install /dev/md0 Installing for i386-pc platform. grub-install: error: diskfilter writes are not supported. There are work-arounds which involve identifying and operating on the underlying device, e.g: for a RAID-1 mirror: $ cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [raid1] [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10] md0 : active raid1 sdb[1] sda[0] 244198400 blocks super 1.0 [2/2] [UU] $ grub-install /dev/sda $ grub-install /dev/sdb These cam be sub-optimal in some circumstances as well as breaking some standard OS package-upgrade operations. The responsible code is ./grub-core/disk/diskfilter.c: static grub_err_t grub_diskfilter_write (grub_disk_t disk __attribute ((unused)), grub_disk_addr_t sector __attribute ((unused)), grub_size_t size __attribute ((unused)), const char *buf __attribute ((unused))) { return grub_error (GRUB_ERR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED_YET, "diskfilter writes are not supported"); } The read functionality gives some indication of how the write operation might be organised: grub_diskfilter_read() >read_lv() >>read_segment() >>>grub_diskfilter_read_node() grub_disk_read() It should be possible to factor out and re-use the common device and offset calculation code from these functions since all but the actual grub_disk_write() only do in-memory operations. [Bug 1753776] Re: Graphics corruption just before login animation to Xorg sessions (Intel gen9 GPUs only)
Doing some testing: - first modifying options into /etc/gdm3/custom.conf set [daemon] WaylandEnable=false to force xorg login : my feeling is that should be the default now as ubuntu as made that choice for the release (and wayland / apps still does not well together in many cases) - then rebboting And now the problem existing with my hardware and reported here is gone: no distorted screen. That system is using the 'proposed' archive and is fully updated. What is also different now: the login options (gear button) have dropped the wayland ones. So my conclusion are: - /etc/gdm3/custom.conf should use xorg, not wayland - the issue reported gere seems have been introduced by the wayland (1.14.0-2) changes (patch) * wayland (1.14.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium * debian/patches/CVE-2017-16612.patch: (Closes: #889681) - libXcursor before 1.1.15 has various integer overflows that could lead to heap buffer overflows when processing malicious cursors, e.g., with programs like GIMP. It is also possible that an attack vector exists against the related code in cursor/xcursor.c in Wayland through 1.14.0. * switch back to use upstream tarball * debian/control: bump standards version, drop priority stanzas -- Héctor Orón Martínez Sun, 04 Mar 2018 11:56:31 +0100 *** ** CVE added: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=2017-16612 ** Package changed: mutter (Ubuntu) => gdm3 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: gdm3 (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New ** Package changed: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) => wayland (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: wayland (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New ** Changed in: wayland (Ubuntu) Assignee: Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1753776 Title: Graphics corruption just before login animation to Xorg sessions (Intel gen9 GPUs only) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/1753776/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1756201] Re: xsane not aquiring images from Lide 30
I got xsane running by copying the content of /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/sane from the old Ubuntu 14.04 (64 bit) installation to the same location in my Ubuntu 17.10 (64 bit) install. According to sane-config --version the "old" libraries are from the release 1.0.23. (And the naming of the files also suggests that.) I then tried to compile sane from source according to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompileSaneFromSource in the hope to bisect the commit where this change happend: sudo apt-get install libusb-dev build-essential libsane-dev sudo apt-get install libavahi-client-dev libavahi-glib-dev git clone git://git.debian.org/sane/sane-backends.git ./configure --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --enable-avahi make sudo make install After each install I rebooted the machine in order to flush any cached libraries from memory. This first attempt did not work. (Same error as described above). I then tried the various newer releases and one older one (1.0.22): git checkout RELEASE_1_0_xx configure, make, make install, reboot, test. However, all of those fail. The only version that works every time is the one I've copied from Ubuntu 14.04. [Bug 1451028] Re: git-svn coredumps
[Impact] Subversion's Perl bindings randomly crash. This is most typically seen when using git-svn, since it's a heavy user of the bindings. [Test case] "git svn clone -s svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/flightgear/fgaddon". With the existing package in xenial, git-svn kept crashing while trying to checkout the first revision. With the updated package, I've successfully processed 2400 revisions before being interrupted by a network issue. [Regression potential] This brings the code up to date with current released Subversion code in this area. The upstream release which included these changes (1.9.5) has been in Debian since 2016-11-29 and I've received no further reports of issues. ** Patch added: "subversion.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/subversion/+bug/1451028/+attachment/5082105/+files/subversion.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1451028 Title: git-svn coredumps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/subversion/+bug/1451028/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1756527] [NEW] Requires kill -9 to terminate
Public bug reported: Under 16.04 LTS, neither the 'close window' button on the window frame nor the 'Quit' option in the right-click menu in the Unity launcher will actually terminate the process or close its window. strace confirms that it sets a null handler for SIGINT, SIGTERM, SIGSEGV, SIGBUS, SIGFPE, and SIGQUIT on startup, which is inexplicable for a game. Public bug reported: I have few electron applications used. Under Kubuntu all of them have strange behavior when left mouse button clicked on tray icon. When I click left mouse button I expect application to be opened but instead I'm getting the same behavior as right mouse button clicked(context menu opened). [Bug 1515331] Re: localechooser-apply: Don't default to am (Amharic) for Ethiopia (ET)
Is there any ability to get this looked at before 18.04? I have to instruct everyone here to choose a location in the US during installation so that the language settings are setup correctly. Then after install, we go to Date and Time to set the timezone to Ethiopia. Since Ubuntu is wanting diagnostics from users on install country, Ethiopia will never be counted! We have over 100 installs now and will likely double this or even more in the next year. It would be GREAT if we could correctly be identified as being in Ethiopia but due to this bug it won't be reported correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1515331 Title: localechooser-apply: Don't default to am (Amharic) for Ethiopia (ET) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1515331/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1756535/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1677398] Re: Apparmor prevents using storage pools and hostdev networks
I have the same problem using raw lvm logical volumes as disk on Ubuntu 18.04. When i try to start a vm with virt-manager qemu says Permission denied on device. The lvm uses device mapper to map the logical volumes so i need to handle devices like brw-rw 1 libvirt-qemu kvm 253, 4 mar 17 13:24 /dev/dm-4 After a bunch of failure attempts to start the vm machine, the following steps was successful: I run the aa-logprof (apparmor-utils package) util to update the apparmor profiles using the syslog, and i add the following line in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu ... /dev/dm* krw, just before the /dev/net/tun rw, line. If the line already exists just replace "rw" with "krw" to permit file lock operations.
