[Bug 1713238] Re: gufw will not open in ubuntu wayland 17.10

2018-03-17 Thread PeterPall
The problem is that wayland as a security measure *either* gives you
access to the display server *or* to root => the interactive part of
gufw needs to be running with the user account and the small portions
root privilleges are needed for need to be run by policykit. Which is a
good idea - but which synaptic and gufw currently fail to do.

[Bug 1756508] [NEW] Gnome-shell cpu load dramatically high and stuck high with Eclipse

2018-03-17 Thread Alex B
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I recently upgraded Ubuntu from 16.04 to 17.10. Since I did, I cannot use
Eclipse any more.
I can start Eclipse, but as soon as I try to de-maximize it, gnome-shell CPU
load raises to 80%-95% and remains that level. I ¥t sometimes drops a bit down
to 70% but still keeps high and blocks everything. Even if by chance and
patience I succeed closing Eclipse, the CPU load keeps high.
Until now I found no way to recover.

Ubuntu 17.10
Gnome 3.26.2
Runs in Virtual box
Core i7x2
8 GB RAM

Eclipse Photon 4.8 M6
But same happened with Oyxgen 4.7.2

Other info needed, please let me know... not sure how to circle this
closer. Once it happens, it's over .

devs spoke of accepting an SRU (full stable-release-update) for xenial

approach [?].

If /var/log/gdm/ subdir is not used now and deprecated since systemd is

[Bug 1756517] [NEW] grub-install: error: diskfilter writes are not supported

2018-03-17 Thread TJ
Public bug reported:

This has and continues to affect all releases of Ubuntu including 18.04
and probably beyond.

This bug is to track potential fixes to allow writes for some common
scenarios - the easiest being a RAID-1 mirror where it is just a case of
mapping the writes to the underlying device nodes.

In summary, upstream GRUB has a 'diskfilter' module for dealing with LVM
(lvm2), Device Mapper (dmsetup), Multiple Device (mdadm). The module
only supports reading from these devices.

When trying to install to such a device the operation fails with:

$ grub-install /dev/md0
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: error: diskfilter writes are not supported.

There are work-arounds which involve identifying and operating on the
underlying device, e.g: for a RAID-1 mirror:

$ cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [raid1] [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4]
[raid10]
md0 : active raid1 sdb[1] sda[0]
  244198400 blocks super 1.0 [2/2] [UU]

$ grub-install /dev/sda
$ grub-install /dev/sdb

These cam be sub-optimal in some circumstances as well as breaking some
standard OS package-upgrade operations.

The responsible code is ./grub-core/disk/diskfilter.c:

static grub_err_t
  grub_diskfilter_write (grub_disk_t disk __attribute ((unused)),
   grub_disk_addr_t sector __attribute ((unused)),
   grub_size_t size __attribute ((unused)),
   const char *buf __attribute ((unused)))
  {
return grub_error (GRUB_ERR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED_YET,
   "diskfilter writes are not supported");
  }

The read functionality gives some indication of how the write operation might
be organised:

grub_diskfilter_read()
>read_lv()
>>read_segment()
>>>grub_diskfilter_read_node()
grub_disk_read()

It should be possible to factor out and re-use the common device and
offset calculation code from these functions since all but the actual
grub_disk_write() only do in-memory operations.

Related bugs:

Bug #701351 "grub-install fails to install on a raid1 array" (same issue)

[Bug 1603600] Re: NetworkManager ignores pushed openvpn routes

2018-03-17 Thread Andrey Arapov via ubuntu-bugs
The same issue :-/

Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS

network-manager-openvpn 1.1.93-1ubuntu1.1
network-manager-openvpn-gnome   1.1.93-1ubuntu1.1

I am usually setting:
VPN connection settings -> IPv4 Settings -> Routes... -> [x] Use this
connection only for resources on its network.

So that my default GW is not changed as I need only the VPN routes.
Except that with this bug, the VPN routes are not really applied on my system.

When running openvpn on its own, everything is working.

[Bug 1688890] Re: initramfs-zfs should support misc /dev dirs

2018-03-17 Thread Richard Laager
I need to do some testing, but we might want to consider using the cache
file. An approach (suggested to my by ryao, I think) was that we first
import the root pool read-only, copy the cache file out of it, export
the pool, and then import the pool read-write using the cache file.

[Bug 1653456] Re: ASUS G752VS: Touchpad and Fn keys not working (Ubuntu 16.04.1/16.10/17.04)

2018-03-17 Thread Kasimodo
Hi all.

I'm a noob in Linux and sorry for my very bad english. I have a G752VM (not VS)
but got same problem with same Touchpad (ELAN1203).
I noticed there is something weird. I use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS installed and
Touchpad doesn't work at all. BUT... if I start my G752VM with a LiveUSB key
16.04.3 LTS Ubuntu and suspend my Laptop and, then I wake up Touchpad works
like a charm.
So why does this Touchpad work with LiveUSB key and not when Ubuntu is
installed?

[Bug 1753776] Re: Graphics corruption just before login animation to Xorg sessions (Intel gen9 GPUs only)

2018-03-17 Thread dino99
Doing some testing:

- first modifying options into /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
   set [daemon] WaylandEnable=false to force xorg login :
 my feeling is that should be the default now as ubuntu as made that choice for
the release (and wayland / apps still does not well together in many cases)

- then rebboting

And now the problem existing with my hardware and reported here is gone: no
distorted screen.
That system is using the 'proposed' archive and is fully updated.
What is also different now: the login options (gear button) have dropped the
wayland ones.

So my conclusion are:
- /etc/gdm3/custom.conf should use xorg, not wayland
- the issue reported gere seems have been introduced by the wayland (1.14.0-2)
changes (patch)

*
wayland (1.14.0-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * debian/patches/CVE-2017-16612.patch: (Closes: #889681)
- libXcursor before 1.1.15 has various integer overflows that could lead
  to heap buffer overflows when processing malicious cursors, e.g., with
  programs like GIMP. It is also possible that an attack vector exists
  against the related code in cursor/xcursor.c in Wayland through
  1.14.0.
  * switch back to use upstream tarball
  * debian/control: bump standards version, drop priority stanzas

[Bug 1756201] Re: xsane not aquiring images from Lide 30

2018-03-17 Thread mistr
I got xsane running by copying the content of /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/sane from the old Ubuntu 14.04 (64 bit) installation to the same
location in my Ubuntu 17.10 (64 bit) install.

According to

  sane-config --version

the "old" libraries are from the release 1.0.23. (And the naming of the
files also suggests that.)

I then tried to compile sane from source according to
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompileSaneFromSource in the hope to
bisect the commit where this change happend:

sudo apt-get install libusb-dev build-essential libsane-dev
sudo apt-get install libavahi-client-dev libavahi-glib-dev

git clone git://git.debian.org/sane/sane-backends.git

./configure --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu --sysconfdir=/etc
--localstatedir=/var  --enable-avahi
make
sudo make install

After each install I rebooted the machine in order to flush any cached
libraries from memory.

This first attempt did not work. (Same error as described above).

I then tried the various newer releases and one older one (1.0.22):

git checkout RELEASE_1_0_xx

configure, make, make install, reboot, test.

However, all of those fail.

The only version that works every time is the one I've copied from
Ubuntu 14.04.

At this point I don't know how to proceed.

have the same issue. tried latest mainline http://kernel.ubuntu.com

dmesg shows ACPI supports S0 S4 S5

quite a lot of people reporting same problem, see e.g.

[Bug 1690541] Re: Scrolled windows in update-manager are too small to read

2018-03-17 Thread Dennis L.
I can confirm that the embedded installation progress terminal frame now
expands as expected. For the last three runs of update-manager (that took long
enough to be able to open the detailed view) the terminal has the correct size.
However the download progress does not. It now shows five lines for downloading
packages but when expanding the entire window the download progress frame does
not expand together with the window (in vertical direction) but stays at the
five lines size.

[Bug 1756105] Re: X1 Carbon 6th gen S0i3 sleep broken

2018-03-17 Thread jacco
note that in previously mentioned thread on lenovo forum the workaround
used is to enable S3 by patching DSDT tables. for those interested: see
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=234913

it seems to me the root cause is not so much S3 state support is
missing, but that S0i3 isn't recognized/used by kernel.

[Bug 1451028] Re: git-svn coredumps

2018-03-17 Thread James McCoy
[Impact]

Subversion's Perl bindings randomly crash. This is most typically seen
when using git-svn, since it's a heavy user of the bindings.

[Test case]

"git svn clone -s svn://svn.code.sf.net/p/flightgear/fgaddon". With the
existing package in xenial, git-svn kept crashing while trying to
checkout the first revision. With the updated package, I've
successfully processed 2400 revisions before being interrupted by a
network issue.

[Regression potential]

This brings the code up to date with current released Subversion code in
this area. The upstream release which included these changes (1.9.5)
has been in Debian since 2016-11-29 and I've received no further reports
of issues.

[Bug 1756527] [NEW] Requires kill -9 to terminate

2018-03-17 Thread Brent Spillner
Public bug reported:

Under 16.04 LTS, neither the 'close window' button on the window frame
nor the 'Quit' option in the right-click menu in the Unity launcher will
actually terminate the process or close its window. strace confirms
that it sets a null handler for SIGINT, SIGTERM, SIGSEGV, SIGBUS,
SIGFPE, and SIGQUIT on startup, which is inexplicable for a game.
Thankfully, it exits normally on SIGKILL with no zombies left over.

[Bug 1755106] Re: /org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/ fails to load

2018-03-17 Thread Péter Prőhle
Today I had again a possibility to check the issue.

Tell me please, that what kind of information, what command outputs
should I attach, when I face myself to the issue in question?

Output of "dmesg | grep -i gsd" is empty.

Outout of "journalctl | grep -i gsd" has no new items in the last 4
days.

However I found interesting lines in journalctl, hence I try to add the
result of "journalctl | grep -i key | grep -i failed >

[Bug 1756535] [NEW] Kubuntu electron(nonnative) applications tray icon left mouse click acts like right mouse click

2018-03-17 Thread Ievgen Sobko
Public bug reported:

I have few electron applications used.
Under Kubuntu all of them have strange behavior when left mouse button clicked
on tray icon.
When I click left mouse button I expect application to be opened but instead
I'm getting the same behavior as right mouse button clicked(context menu
opened).
This issue affects at least Kubuntu 17.10, 18.04 Beta1, KDE neon that is based
on Ubuntu LTS 16.04.
Dont see such behavior on Arch KDE distributions.
Reproduced this with following aplications "pcloud drive", "skypeforlinux",
"upwork desktop application".

[Bug 1515331] Re: localechooser-apply: Don't default to am (Amharic) for Ethiopia (ET)

2018-03-17 Thread Rik Shaw
Is there any ability to get this looked at before 18.04? I have to
instruct everyone here to choose a location in the US during
installation so that the language settings are setup correctly. Then
after install, we go to Date and Time to set the timezone to Ethiopia.

Since Ubuntu is wanting diagnostics from users on install country,
Ethiopia will never be counted! We have over 100 installs now and will
likely double this or even more in the next year. It would be GREAT if
we could correctly be identified as being in Ethiopia but due to this
bug it won't be reported correctly.

[Bug 1756535] Re: Kubuntu electron(nonnative) applications tray icon left mouse click acts like right mouse click

2018-03-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1756535/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1677398] Re: Apparmor prevents using storage pools and hostdev networks

2018-03-17 Thread ultrabit
I have the same problem using raw lvm logical volumes as disk on Ubuntu 18.04.
When i try to start a vm with virt-manager qemu says Permission denied on
device.

The lvm uses device mapper to map the logical volumes so i need to
handle devices like

brw-rw 1 libvirt-qemu kvm  253,  4 mar 17 13:24 /dev/dm-4

After a bunch of failure attempts to start the vm machine, the following
steps was successful:

I run the aa-logprof (apparmor-utils package) util to update the apparmor
profiles using the syslog, and
i add the following line in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu

...
  /dev/dm* krw,

just before the /dev/net/tun rw, line.

If the line already exists just replace "rw" with "krw" to permit file
lock operations.

Now it seems vm runs well again.

Hi Olivier,

sorry for my slow reply - am writing from another machine at present.
Will post the results of that test in the next day or so, but in the
meantime stopped by to report the following:

The other day I spent an hour in Chromium on the laptop on which I'd
reported this issue, and for reasons I'm not sure of, the screen didn't
flicker! Will do some more testing and report back.

Ta,

Some strings of GNOME Shell are untranslated in the Czech translation on

manually translate them on launchpad, I get this error: "number of

%d minute ago
%d minutes ago

%d hour ago
%d hours ago

%d week ago
%d weeks ago
