[Bug 1945749] Re: [nvidia] Xorg freeze

2021-10-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unfortunately none of those crashes are related to the display.

Since all the evidence we have so far is that this is some silent
graphics freeze, I would recommend trying to uninstall the Nvidia 470
driver and install 460 instead, in the 'Additional Drivers' app.

[Bug 1945749] Re: [nvidia] Xorg freeze

2021-10-04 Thread Baris Basturk
My previous laptop (Dell Precision 5530, Ubuntu 20.04) was using the
Nouveau display drivers If I remember correctly before switching to Dell
Precision 5550 and I had same sort of crashes. If this bug is really
related to graphics driver, which I'm not so sure at this point to be
honest, I suspect that it will also happen when I switch to 460.

I will switch to 460 just to be sure.

Thanks.

[Bug 1945694] Re: Sync 1.11.1-2 for impish

2021-10-04 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
From Sergio (for the technical interested):

Just as a data point, the problem is that in a code such as this one:

  static force_inline void
  memmove_movnt_avx512f(char *dest, const char *src, size_t len, flush_fn flush,
barrier_fn barrier)
  {
if ((uintptr_t)dest - (uintptr_t)src >= len)
memmove_movnt_avx512f_fw(dest, src, len, flush);
else
memmove_movnt_avx512f_bw(dest, src, len, flush);

barrier();

VALGRIND_DO_FLUSH(dest, len);
  }

you can see that the function received a function pointer called
"barrier", which supposedly is that should get called when "barrier();"
is invoked, but due to (a) "barrier" being also a macro (defined as
'#define barrier() asm volatile("" ::: "memory")'), and (b) the
GCC preprocessor running before the actual compilation phase, we end up
with the code executing the "asm volatile" operation instead of calling
the function pointer provided.

You can reproduce this locally with:

--8<---cut here---start->8---
#include

#define foo() printf ("Called the macro.\n");

static void
myfoo ()
{
  printf ("Called the myfoo function.\n");
}

static void
callfoo (void (*foo) ())
{
  foo ();
}

int
main ()
{
  callfoo (myfoo);
}

[Bug 1771740] Re: Expose link offload options

2021-10-04 Thread Lukas Märdian
I am generally +1 with SRUing this, BUT this is a special in a few ways:

1/ In order to land this in Focal, we first need to apply it to Impish
and Hirsute (according to SRU process), as ddstreet mentioned.

2/ We are already post Feature Freeze for Impish and this is adding new
functionality IMO (in contrast to fixing a bug). So I wonder if we'd
need a Feature Freeze exception – that should be clarified with the
release team.

3/ The debdiff looks good to me at first glance, BUT: We need to also
inject the "gboolean ignore_carrier" field into the "net_definition"
struct before the new offload fields (i.e. parse.h change from this
commit
https://github.com/canonical/netplan/commit/d4884cfd40e1e33540b274371c3272df6595d22c).
Otherwise this patch will break ABI compatibility once the next upstream
release would be SRUed...

[Bug 1945947] [NEW] xpinstall.signatures.required no longer works

2021-10-04 Thread KOLANICH
Public bug reported:

`xpinstall.signatures.required` used to be working for allowing addons
not signed by Mozilla to be installed into release builds of Firefox
from Ubuntu packages (it doesn't work for release builds of Firefox for
Windows because of Mozilla policy, but linux distros used to be applying
patches and using the right defines at compile time to fix that), but it
is no longer the case.

I'd also be fine to know what has caused that.

Sorry for the confusion, The list changed after I applied an update.
After this update I logged with "ubuntu" (wayland) but the dot was still

So now everything is fine but it was confusing maybe this case can be

[Bug 1945961] [NEW] mininet's pingall doesn't work correctly with iputils-ping and locale different to English

2021-10-04 Thread Santiago Ruano Rincon
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04
Codename:   focal

mininet version 2.2.2-5ubuntu1, but also tested with 2.3.0-1ubuntu1 from
impish.

mininet is not able to parse the ping output in a localised environment,
for languages other than English. For example, this is running on
fr_FR.UTF-8:

$ sudo mn
*** Creating network
*** Adding controller
*** Adding hosts:
h1 h2
*** Adding switches:
s1
*** Adding links:
(h1, s1) (h2, s1)

I can workaround the problem with LANG=C:

[Bug 1945913] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.26-0ubuntu0.20.04.3 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127

2021-10-04 Thread Paride Legovini
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The bug description shows two errors:

 /var/lib/dpkg/info/mysql-server-8.0.postinst: linha 191: /usr/share/
mysql-common/configure-symlinks: Arquivo ou diretório inexistente
 dpkg: error processing package mysql-server-8.0 (--configure):

MySQLConf.etc.mysql.my.cnf: Error: [Errno 40] Muitos níveis de links
simbólicos: '/etc/mysql/my.cnf'

The second may be a consequence of the first: as the configure-symlinks
script is missing the system may have a bad/broken symlink setup. The
configure-symlinks script is installed by the mysql-common package,
which is a direct (pre-)dependency of mysql-server-8.0, so the script
should really be there.

It seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem
(configure-symlinks manually renamed/removed), rather than a bug in
Ubuntu, so I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. If indeed this is a local
configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort
of problem here: https://ubuntu.com/support/community-support.

If you still think this is a bug in Ubuntu then please comment back
explaining your reasoning, possibly providing steps to reproduce from a
fresh Ubuntu system, and we'll look at this again. Thanks!

[Bug 1945960] Re: net-snmp: Fail to build against OpenSSL 3.0

2021-10-04 Thread Simon Chopin
** Description changed:

  Hello,

  As part of a rebuild against OpenSSL3, this package failed to build on one or
- several architectures. You can find the details of the rebuild at
+ several architectures. You can find the details of the rebuild at

  https://people.canonical.com/~schopin/rebuilds/openssl-3.0.0-impish.html

  or for the amd64 failed build, directly at

https://launchpad.net/~schopin/+archive/ubuntu/openssl-3.0.0/+build/22099172/+files/buildlog_ubuntu-
  impish-amd64.net-snmp_5.9+dfsg-3ubuntu2.0~ssl3ppa1.1_BUILDING.txt.gz

  We're planning to transition to OpenSSL 3.0 for the 22.04 release, and
consider
  this issue as blocking for this transition.

  You can find general migration informations at
  https://www.openssl.org/docs/manmaster/man7/migration_guide.html
  For your tests, you can build against libssl-dev as found in the PPA
  schopin/openssl-3.0.0

- The issue has been reported upstream, without any resolution so far as the
problem seems
- to be with legacy algorithms support. Perhaps the proper fix would be to
remove support
- for those altogether from the package?
+ The build issue seen in the logs seems fixed upstream, see
+
https://github.com/net-snmp/net-snmp/commit/19e75743173cb8d49d49fd685b8e0249e83cc820
+
+ However, there might be a bigger underlying issue with regards to
+ legacy algorithms:

  https://github.com/net-snmp/net-snmp/issues/294

https://github.com/openssl/openssl/blob/master/doc/man7/migration_guide.pod#legacy-algorithms

All explicit tests for this completed successfully

The same builds (but in PPA) were not showing in general regression-
tests before so I have not re-tested that again.

Overall I consider this verified and update the tags.

[Bug 1945794] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer should not depend on ubuntu-advantage-tools

2021-10-04 Thread Paride Legovini
Hello Max and thanks for this bug report.

I don't think there's anything that could be done about this on the
ubuntu-advantage-tools side, as the dependency is in the other
direction, so I'm marking the u-a-t task as Invalid.

I had a look at the update-manager-core and at first glance it seems to
me that the current implementation of the check for UA being enabled
should handle ua being absent, so the Depends *could* maybe be relaxed
to a Recommends, with extra care. In any case this is almost certainly
not SRU material.

** Changed in: ubuntu-advantage-tools (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

[Bug 1945295] Re: E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

2021-10-04 Thread Paride Legovini
I had a look to that gist; the steps look mostly sane (still not to be
applied blindly I'd say), however they are not safe for corner cases, as
Sergio's comment points out.

Without steps to reproduce or at least the full system logs it's
difficult to guess what may have happened. At the moment there's little
we can do to investigate the problem.

This is actually, for my understanding, a bug in Vitis AI 1.3.2 code,

2021-10-04 Thread Didier Roche
Thanks for reporting this bug and help making ubuntu better.

10_linux_zfs is supposed to be able to track ext4 /boot and handling it
correctly (via looking at fstab and others).

What would be interesting is to print your fstab, if we miss anything by
any chance. Also, can you set -x on top of 10_linux_zfs and print the
logs here?

2021-10-04 Thread Amrit Singh
Hi All,
Please try with the EnableBrightnessControl =1 as kernel parameter or add it in
xorg.conf file.
You can add it in device section as shown below -

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
BoardName "NVIDIA RTX A3000 Laptop GPU"
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
EndSection

After change in the xorg, please uninstall / install the driver.

[Bug 1929926] Re: [UBUNTU 21.10] qemu: target/s390x: Fix translation exception on illegal instruction

2021-10-04 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi again,
I know it is prio-low for everyone, but still thanks for your patience!
Plenty of other things now finally are out of the way, so I tried to test the
current broken'ness of this before starting a SRU.

1. Create a s390x KVM guest, for example via, but not limited to:
$ uvt-kvm create --password=ubuntu testguest release=focal arch=s390x
label=daily
# Note: do so with the various qemu versions that are to be tested.

In my example I had
Focal: 1:4.2-3ubuntu6.17
Hirsute: 1:5.2+dfsg-9ubuntu3.1

2. In that guest prep the load so kindly outlined in comment #3 (slightly
adapted to match)
Note you have to run those as root
# prereq
$ apt install binutils
# define probe
$ echo "r:bash_readline /usr/bin/bash:0x$(nm -D /usr/bin/bash | awk '/T
readline$/ {print $1}')" > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/uprobe_events

# check if the probe is active and enable it
$ cat /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/uprobe_events
r:uprobes/bash_readline /usr/bin/bash:0x000dd250
$ echo 1 >/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/uprobes/bash_readline/enable

# Start bash to trigger some traces
$ /usr/bin/bash -c 'echo $BASH_VERSION'
5.0.17(1)-release

# Check if traces happened
$ cat /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/trace
root@testguest2:~# cat /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/trace
# tracer: nop
#
# entries-in-buffer/entries-written: 2/2   #P:1
#

bash-1653[000] d...   555.642396: bash_readline: (0x2aa377b590e
<- 0x2aa3785d250)

So far this just works, I see the uretprobes happening in the trace.
But neither my test bash nor the one that I'm in logged into the guest
crashed/stopped in any way.
This is true for both tested qemu versions.

Is this only affecting emulated s390x?
Is there something else I miss to recreate this?

[Bug 1831449] Re: memory in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests fails (clflushopt / clwb ABSENT)

2021-10-04 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
When comparing the Focal 5.4 generic AMD64 kernel test output and Focal
5.4 KVM AMD64 kernel test output, you can see the generic kernel will
pass with:

 PASS: clflush (present)
 PASS: sfence (present)
 PASS: lfence (present)
 PASS: mfence (present)
 PASS: clflushopt (ABSENT)
 PASS: clwb (ABSENT)
 PASS: invalid clwb
 PASS: pcommit (ABSENT)
 SUMMARY: 8 tests
 PASS memory (8 tests)

Instead the KVM kernel will fail with:
 FAIL: clflushopt (ABSENT)
 FAIL: clwb (ABSENT)

I wonder what's the difference here.

[Bug 1945972] [NEW] cgexec fails on impish, group2 support seems lacking

[Bug 1945842] Re: Newer kernel still has no display w/ KMS enabled

2021-10-04 Thread Roger James
I am also seeing this after an automatic update from linux-
image-5.11.0-1017-raspi to linux-image-5.11.0-1019-raspi. The display
output is lost very early on in the boot process.

The only way I could get round it was to roll the kernel back to
5.11.0-2017.

I added ubuntu-advantage-tools package to this bug expecting pressure
from that side to issue an urgent update of update-manager-core to LTS.
It is sour that dependency added in *LTS update* can not be corrected to
a more flexible value in a following update.

I am going to try whether installing a package from Debian may be a workaround.
Anyway updates of mscorefonts are unlikely.

[Bug 1945974] [NEW] systemctl hibernate not write the contents of the RAM into swap partition or swapfile. le

2021-10-04 Thread geole0
Public bug reported:

Hello
I see that the systemctl hibernate command does not write the contents of the
nvram in the swap partition (or in the swap file). This is also true in version
21.04

There is therefore no restart with the recovered data. Worse, when
restarting, the partition is not in good condition. The FSCK command
automatically repairs the partition structure.

I work around the problem with the sudo hibernate command which calls
the S2DISK process, but it doesn't work if using a swap file and is only
present for LTS versions!

Please tell me the correct method to use.
