[Bug 1794942] [NEW] UIF exception: GtkPopover, GtkMenu and GtkSwitch styling
Public bug reported: We would like to adapt the styling of GtkPopover and GtkMenu to the styling of GNOME shell popups in the yaru theme. Reasoning why this is necessary: 1) The current Yaru theme has three different menu colors: a) in the light yaru gtk theme with light menus/popovers, b) in the dark yaru gtk theme with gray menus/popovers and c) in the only gnome shell yaru theme with almost black ("jet") popups This argument was found in a request by matthewpaulthomas (https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/847) 2) This would make the transition for Ubuntu users more smooth when their desktop changes from ambiance to yaru because the ambiance menus were dark even if - or basically because - the ambiance window styling was light resulting in ... 3) A usability improvement due to a better contrast for the light yaru gtk theme between almost black menus and almost white windows and also for the dark theme, between gray windows and almost black menus 2) and 3) were found in a request by marco trevisian, which appreciated the usability of the Ambiance menus A before/after picture is attached to this bug, but more pictures can be found in the github pull request: https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/pull/876 Also, we would like to include a fix into cosmic, which changes the colors of GtkSwitch in the yaru dark theme in the backdrop (when the window is not focused) https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/pull/874 This is a bug fix because we have forgotten to style the switches correctly. ** Affects: yaru-theme (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "yaru_dark_gtk_menus_before_after.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1794942/+attachment/5193978/+files/yaru_dark_gtk_menus_before_after.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1794942 Title: UIF exception: GtkPopover, GtkMenu and GtkSwitch styling To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1794942/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1862056] [NEW] Theme: use other exported colors
Public bug reported: Adwaita and Yaru both export colors at the top of their CSS file from within this source files: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/blob/master/gtk/theme/Adwaita/_colors-public.scss#L84 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/blob/gtk-3-24/gtk/theme/Adwaita/_colors-public.scss gnome-software uses some of those colors in their in-app CSS that overwrites the global gtk theme: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/blob/master/src/gtk-style.css Most likely those are the correct colors. In three cases sadly not and it is too late to get an upstream change for 20.04 now because gnome is already in UI freeze for this cycle: 1) The round checkmarks inside the App boxes that show that the app is installed are orange instead of green, which is semantically wrong since they are not selected and should instead show that you successfully installed that app: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/blob/master/src/gtk-style.css#L12 Change .installed-icon { color: @theme_selected_bg_color; } to .installed-icon { color: @success_color; } https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/blob/gtk-3-24/gtk/theme/Adwaita/_colors-public.scss#L84 -> exported to: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/blob/gtk-3-24/gtk/theme/Adwaita/gtk-contained.css#L2021 2) The little [1] boxes inside the "stackswitcher" in the headerbar (it's actually a buttonbox in this case, but this is offtopic) that show up if you are either installing X apps or have X updates would be orange, if we would not "hack" a bg box-shadow over them to make them green. This is first of all a dirty hack and secondly there are little orange pixels showing up at the rounding Change .counter-label { ... ... background-color: mix(@theme_selected_bg_color, @theme_selected_fg_color, 0.3); ... ... ... } To .counter-label { ... ... background-color: @success_color; ... ... ... } https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/blob/master/src/gtk-style.css#L422 3) The "given" stars are not visible in both Adwaita and Yaru dark. For some reason, upstream transparentizes them into oblivion with the "shade-function". The enabled stars should just use the theme's fg color: Change .star-enabled, .star-enabled:disabled { color: shade(@theme_fg_color, 0.8); } to .star-enabled, .star-enabled:disabled { color: @theme_fg_color; } https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/blob/master/src/gtk-style.css#L412 Thank you very much in advance! [Bug 1762205] Re: GNOME boxes fails to start virtual os
I am also affected by this - ubuntu 18.04 - but "upgraded"/updated continuously from beta 1) There seems to be packages missing after installing gnome-boxes, these ones were not installed so I installed them AFTER I installed gnome-boxes: sudo apt-get install qemu qemu-kvm libvirt-bin 2) I can't start the VM and have the same issue as described above. The fix with adding group=kvm and adding me to the kvm group works for me, too! Maybe there are "some lines missing" in the installation process of gnome-boxes? [Bug 1899731] [NEW] Yaru gtk and icon update for focal backported from groovy
Public bug reported: [Impact] * Focal users will soon have their yaru themes mismatched in snaps and debs * yaru-theme-gtk and yaru-theme-icon includes changes for button sizes in groovy, gtk-common-themes will be updated with the updated yaru- theme-gtk so groovies debs and snaps look consistent but this will leave focal deb and snaps incosistent, so focals debs also need an update. * Backporting the yaru gtk theme from groovy to focal will fix this, the SHELL theme (yaru-theme-gnome-shell) however should NOT be backported, because the gnome shell version is different and thus the JavaScript components of gnome-shell would then not match the theme any more. [Bug 1898141] Re: Padding in all buttons regressed and is much bigger
Hello everyone, this is not a design decision but a fix for many padding issues in apps across the desktop we've had with the slimmer padding. A design decision was to use the small padding in the beginning of yaru. Which sadly doesn't work even after we've put the metric vars into adwaita, because noone is using them. We can't fix the padding from our side. Because apps use the upstream padding for custom widgets which we can not theme. They literally look it up in adwaita, then reapply it in their in app CSS which we cannot always overwrite. But the pr Carlo linked links to the issues which have pictures in it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1898141 Title: Padding in all buttons regressed and is much bigger To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1898141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1898141] Re: Padding in all buttons regressed and is much bigger
To be concrete 1) there is the "button" widget in gtk. You can style it in your global css like Adwaita or Yaru by styling button { padding: ... ; } Sometimes gtk apps use custom widgets that are either not buttons, or their styling is styled in the IN-APP css. This means that often we are locked out. The gtk devs can decide if their styling can be overwritten by the global css theme or not. Sadly, often you can NOT overwrite it in the global css. So gtk app devs use a custom widget and LOOK up the exact padding (in pixels or em) in the Adwaita upstream gtk, because this is their reference. Then they put this exact padding in their in-app css and stuff like this is happening: https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/2360 https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/2357 This also means, that everytime a gtk app introduces a new widget that is not covered by the global upstream CSS theme (which yaru copies 90%, except colors and the dark headerbar), a different padding than the upstream padding automatically breaks the app (and only if the app devs allows it, you can overwrite it). 2) I hope you do not misunderstand the current problem with gnome-clocks and gnome-web having a completely stretched headerbar, this happens with and without slim or adwaita padding. Also please open such discussion issues on github. This is the wrong place. ** Bug watch added: github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues #2360 https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/2360 ** Bug watch added: github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues #2357 https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/2357 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1898141 Title: Padding in all buttons regressed and is much bigger To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1898141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1899731] Re: Yaru gtk and icon update for focal backported from groovy
Correspongind PR: https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/pull/2456 ** Description changed: [Impact] * Focal users will soon have their yaru themes mismatched in snaps and debs - * yaru-theme-gtk and yaru-theme-icon includes changes for button sizes - in groovy, gtk-common-themes will be updated with the updated yaru- - theme-gtk so groovies debs and snaps look consistent but this will leave - focal deb and snaps incosistent, so focals debs also need an update. + * yaru-theme-gtk aincludes changes for button sizes in groovy, gtk- + common-themes will be updated with the updated yaru-theme-gtk so + groovies debs and snaps look consistent but this will leave focal deb + and snaps incosistent, so focals debs also need an update. * Backporting the yaru gtk theme from groovy to focal will fix this, the SHELL theme (yaru-theme-gnome-shell) however should NOT be backported, because the gnome shell version is different and thus the JavaScript components of gnome-shell would then not match the theme any more. The icon theme however, can also be backported if wanted [Test Case] * Update gtk-common-themes from https://gitlab.gnome.org/Community/Ubuntu/gtk-common- themes/-/jobs/937763/artifacts/browse in focal and see how gtk debs like nautilus look different in button sizing than snap-store aka ubuntu software - * install the https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/releases/tag/20.10.6.1 and - see how now the deb and snaps look the same + * install the yaru from https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/pull/2456 and see + how now the deb and snaps look the same [Regression Potential] * no regression potential unless the gnome shell theme is also - backported which should NOT happen, and we need to exclude the changes - to the nautilus pathbar. + backported which should NOT happen [Other Info] * The updates were necessary for groovy, because having gtk3 themes with different button sizes than adwaita creates issues with sizes, see https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/pull/2361 for further issues linked ** Summary changed: - Yaru gtk and icon update for focal backported from groovy + [SRU] Backport button metric changes from groovy to focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1899731 Title: [SRU] Backport button metric changes from groovy to focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1899731/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1883438] [NEW] Gtk theme link_color is not beeing used
Public bug reported: In the "softwar updater" UI the color of links is not taken from the Gtk theme. Yaru and Adwaita themes both "export" a "@theme_link_color" at the top of their gtk theme. The software manager UI should also use this link color. Especially in the yaru-dark theme the blue that is actually used has a very bad contrast against the background. Please look at the screenshot where I have compared the software updater to the about dialogue in files (which uses the correct $link_color, which can be selected as "@theme_link_color" in gtk apps). Public bug reported: After a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 installation, the suspend is not "deep" but it is "idle". Deep is very important, otherwise the laptop/notebook might over heat (!) if you put it into a sleeve or bag while suspended. Which happened to my notebook. [Bug 1872108] Re: Bass not on working Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen running focal
Sadly this is the only big bummer when using the x1 carbon 2019 with Ubuntu - totally looking forward to this, as it also affects me. The temp. fix also works for me, but only for 1 session, after reboot or coming out of suspend, I need to re-apply it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872108 Title: Bass not on working Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen running focal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-ucm-conf/+bug/1872108/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1827948] [NEW] Use libreoffice-style-breeze as the default icon theme
Public bug reported: The Yaru icon theme uses 1 pixel strokes for its symbolic icon set. So do the breeze icons for libreoffice. All in all does the breeze icon set for libre office fit very good to the look of the Yaru icons. https://i.imgur.com/tgioycv.png https://i.imgur.com/WwKvjMh.png Thus I would suggest to use it as the default icon set in Ubuntu to guarantee a consistent look and feel across the desktop ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827948 Title: Use libreoffice-style-breeze as the default icon theme To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1827948/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1788547] Re: gnome-shell notifications use Yaru theme even if Yaru is not selected
Hi there, you selected the application theme. This does not change the shell theme. As you said you need to switch the shell theme, too. This can not be done without the user-themes extension. Thus I would suggest to close this, since it is not an unexpected/bugged behaviour. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1788547 Title: gnome-shell notifications use Yaru theme even if Yaru is not selected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yaru-theme/+bug/1788547/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1789356] Re: Yaru purple background doesn't match the gnome-shell purple background in the login animation
That is very strange indeed. There is no specific styling for the second screen though. I thought that this was fixed with https://github.com/ubuntu/yaru/issues/583 But obviously not. [Bug 1789355] Re: Yaru login screen gradient contains visible steps
We already reduced the bands with this newer login screen. Previously we had a SVG with the gradient information which was then rendered by gnome shell. [Bug 1788547] Re: gnome-shell notifications use Yaru theme even if Yaru is not selected
But you still need the user-themes extension. If you install it, you switch to the themes installed. If you want to use the upstream gnome style experience I would suggest using the other session for this: sudo apt install gnome-session Then reboot and select the gnome session from the context menu that opens when you click the little gear symbol. Then you have adwaita gtk and shell theme out of the box.

[Bug 1748429] Re: Librroffice Snap uses the adwaita gtk theme and direct path to icon
GTK Community theme (https://github.com/Ubuntu/gtk-communitheme)- I see - changing to ambiance did the trick. Now the snap uses the ambiance gtk theme. The theme matching works only for ambiance? ___ Regarding the icons, most debs - if not all - use the free desktop spec. And it works very well with Humanity icon set (which inherits hicolor in it's index) 99% of the apps work with relative icon paths, even if they are snaps.
