[Bug 314566] Re: gdm/xdm/kdm crash if running two card setup

2009-02-23 Thread Mal
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 267241 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267241

Hi. I was running a three-monitor setup with two nVidia cards (7950GT
and 7300GS) and it worked okay, but when I upgraded to a 8600GT and
swapped out the 7300GS with the 7950GT, I started having problems.

After playing around with it a bit, X actually does start but starting
any X program makes it crash (and the program segfaults). xeyes and
xedit still work, but anything else I've tried to start makes everything
crash.

I believe I'm having the same problem here. Is this perhaps a problem
when combining two separate series nVidia GPUs? (ie: 7000 series with
8000 or 9000, etc)

I'm using the Hardy version of Xorg right now because it works just
fine, for some reason, while the Intrepid version does not. If needed, I
can upgrade back for the purpose of providing log files from the crash.

Also, I don't think this is a duplicate of #267241. I've been through
the process of setting the busid and had it working previously with two
same-series nVidia GPUs.

[Bug 296167] Re: X.org will intermittently stop responding to mouse clicks on Ibex with Xinerama

2008-11-28 Thread Mal
I've been experiencing this bug ever since I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10
from 8.04.

It seems to mostly be triggered by running 3D games after the game
quits, but has randomly happened a couple of times too.

I can get it to trigger in under a minute or so of starting/stopping a
game or other 3D app.

2008-11-20 Thread Mal
I'm getting this problem too. Just upgraded to Intrepid. Graphics driver
is nVidia 177.80. I'm also running a Xinerama setup with two graphics
cards and three monitors.

The problem occurs about 50% of the time when I run a game (Quake 3,
etc) after it quits. It's also happening with my own project that uses
OIS for input from a joystick, but doesn't initialize any mouse input.
It stops happening when I remove the input code from the project
entirely.

Worked fine in Hardy. Started having problems when I upgraded to
Intrepid.

I switched from Xinerama to Twinview and the reported issues have gone

but at least my machine is usable again.

I have (or had) three monitors across two graphics cards, and Twinview
only supports two monitors on one card.

when combining two separate series nVidia GPUs?

[Bug 55739] Re: No more mouse events after using rdesktop

I have (or had) three monitors across two graphics cards, and Twinview

[Bug 372575] Re: [ubuntu jaunty] Blue Screen (w. death) on intel-video

2009-05-15 Thread Mal Gamble
I have a similar problem with my Mythtv frontend. This is a Compaq
Deskpro Pentium III system with on-board Intel i810 video with reference
number 8086:1132.

When I try to watch TV with Mythtv, I just get a blue screen. Sound
works correctly and it responds keypresses, so I can back out of TV mode
and shut the system down normally.

I've tried various changes to xorg.conf and tried reverting to xserver-
xorg-video-intel-2.4, with no change to the symptons.

I have not figured out how to revert to an earlier version of the intel
driver. The frontend works well under Hardy.

[Bug 232325] Re: nfs-client

2008-07-11 Thread Mal Gamble
I really don't understand why this issue has not received more attention
from other users. This bug seriously degrades the usefulness of autofs
on Hardy. Maybe not many people use autofs?

To make sure I didn't have some particular problem with the computer I
found the problem with, I installed Hardy on another machine that I was
still running on Gutsy and found exactly the same issue.

Surely the one of the big advantages of autofs is to be able to
automount shares that are not always available, so if it chokes the
system when it the server is not available, it's not much use.

I hope someone else can share some experience on this problem.

[Bug 234480] [NEW] autofs hangs when server unavailable

2008-05-23 Thread Mal Gamble
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nfs-common

When using autofs in Hardy to automount nfs shares, lengthy hangs occur
if the target server is not available. This causes nautilus (and the
desktop) to hang at login and when opening. The problem seems to
originate with changed behaviour of mount.nfs. When attempting to mount
a non-existent server export, Gutsy returns in about 3 seconds with the
"No route to host" message, Hardy takes about 40 seconds and returns an
"internal error". This results in lengthy delays if there are multiple
autofs connections to be attempted. These behaviours are shown below:

[Bug 278790] Re: Rhythmbox Coherence UPnP doesn't work.

2008-12-14 Thread Mal Gamble
Unfortunately, I have not been able to duplicate John's success on my
Intrepid system. I followed the instructions above and after I fix the
"import louie" line and run Rhythmbox, I get no messages about Coherence
and no sign of any shared music. This was using the python-coherence
package from the repositories, with the latest plug-in files as per
JontyNotes.

[Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

I am seeing this problem with the updated nfs-common package in Hardy.

[Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2008-08-07 Thread Mal Gamble
Actually, I think this bug is related to problem with mount.nfs trying
to mount an export on a non-existent server. See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nfs-utils/+bug/234480.

This problem has appeared in Ubuntu Hardy but not in Gutsy.

By the way, I don't see why a design flaw couldn't be a bug. (I think
Microsoft would call a design flaw a "feature") :-)

[Bug 154000] Re: kubuntu dist upgrade tool crashed

2008-03-01 Thread Mal Miller
I have installed Kubuntu 7.10 twice, both times Adept offered a version
upgrade and both times it failed. The software asked me to report an
error in 'update-manager' and made reference to the files /var/log/dist-
upgrade/ . I noticed that Ken Mitchell reported an identical error
some months ago, so I am hoping that this bug will have been fixed by
now.

These behaviours are shown below:

following error message appears in /var/log/syslog after an unsuccessful
attempt to suspend from the gdm login screen:

The SuspendCommand setting in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf looks OK to me.

The Shutdown option on the gdm login screen works fine.
