[Bug 462393] Re: [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in
Could someone please help me with this, or let me know what further information I need to provide? I should add that if I start up the laptop without an external display attached, and then try to attach one, it freezes the whole laptop, necessitating a hard power down (and I can't ssh to the laptop from another computer on my home network). This is REALLY annoying, and the kind of thing that makes me have second thoughts about having switched from windows. For all its faults, at least windows didn't fully crash when I plugged in an external monitor (which I do alot with the laptop!). As a workaround to this problem, I have to fully shutdown the computer, and then start the computer with whatever external monitor plugged in. -- [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 462393] [NEW] [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I'm running Karmic, 9.10, on a Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop, using an Intel driver (see lspci output below). My computer is completely freezing under two circumstances: 1. I connect an external monitor after the laptop is already booted up 2. If I boot the laptop with an external monitor attached, it works properly (output is to external monitor, not to laptop display). However, if I attempt to switch between the external monitor and laptop display using the Fn-F7 hotkey, it will switch to displaying on both displays. If I hit Fn-F7 again the laptop freezes. No ctrl+alt+backspace/esc/delete/Fxx does anything. I have to hard power down Note -- if I properly turn off the external monitor (using system- preferences-display), I can disconnect it just fine and use the laptop display. If I then attempt to plug in a DIFFERENT external monitor, I get the same behavior as in 1. From reading around, it looks as though this is related to the xserver- xorg-video-intel package, and that people have had similar experiences. I list this as a new bug because it seems I'm having slightly different behavior, and with different hardware. sudo lspci [sudo] password for sdavis: 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: external fn freezes hotkeys monitor ** Summary changed: - Computer freezes when external monitor is plugged in + [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in -- [Karmic] Sony Vaio VGN-C260E laptop freezes when external monitor is plugged in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462393 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1165266] Re: missing keyboard shortcuts
I've created the following merge request which will address some of these complaints: https://code.launchpad.net/~smd-seandavis/xubuntu-default-settings /keyboard-shortcuts/+merge/182352 It seems there has already been some discussion, but I'll add some additional information. Xf86Launch1,2,3,etc vary across keyboard makers, so we cannot add a specific shortcut to any of these. XF86WebCam: We do not currently provide a webcam application in Xubuntu, and creating an application to offer installation of one would be additional development work, so it would be a wishlist item for sure. Your ToggleTouchpad script does seem like it would be useful, please consider proposing it for 14.04 (we're already well beyond feature freeze for 13.10) Similar to the ToggleTouchpad script, consider proposing your suspend script for 14.04. As Pasi suggested, you may wish to start a wiki page for these features so that we may more easily discuss and include these improvements.
