[Bug 442078] Re: Buttons in Eclipse not working correctly with GTK+ 2.18.1-1

2009-10-19 Thread Cos Costa
The issue is not solved yet. Using Karmic 64bit.

Of course it might be possible to quickfix by using a env-variable.
At the end it harms the ubuntu-experience thou.
Especially as eclipse is used quite a bit in the community it
will be more then a LOW prio paper-cut.

The result is simply: Eclipse does not work right in the new ubuntu version.
Not: Of course, my mistake I did not set the variable

cheers

[Bug 449260] Re: empathy needs a persistent new message indicator

2009-11-13 Thread Costa Tsaousis
+1 vote for blinking. Give this option to the user, even if it is off by
default.

Many of us have very busy screens. If it doesn't blink we will not
notice the new chat messages. The way it is now, it is either useless or
very annoying (I receive at least 10 calls per day from people asking
did you get my message?, why don't you respond to chats?).

Please fix it.

Thanks.

PS: By the way, the URL posted above for discussion gives an error.

[Bug 464639] Re: alc660-vd no sound after upgrade kubuntu 9.10

2009-11-05 Thread jefferson costa
ok, solved!!!
remembering The update manager identified some updates, but blocked the
avaliable new kernel (don't know why). Then i get all the avaliable updates
(including new kernel) by using synaptic (i like synaptic) when i restarted
the grub2 was prompting. I tried so many ways to restore the grub, i was almost
about giving up. And made another big mistake= blacked the files : stage1,
stage2 and grub.cfg. The solution: i installed a new kubuntu in other
partition and copy and paste those files to my old partition, Then run : grub
=root=setup and get works without sound. I remembered all this mistakes
today when I read your response end reinstall grub2, the grub2 put the correct
kernel and the sound came.

thank you for help and sorry for wrong sentences.

[Bug 399829] Re: [i945GM] display corruption when moving desktop windows

2009-07-15 Thread Guido Costa
It's not a big deal ;)

In your terminal type ubuntu-bug -p xserver-xorg-video-intel and it's
done!

I was talking with Sarvatt (https://launchpad.net/~sarvatt) on IRC, he's
member of the Ubuntu-X team and told me that this is a known bug in the
latest kernel release and it will be fixed on 2.6.31-4 or maybe 2.6.31-5
kernel's version.

This bug hit people on certain chipsets with oddball combinations of
dual channel memory running at certain speeds, but its a known problem
and a fix is already out and testing.

We've to wait... :)

Thanks Sebastien!
I'm using Gnome and i know that i can submit bugs with the crash
information, but in this bug there's no .crash file in /var/crash, neither
an apport window pops up. it's pretty weird.
How can i proceed to submit it?

Thanks again!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport
report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic
 retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
 apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the
crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
 /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash
in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to
 report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 279909] [NEW] Using gnome-appearance-properties to switch from Normal to None desktop effect also changes from Ubuntu default sound theme to freedesktop sound theme in Intrepid Beta

2008-10-07 Thread Carlos Costa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Hello folks,

I'm testing Intrepid beta. I did the installation and the first package
update. After the well successful installation, I turned off the desktop
effects by using gnome-appearance-properties to switch from Normal to
None effects, then I realized that disabling effects also changes the
default Ubuntu sound theme (the awesome drums sound) to the freedesktop
sound theme (default gnome theme, I presume).

Steps to validate the bug:

1. Click on System - Preferences - Appearance
2. Go to Visual Effects tab
3. Select option None
4. Close the window
5. Restart X Server (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace), you will be back to GDM
6. Proceed with the login as usual, you will hear a different welcome sound
(not the drums sound).

And to turn back the Ubuntu sound theme, do it:

1. Click on System - Preferences - Appearance
2. Go to Visual Effects tab
3. Select option Normal effect
4. Close the window
5. Restart X Server (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace), you will be back to GDM
6. Proceed with the login as usual and the drums sound from Ubuntu default
theme will be back.

Output of lsb_release -rd:
Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)
Release:8.10

[Bug 80325] Network-admin cannot set right parameters for static IP connection, or switching locations

2007-01-17 Thread Stefano Costa

On Feisty, there are problems with latest gnome-system-tools network-
admin.

I cannot switch between locations, just because when I try to apply a
saved location, it segfaults with

Segmentation fault (core dumped).

Furthermore, the network applet shows settings that are different from
those that ifconfig outputs. Running network-config --configure eth1
shows the IP/mask/gateway panel but it has no effect when applied (e.g.
the old good bar saying wait for changes to be applied), and typed
changes have no effect.

A new roaming mode checkbox instead of the old leave this device

[Bug 71056] Re: Please backport kdesvn 0.11.0 to Breezy, Dapper and Edgy

2006-11-30 Thread Cos Costa
don't know if unconfirmed is the best status to mark the bug / backport
request, because the actual kdesvn version totaly breaks konqueror in edgy.
It crashes konqueror every so often or throws DCop or wrong menu-Entries
(Exportto/Checkoutto) in the
/usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/kdesvn_subversion.desktop file.

It all happens on right clicks in konqueror. This is no bearable state
letting ppl wonder what the error is or uninstall kdesvn to make
konqueror usable.

IMHO this needs to be fixed ASAP. No security, but a big usability bug.

PLus, in the computer nautilus window, it's shown as not mounted.

Under /media I found 3 folders: disk, disk-1 and disk-2, and all were
the same and contained my usb drive content. There is no visual way to
unmount the drive, so I had to unmount it (3 times!) from the CLI.

I don't know what package this depends on, but it needs fixing for sure.
Thanks!

[Bug 71855] out-dated kdesvn causing problems

3.5.5 (dapper/edgy) ...

It's all working fine in gnome but in kde since 3.5.5 i get this grey

When having Suspend Option activated first thing that happens on login

handle the laptop lid right.

[Bug 48168] Re: unable to open X Input Method

2007-01-04 Thread Stefano Costa
I experience this bug also on Feisty.
I really would like to have data.entry commands working.

I noticed that this occurs on my laptop (Feisty), but not on my desktop
that is running a slightly non-upgraded version of Dapper (no ADSL at
home, too lazy).

I have some intuition it could be related to SCIM or something like
that.

Attached is output of ps aux | grep scim
The desktop has no scim application running as far as I can tell.

Someone on the #R channel suggested this could be related to some
setting in my .bashrc or .bash_profile (EDITOR) but other users on my
laptop face the same problem, also if I create new user.

When starting a presentation with OOo impress, nothing happens, the slide show

Then I tried this

 $ export XMODIFIERS=

and all data frame editing functions are working. I don't know where the
bug lies (SCIM itself? SCIM misconfiguration on behalf of Ubuntu?), but
at least for my case I have found the cause and a workaround.
The bad part is that everytime I login those variables are again set to the bad

This new version was released October 31, 2006 and it's considered the
only stable version by the upstream developers. GRASS 6.0.2 is tagged as
old by the GRASS development team.
Keeping for another 6 months an old version in the official repositories
doesn't make much sense IMHO.

This also would provide an easy answer to all those who ask Which is
the best GNU/Linux distro for running GRASS?.

[Bug 92693] openoffice 2.2 has a serious problem with font rendering in Ubuntu 7.04

2007-03-15 Thread Costa Matos
Public bug reported:

OpenOffice 2.2 became available on feisty repos, and along with it, a
serious font rendering issue that was present in 2.0 and corrected in
2.1.

The fonts look very bad, specially without antialiasing. To reproduce
the problem just start OpenOffice writer and disable antialiased fonts.

Here's a screenshot of the problem

http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/9799/screenshotdl3.png

Right you can see the BAD font rendering that plagued OOo 2.0 in Ubuntu, and
now seems to be present again in 2.2.
Left is OOo 2.1, that renders fonts correctly, as you can see.

[Bug 92693] Re: openoffice 2.2 has a serious problem with font rendering in Ubuntu 7.04

2007-03-17 Thread Costa Matos
Yes, that's a workaround, but it's a feisty-only problem. I just
installed OOo 2.2 RC3 on my Edgy machine and it's hasn't no problems
with font rendering.

[Bug 14692] Re: hal detects written DVD as empty

2007-03-20 Thread Carlos Costa
Hi,

I'm brazilian, so sorry for my bad english ; )

i'm using linux for a while and since the last month i'm running Ubuntu.
First was Dapper and then upgrade to Edgy Eft.

Everything was just fine until a couple of days ago. I tried to backup
my wedding dvd (sony dvd-r made in adobe encore with open session) and
the system tried to mount it without success and reconigzed it as a
blank disc. But the worst thing is that after that even windows and my
standalone player can read my dvd. It's damaged for good! I repeat: my
dvd-r became garbage after i tried to simply mount it under Ubuntu!!!

For my luck, there is a copy from my dvd i made with windows xp before
this awful episode...thanks god!

I can tell if this bug is present in Dapper because i never had the
chance to backup an open session dvd-r with Ubuntu before the related
attempt here.

I'd never believe such thing is possible and i think most of you too.
To me this kind of bug should be labled as critical.

Anyone had face something like what happened to me?

Cheers,
Carlos

[Bug 14692] Re: hal detects written DVD as empty

2007-03-22 Thread Carlos Costa
Hi, Martin

Well, maybe i became nuts!!!
But what i said was exactly what happened and not only with one dvd... i just
lost another copy from the same sony dvd-R brand while trying to mount it once
again in edgy eft yesterday.

And it's impossible that the disc was damaged before by dust, scratch
and others: i married 2 months ago!

I'm on windows now, but i'll try again later and let you guys know.

Wish me luck : (

Carlos

[Bug 87264] Re: upstream version in 6.2.1 please update

Sounds as a good compromise to me. The only important thing is that
people should be able to install GRASS without adding external
repositories and editing by hand source.list, I'm sure you get what I
mean
