[Bug 1274801] [NEW] enhancement request: don't exit scrollback mode on window size change
Public bug reported: when using screen via connectbot from android, the connectbot screen resizes frequently for numerous reasons (eg rotating the screen inadvertantly or autoenlargement of the keyboard to present word selection) and each such resize causes undesirable exit from scrollback mode. entering appropriate characters is an entirely sufficient method to exit scrollback mode. exit due to window resize is superflous and hindering, from this user's perspective, and could and should be removed. [Bug 1074454] [NEW] resize during insert problem
Public bug reported: resize during insert seems to cause a problem. to reproduce: create a textfile using the 21 lines of text given below. resize an xterm to 12 lines long and 80 characters wide. in the xterm, edit (vim) the textfile. position the cursor on the / preceeding vmlinuz, and type cB/ (with no escape)(still in insert mode) resize the xterm to 10 lines by 80 characters. vim is now in an inconsistent state. the first visible cue is the disappearance of text following the cursor. further inserted characters appear to insert on the wrong line. as things progress it may recover itself, or it may ABRT or SEGV. for example if at this point i hit Esc (end the insert) type :ls (with no CR) enlarge the window i get Vim: Caught deadly signal SEGV Vim: preserving files... and it hangs thus. textfile uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 uuid 960c92bd-69d3-415f-93b6-2242187e3557 kernel/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/vmlinuz quiet panic=30 method=hd:sda7: ksdevice= initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img initrd/SL-60-i386/Install-DVD/initrd.img /textfile $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.10 Release:12.10 $ apt-cache policy vim vim: Installed: 2:7.3.547-4ubuntu1 Candidate: 2:7.3.547-4ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2:7.3.547-4ubuntu1 0 500 http://ie.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: vim (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1074454 Title: resize during insert problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vim/+bug/1074454/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1071593] Re: quantal vlc segfaults or freezes
since my quantal vlc was hosed, i went and installed linux mint 13 xfce. vlc worked great on the liveCD, and worked great after install to hard disc. then i ran apt-get update. after that, maya(precise) vlc is hosed too. not doing padsp, just plain vlc. same problem as above, vlc display freezes. the sound works if i invoke vlc with a stream on the commandline. but the vlc display interface is frozen. other program displays (eg firefox) are fine. # uname -a Linux phovd 3.2.0-32-generic #51-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 26 21:32:50 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux # apt-cache policy vlc vlc: Installed: 2.0.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 Candidate: 2.0.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 Version table: *** 2.0.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/universe i386 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-security/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.0.1-4 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe i386 Packages -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071593 Title: quantal vlc segfaults or freezes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pulseaudio/+bug/1071593/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1074774] [NEW] vlc window gray after apt-get upgrade
Public bug reported: vlc was fine right after installing mint 13 xfce, but after apt-get upgrade, the vlc window isn't rendering properly. if i pass a stream on the vlc commandline the sound starts right up, just the vlc window is funky. when the vlc window comes to the front, the titlebar and all the menu titles show but the rest of the window is mostly gray. as i pass the mouse over the menu titles, the menu title under the mouse shows, and the rest of the menu titles disappear. if i click on a menu, at first the whole menu displays, then as i move the mouse onto the menu, the one or two items under the mouse show, and the rest go gray. other windows (eg firefox) are fine. i get the same vlc window problem under quantal. i split this off from Bug #1071593, that one is a padsp related segfault, this one is the vlc window frozen problem. $ apt-cache policy vlc vlc: Installed: 2.0.1-4 Candidate: 2.0.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 Version table: 2.0.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/universe i386 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-security/universe i386 Packages *** 2.0.1-4 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ uname -a Linux mint 3.2.0-23-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:41:14 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1074774 Title: vlc window gray after apt-get upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1074774/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1248224] [NEW] fsck scheduling problems
Public bug reported: problem 1: fsck column in /etc/fstab is flatly ignored. if the sysadm wants a particular order of events, she should be able to specify it and have it heeded. failing that, as a last resort, at least the fstab manpage should reflect reality. problem 2: fscks for partitions on the same disc were run simultaneously. is this efficient? bootup time took 2240 seconds. and when the sysadm went to the trouble to specify in fstab how to do it properly, this is annoying. problem 3: nobootwait was ignored. the root partition fsck had finished far earlier than others, and yet the bootup completion waited for the other fscks to complete. [Bug 1237188] [NEW] saucy botching network configuration
Public bug reported: saucy network configuration is behaving strangely. i've installed saucy via netboot, selecting openssh-server only. saucy netboot found and used my cable modem just fine, but the network configuration it installed does not find my cable modem. precise works fine, so i brought forward /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/udev/rules.d/70 -persistent-net.rules from precise. surprisingly, this didn't work. details below. precise properly obtains an address for eth0 from the cable modern. saucy doesn't, and inserts a bizarre local address instead. under precise, which works: precise$ uname -a Linux nana 3.2.0-41-lowlatency #45-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Fri Apr 26 11:06:24 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux precise$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:c7:d9:55:3f inet addr:71.195.45.129 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.252.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:576 Metric:1 RX packets:72876 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:45675 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:19570389 (19.5 MB) TX bytes:5011797 (5.0 MB) eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:5a:55:cf:29 inet addr:192.168.0.6 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::204:5aff:fe55:cf29/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2201 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1785 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:693375 (693.3 KB) TX bytes:674011 (674.0 KB) Interrupt:11 Base address:0x2400 loLink encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:60728 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:60728 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:17205585 (17.2 MB) TX bytes:17205585 (17.2 MB) precise$ route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface 0.0.0.0 71.195.44.1 0.0.0.0 UG10000 eth0 71.195.44.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.252.0 U 0 00 eth0 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 eth1 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 00 eth1 precise$ cat /etc/network/interfaces autolo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static netmask 255.255.255.0 address 192.168.0.6 precise$ cat /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules # PCI device 0x8086:0x1229 (e100) (mobo) (bottom) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:08:c7:d9:55:3f, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth0 # PCI device 0x1317:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:0f.0 (tulip) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:04:5a:55:cf:29, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth1 # PCI device 0x10b7:0x9050 (3c59x) (top) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:60:08:bf:e3:2d, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth2 precise$ cat /etc/network/interfaces~0riginal auto lo iface lo inet loopback precise$ cat /~/etc^udev^rules.d^70-persistent-net.rules~0riginal # PCI device 0x10b7:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:10.0 (3c59x) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:60:08:bf:e3:2d, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth1 # PCI device 0x8086:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:0d.0 (e100) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:08:c7:d9:55:3f, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth0 # PCI device 0x1317:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:0f.0 (tulip) SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:04:5a:55:cf:29, ATTR{dev_id}==0x0, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*, NAME=eth2 under saucy: saucy$ ls /boot/vm* /boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-11-generic saucy$ ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:04:5a:55:cf:29 inet addr:192.168.0.11 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::204:5aff:fe55:cf29/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:273 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:33 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:17678 (17.6 KB) TX bytes:2878 (2.8 KB) eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:08:c7:d9:55:3f inet addr:192.168.0.6 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::208:c7ff:fed9:553f/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:3498 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

[Bug 1254880] [NEW] lightdm not visible upon reboot
Public bug reported: lightdm did not appear to come up upon reboot, tho these processes exist: *j101 root 1600-1 1600 1 1600 11:56:00 0 poll_s Ssllightdm *j102 root 1665 1665 1665 1600 1665 11:56:03 0 poll_s Ss+ /usr/bin/X -core :0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch *j103 root 1600-1 1600 1600 1767 11:56:13 0 wait Sl lightdm --session-child 16 19 *j104 lightdm 1791-1 1791 1767 1791 11:56:15 0 sigsus Ss /bin/sh /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-greeter-session /usr/sbin/lightdm-gtk-greeter *j105 lightdm 1791-1 1791 1791 1797 11:56:18 0 poll_s Sl /usr/sbin/lightdm-gtk-greeter *j106 root 1600-1 1600 1600 1900 11:56:31 0 pipe_w S lightdm --session-child 12 19 instead i see messages as per a usual (noplymouth) reboot before lightdm awakens. i tried chvt (via ssh), seems strangely unable to do anything. but i came back a couple hours later and the chvt *had* happened. so i tried again to chvt 7. again the display immediately went into suspend mode. hitting keys doesn't reawaken it. chvt 2 or other VTs followed by tapping keys also no effect (at least not within 10 or so minutes). this has not happened before since installing trusty, so i'd guess it's not predictably repeatable. my offhand guess fwiw is a latent bug in some display related driver. even back in natty i remember occasionally somehow falling into a situation where even chvt couldn't unfreeze the display.
[Bug 1083606] [NEW] qjackctl only shows start, rest of window is gray
Public bug reported: when i launch qjackctl, it only shows start, and the rest of its window is gray. i've tried hardy, precise, and quantal, all with the same result. this only happens on my sound server box, my workstation box shows the qjackctl window just fine. this also doesn't happen (works fine) when i run the ubuntustudio live iso (on my sound server box). so i even tried copying the content of the iso filesystem.squashfs to disc, gave it a kernel, booted it, but still got the same sad result. what can i do to debug this? # lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy qjackctl No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1074774] Re: vlc window gray after apt-get upgrade
see Question #211834, same symptom in quantal. in installing quantal, i installed ubuntu core, then did apt-get --no-install-recommends install lubuntu-desktop. after reinstalling again without --no-install- recommends, the problem was no longer present. this bug was filed earlier, i had installed maya from iso, and then did apt-get --no- install-recommends dist-upgrade. so perhaps this bug would also no longer present if --no-install-recommends is omitted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1074774 Title: vlc window gray after apt-get upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vlc/+bug/1074774/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1079707] [NEW] Illegal instruction (core dumped) pulseaudio
Public bug reported: Illegal instruction (core dumped) pulseaudio this happens on the box with the speakers. pulseaudio is receiving sound via: socat TCP-LISTEN:4713,fork UNIX-CONNECT:/tmp/pulse-uPn1cDmiq2Qc/native this works fine while receiving sound from a box running precise. when receiving sound from quantal, it all still works fine while the sending program is mplayer. when the sending box (quantal) launches vlc, this happens. btw i already solved an illegal instruction problem on this machine by replacing mplayer2 with mplayer. does pulseaudio perhaps have a similar issue with older hardware? $ uname -a;apt-cache policy pulseaudio Linux nana 3.2.0-33-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 18 16:19:45 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux pulseaudio: Installed: 1:1.1-0ubuntu15.1 Candidate: 1:1.1-0ubuntu15.1 Version table: *** 1:1.1-0ubuntu15.1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:1.1-0ubuntu15 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1079707 Title: Illegal instruction (core dumped) pulseaudio To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1079707/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1290797] [NEW] longstanding display driver bug elicited by xscreensaver or lightdm or chvt
Public bug reported: i've been hitting this bug since natty or earlier. today, as per usual, the evidence of the bug is that chvt no longer functions normally. in today's case, two instances of xorg had been running, both crashed, xorg would not relaunch (immediately crashed again)(tho no trouble launching Xvnc), after the xorg crashes ctl-alt-F7 shows: The system is running in low-graphics mode, ctl-alt-F8 shows all black, and the clear clue, ctl-alt-F1 shows the text you would expect to see there, but at the same time the mouse cursor is still being displayed and responding to mouse movement as if we were still looking at ctl-alt-F[78]! same for ctl- alt-F[2-6]. when i hit this same bug on other days, the behaviour of ctl-alt-Fn will be peculiar in unique bizarre ways. i tried to submit this bug via ubuntu-bug (in 2 or 3 screen windows, then killed them all, then tried one more time), then zipped up the apport log, the Xorg logs, the single /var/crash/*Xorg* i found, and a process list. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290797 Title: longstanding display driver bug elicited by xscreensaver or lightdm or chvt To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1290797/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1335522] [NEW] time boots up as UTC instead of localtime
Public bug reported: whenever there is a power loss or incomplete shutdown, the next subsequent boot comes up with the system time set such that the local time shows the time that would be correct for the UTC time, until such time as ntpdate or ntpd get a chance to correct the system time. this must mean that shutdown code has been given the responsibility to adjust the hardware clock to my chosen setting of local time. imho this is a design bug. imo a better design would apply the offset from UTC to the hardware clock during regular system uptime. yes i am aware of the age-old advice to choose UTC for the hardware clock. imho this advice is given to divert attention away from the aforementioned design bug. choosing local time for the hardware clock allows the bios time rendering to match local time rather than UTC. and this choice allows for better compatibility with dual booting other operating systems. not that either of these reasons should be necessary to advocate for a more robust and elegantly simple implementation of a simple core linux feature.
