[Bug 105390] Re: window manager crashes/does not work
when I was asked to move the .gnome2/ directory I moved it into the windows hard disk so there would be no issues. When asked to do .tar.gz did the same by moving it back but onto desktop so that there would be no issues like that. Btw I have upgraded to the 1.9.94 but it still happens intermittently sometimes going from -15 to -12 solves the issues sometimes not. Then have to resort to repair kernel, enter gdm at the prompt, do some work for sometime, then do a normal shutdown then the next time I use any of the kernels the system works. Although the brief flash after logging in still happens. I'll be doing a clean install day after tomorrow, in case if you guys want me to run some tests please lemme know. This is crazy, I thought I had reported this but apparently not, sometimes when the screen goes blank even the virtual terminals tty1-6 are not accessible. I have to use magic keys or hard boot . Many a times when I do the (ALT+SYSRQ+S), then (ALT+SYSRQ+U) then (ALT+SYS+B) to reboot but even after doing tht most of the times it fails, whenever the screen goes blank I have to try these 2-3 methods whichever gets me the desktop after GDM is good for that time, and times after that. Feels like some .config for that session is saved carried over to the next. -- window manager crashes/does not work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105390 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Timo, i tried the 2.0 which is on your site. The driver does not change remains at static 1152*768. [Bug 102868] Re: apport should be mini-ftp client with resuming capabilities
Although I do tend to agree that it should not be by default, but it would be cool for the user who is interested in the bug-report. Lets take the case of user case A whose application keeps on failing, some x buggy program, so by default apport would be sending but the user never comes to know that the report never got sent due to some error or the other. User B is a good citizen religiously files the bug reports but at times he gets errors (something like 500 Internal Server after trying to actually send the bug report for 30 mins.) He does not know the reason why it happened. He then takes recourse of servers like rapidshare.com but that is insecure, prone to more failure (no way to do some parity-checking) or something like that. Reference bug #103604 for use-case scenario B. Point to be noted :- The crash file therein is only 7 MB, I am on 246 Kbps/64 Kbps unlimited connection. Tried sending the bug- report at the very least 5-6 times without no result. Once after 2 hrs. of apport saying it is uploading I get an Internal Server Error 500. At the end, had to take recourse of rapidshare.com twice but without any positive outcome (some parity issue or some other thing probably). User having -1 experience with the whole bug-reporting experiencing with apport. Further as we move to feisty+1 or even a bigger bug-report lets say an openoffice crash (maybe 15-20 MB) reasonable , shudder to think how I would do it under the present circumstances. -- apport should be mini-ftp client with resuming capabilities https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/102868 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

On 4/12/07, Micah Cowan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: snipped The only solution which works in the meanwhile is typing 'metacity' without the quotes in terminal brings all window decorations etc. What this essentially means is that running metacity by hand fixes things, but for some reason metacity is either not running by default in your gnome session, or is crashing for some strange reason. moving ~/.gnome2/session seems like it should have fixed it; but ~/.gnome2 definitely ought to: it's just a bit draconian (though not as much so as blowing away the user's home directory), since any customizations to gnome apps that you've done will have to be redone. Actually it was pretty easy, when I moved .gnome2 out of the way, by customization to the applications which are saved during the session, those were gone but i can happily live with that, as more important is that I got my desktop back. So each install is from an alternate CD. This has been the case for Edgy as well as the Feisty Beta, unable to install via the GUI. [Bug 99303] goes from 24% to 80% then fails at select install software
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: debian-installer Hi all, I downloaded the 7.04 beta using bittorent. The first time I installed it, it installed without any issues. Due to certain other issues decided to re-install. I checked the md5sums given at the site, with a checksum software which I've at my end. http://www.slavasoft.com/?source=HashCalc.exe . Also bittorent reported as a clean thing. Then before installing, I checked the CD for defects. I re-formatted the partitions as I'm aware of the bug https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-partitioning/+bug/94647 . No guided partitioning, it was all manual. It's a text-based install (no oem install or F6 expert install) , it proceeds to install the base system installs it successfully. But the next phase where it starts installing the rest of the software packages, it waits at a couple of places for long -time, then jumps, then around at 24-25% it jumps to 86% says the installation package failed at select install software. I burnt a second CD thinking there might be some burn issues or something like tht but still the same error is re-produced. It does ask me to save the logs but as I'm not so wise don't know how to save it. If somebody can provide me instructions for the save, anything else I might not have looked at, feel free to ask. Thnx in advance. ** Affects: debian-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed ** Description changed: Binary package hint: debian-installer Hi all, - I downloaded the 7.04 beta using bittorent. The first time I installed it, it installed without any issues. + I downloaded the 7.04 beta using bittorent. [Bug 99090] Re: apt-get unable to read /etc/apt/sources.list
I deleted the extra chinese characters/japanese characters but they seemed to crop up again again. I want to use hindi letters but tht comes l8ter. I used the alternate CD to set up there is/was no way to set up the encodings so I guess the default setup includes all the encodings. Anyways, I tried to re-install the OS from the CD again now I'm stuck at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian- installer/+bug/99303 which seems to tell me tht something is bad with the alternate CD. This bug is re-producible each time. -- apt-get unable to read /etc/apt/sources.list https://launchpad.net/bugs/99090 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
