[ubuntu-in] Two Software to check out
Hi wanted to share two software that are very nice to use (both are available as apt-get or in the repos) 1. RedNotebook a very easy to use daily journal with tonnes of features with a superb search facility, Its also very easy to print sections across the many days to many formats - html, pdf , latex and it can be made to look good as well with pics and drawings etc. It has a separate to do column - however this is not a persistent to -do and is not so nice to keep track of jobs Over all if any one is looking for a comprehensive easy to use daily journal then this is one of the best. 2. Digikam Light Table For people with fast cameras, tonnes of data card space (but limited HD space) and a penchant to use multiple exposures this is an absolute blessing . Digikam Light table is not a stand alone software but a part of digikam. People who have worked with older slide transparencies or film negatives will realize the value of this tool , similar to the original light tables. It provides the ability to analyze many similar pictures at the same time (two active with a quick method to flip through the rest) - it has an easy zoom option and allows moving around the images - with the second kind of mirrored, to check our various parts of the pictures and figure out which to keep. Deleting ones not required are very easy just click on the image and delete (del) ** These are not comprehensive reviews of the software , just a sharing of something that seem nice. enjoy ram -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

[ubuntu-in] C++ templates
Hi, Whenever I have had to work with templates in C++, I have felt a shiver. I am not sure if its just me, but I find something about templates that makes me think that it is not working the way it is supposed to. Besides, there are many forums and tutorials that discuss how to use templates with multiple files. What surprises me is that the use of template forces one to 'include' the implementation file and cannot compile it separately, which seems a more intuitive behavior. I heard about a purely object oriented design in SCALA and was pretty impressed by that. All objects inherit from ANY object. That is something that will allow templates in C++ to be far simpler than what the current implementation is . Is there any library in C++ that re-creates the existing data-types in a similar manner ? Or if such a library is created, would it be useful ? I have the following structure (tree-like) in mind. AnyClass OrderedType Integer Float UInt Double BigInt Char String This is just a basic idea. I was thinking of implementing something like Trees and Lists using this structure (mainly OrderedType), that will allow me to demonstrate the use of the library replacing templates. Need suggestions and opinion -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in

For a VPS, I would recommend slicehost.com, I've been with them for years and I'm really happy with the service. They've been bought by Rackspace and will soon start transitioning customers to Rackspace Cloud. I have started using Rackspace Cloud and overall I'm happy with it. There are some API differences I don't like. Email me off list if you want to use any of the above services so I can give you a referral code. As designed, apport files a new bug report for each crash, which can quickly lead to excessive numbers of dupe bug reports (there are ways of making apport auto-dupe, but this takes effort to set up and isn't always 100% reliable). This can quickly become unmanageable especially for packages that lack someone to keep an eye on the bug reports. In any case, these types of reports post-release are most useful in aggregate rather than as individual bug reports. If they were filed in some ultra simple crash database (with no signup required of the user) we could get most of the value without incurring a lot of extra bug labor. When will GNOME and KDE upstream translations be imported ?
Hi, I was wondering when will GNOME and KDE upstream translations be imported.

Desligar, suspender, hibernar e aumentou a web-cam. [Bug 782614] Re: make configuring DNSSEC validation easier
DNSSEC will place an additional burden on the network and, in particular, the infrastructure based DNS servers. The rationale to have the root key defined here but not used is that will use some of the existing DNS infrastructure (via use of RFC5011) and allow server operators to gauge load. I would recommend that Ubuntu 11.10 ships with DNSSEC available (i.e. root key but disabled) and Ubuntu 12.04 ships with DNSSEC enabled (i.e. root key and enabled by default), so that server operators are not overwhelmed. ** Patch added: 0005-Add-in-the-current-root-.-DNSSEC-key.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/782614/+attachment/2257836/+files/0005-Add-in-the-current-root-.-DNSSEC-key.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bind9 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/782614 Title: make configuring DNSSEC validation easier To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/782614/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 777855] Re: resolver failures without even sending queries, break Postfix
Matthias, I ran your test program on Natty, and its definitely present there. I also ran it on Oneiric, with libc6 version 2.13-9ubuntu3 , and the expected result (sending the query to the dns server) happens. So I believe this has been fixed, though I cannot point to the exact changelog entry that has done it. I think we can also close the task on Postfix, since this is a glibc issue, unless there is something we can do to postfix to fix this. ** Changed in: eglibc (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released ** Also affects: eglibc (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: postfix (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: eglibc (Ubuntu Maverick) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: postfix (Ubuntu Maverick) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: eglibc (Ubuntu Lucid) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to postfix in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777855 Title: resolver failures without even sending queries, break Postfix To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/glibc/+bug/777855/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 821818] [NEW] pxlmono driver does not work with lexmark E230

Conky 1.8.1 is for the most part a bugfix release, and it fixes multiple bugs in Debian's BTS and on Launchpad, so it should be safe to merge; I've also tried building it in oneiric in my sandbox PPA and can confirm that it builds without a problem (see https://launchpad.net/~vincent-c/+archive/vincents-sandbox). ** Summary changed: - Sync conky 1.8.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) + Merge conky 1.8.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) ** Description changed: - Please sync conky 1.8.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) - - Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped: - Conky 1.8.1 is a bugfix release which contains all of the cherry-picked upstream patches currently in Ubuntu's Conky packaging. + Please merge conky 1.8.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) Changelog entries since current oneiric version 1.8.0-1ubuntu1: conky (1.8.1-1) unstable; urgency=low - * Adopt package.
