[ubuntu-in] Two Software to check out

2011-08-06 Thread Ramnarayan.K
Hi

wanted to share two software that are very nice to use (both are available
as apt-get or in the repos)

1. RedNotebook
a very easy to use daily journal with tonnes of features with a superb
search facility,
Its also very easy to print sections across the many days to many formats -
html, pdf , latex and it can be made to look good as well with pics and
drawings etc.

It has a separate to do column - however this is not a persistent to -do and
is not so nice to keep track of jobs

Over all if any one is looking for a comprehensive easy to use daily journal
then this is one of the best.

2. Digikam Light Table

For people with fast cameras, tonnes of data card space (but limited HD
space) and a penchant to use multiple exposures this is an absolute
blessing . Digikam Light table is not a stand alone software but a part of
digikam.

People who have worked with older slide transparencies or film negatives
will realize the value of this tool , similar to the original light tables.

It provides the ability to analyze many similar pictures at the same time
(two active with a quick method to flip through the rest) - it has an easy
zoom option and allows moving around the images - with the second kind of
mirrored, to check our various parts of the pictures and figure out which
to keep. Deleting ones not required are very easy just click on the image
and delete (del)

**

These are not comprehensive reviews of the software , just a sharing of
something that seem nice.

enjoy

[ubuntu-in] C++ templates

2011-08-06 Thread Rajat Khanduja
Hi,

Whenever I have had to work with templates in C++, I have felt a shiver. I
am not sure if its just me, but I find something about templates that makes
me think that it is not working the way it is supposed to. Besides, there
are many forums and tutorials that discuss how to use templates with
multiple files. What surprises me is that the use of template forces one to
'include' the implementation file and cannot compile it separately, which
seems a more intuitive behavior.

I heard about a purely object oriented design in SCALA and was pretty
impressed by that. All objects inherit from ANY object. That is something
that will allow templates in C++ to be far simpler than what the current
implementation is .

Is there any library in C++ that re-creates the existing data-types in a
similar manner ? Or if such a library is created, would it be useful ?

I have the following structure (tree-like) in mind.

AnyClass
   OrderedType
   Integer
   Float
   UInt
   Double
   BigInt
   Char
   String

This is just a basic idea. I was thinking of implementing something like
Trees and Lists using this structure (mainly OrderedType), that will allow
me to demonstrate the use of the library replacing templates.

Need suggestions and opinion

Yes, I guess that we have to go through the whole permit process and I
don't know how hard this is in OZ.
I don't know any shop owners but we could try to ask JBL etc. Before
we do that we have to think about the presentation of the SFD content
because this will be the first question from any shop owner before
they give any consent.

So we are probably better off with the council in the first place.

You haven't specified if you are after dedicated, vps or shared
hosting. Personally I don't bother with shared hosting these days. I
have a couple of legacy customers with static page sites on dreamhost
and I'm happy with them.

For a VPS, I would recommend slicehost.com, I've been with them for
years and I'm really happy with the service. They've been bought by
Rackspace and will soon start transitioning customers to Rackspace
Cloud. I have started using Rackspace Cloud and overall I'm happy with
it. There are some API differences I don't like.

Email me off list if you want to use any of the above services so I can
give you a referral code.

If you have more time and skills Amazon's AWS is an option too.

For dedicated avoid ServerPronto at all costs, they are scammers.
They're cheap and particularly nasty.

I agree. As designed, apport files a new bug report for each crash,
which can quickly lead to excessive numbers of dupe bug reports (there
are ways of making apport auto-dupe, but this takes effort to set up and
isn't always 100% reliable). This can quickly become unmanageable
especially for packages that lack someone to keep an eye on the bug
reports.

In any case, these types of reports post-release are most useful in
aggregate rather than as individual bug reports. If they were filed in
some ultra simple crash database (with no signup required of the user)
we could get most of the value without incurring a lot of extra bug
labor.

Hi all

If you follow [1], you could have expected a call for testing the packages
for the third langpack update of Natty. Unfortunately, we had to delay this
by a week.

The reason for this is that we failed to request a full language pack update
as a base of the update, and this makes it impossible to ship the updated
gnome-user-docs translations, what was requested in [2] and also here in the
last few days. This mistake was corrected yesterday, and next weeks packages
should contain the docs too. Only after that will the call for testing be
sent out.

Thanks for taking care of this, I wasn't aware that there needed to be
a special request for including docs translations so it's good that
you were watching this.

Yeah, this skipped our radar too. There are two types of language packs:

   * Delta language packs (contain only translations changed since
 the last full language pack, are automatically created on the
 weekly translations PPA)
   * Full language pack (contain all translations and need to be
 requested and generated manually)

Documentation updates are only contained in full language packs.

In the future, I think both teams (docs and translations) should try to
better coordinate SRU updates.

Here is our schedule:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/NattyLanguagePackReleaseSchedule
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/MaverickLanguagePackReleaseSchedule
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/LucidLanguagePackReleaseSchedule

We should probably post the announcements on the docs list too, and in
the same way, I think it'd be really useful if the docs team posts the
announcements on upcoming uploads on the translators list too.

It would be brilliant if you could check that the translations from
the gnome-user-docs package in natty-proposed will also be included,
as this has not yet been copied over to natty-updates.

I believe it being in natty-proposed should be enough for the language
packs to pick them up, but we'll double check. Thanks for the heads up.

Martin, I've included you on CC to see if you can answer this question.

In short, we've requested a full Natty language pack export that should
be available on Wednesday next week, and we'd like it to include the
contents of the gnome-user-docs package in natty-proposed.

Is it enough for it to be in -proposed for its translations to be picked
up by the full language pack?

Thanks.

Cheers,
David.

Hi Hannie,

I uploaded the Natty language packs about a week ago. This is a step
generally Martin Pitt does, but he was away at the time. It seems that
they did not get uploaded in the end, but I've been busy with other
projects to contact the other archive admins and find out what happened.

I'm away next week, but Martin will be back, so if someone could help by
just pinging him on IRC, we could then unblock the language packs.

Thanks.

  Hi all

  If you follow [1], you could have expected a call for testing the packages
  for the third langpack update of Natty. Unfortunately, we had to delay
  this
  by a week.

  The reason for this is that we failed to request a full language pack
  update
  as a base of the update, and this makes it impossible to ship the updated
  gnome-user-docs translations, what was requested in [2] and also here in
  the
  last few days. This mistake was corrected yesterday, and next weeks
  packages
  should contain the docs too.

When will GNOME and KDE upstream translations be imported ?

2011-08-06 Thread Pierre Slamich
Hi,
I was wondering when will GNOME and KDE upstream translations be imported.
For the time being, new translators are making loads of translation suggestion
on KDE and GNOME specific languages, in a waste of time. We thought that seeing
completed translations could drive them on Ubuntu-specific packages. (Some of
them don't follow the guidelines regarding priorities in translations
unfortunately)

Sincerely,

[Ubuntu-BR] /home em um disco sem acesso

2011-08-06 Thread Brenno Emanuel
Olá time

reparar manualmente.

[Ubuntu-BR] [OFF] Ubuntu x Fedora x openSuse empate de zero

2011-08-06 Thread Ednilson Geraldo Rossi

Sou
usuário do Ubuntu desde a versão 6, mas agora decidi buscar outras
alternativas.

Desligar, suspender, hibernar e aumentou a
web-cam.

[Bug 782614] Re: make configuring DNSSEC validation easier

2011-08-06 Thread Anand Kumria
DNSSEC will place an additional burden on the network and, in particular, the
infrastructure based DNS servers.

The rationale to have the root key defined here but not used is that
will use some of the existing DNS infrastructure (via use of RFC5011)
and allow server operators to gauge load.

I would recommend that Ubuntu 11.10 ships with DNSSEC available (i.e.
root key but disabled) and Ubuntu 12.04 ships with DNSSEC enabled (i.e.
root key and enabled by default), so that server operators are not
overwhelmed.

[Bug 780657] Re: FreeBSD Hangs on Boot

2011-08-06 Thread Tom Vijlbrief
Replacing the SeaBios implementation of the delay in src/clock.c with
the method used in the Bochs BIOS is also a workaround for FreeBSD:

//=
// Wait for CX:DX microseconds
void
handle_1586(struct bregs *regs)
{
// Use the rtc to wait for the specified time.
u32 count = (regs-cx  16) | regs-dx;
#if 0
u8 statusflag = 0;
int ret = set_usertimer(count, GET_SEG(SS), (u32)statusflag);
if (ret) {
set_code_invalid(regs, RET_ECLOCKINUSE);
return;
}
while (!statusflag)
wait_irq();
#else
// Use bochs code: (t...@v7f.eu)
count/= 15;
while (count--  0) {
  u8 orig = inb(PORT_PS2_CTRLB)  0x10;
  while (orig == (inb(PORT_PS2_CTRLB)  0x10))
;
}
#endif
set_success(regs);
}

//===

You can replace /usr/share/seabios/bios.bin with
the bios downloaded from:

Note, I just checked Fedora 15 and the root key is setup similarly and is
*enabled* by default as well.

So you might just want to do so within Ubuntu as well.

[Bug 777855] Re: resolver failures without even sending queries, break Postfix

2011-08-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Matthias, I ran your test program on Natty, and its definitely present
there. I also ran it on Oneiric, with libc6 version 2.13-9ubuntu3 , and
the expected result (sending the query to the dns server) happens. So
I believe this has been fixed, though I cannot point to the exact
changelog entry that has done it.

I think we can also close the task on Postfix, since this is a glibc
issue, unless there is something we can do to postfix to fix this.

Re: [Bug 777855] Re: resolver failures without even sending queries, break Postfix

2011-08-06 Thread Matthias Andree
Am 06.08.2011 17:05, schrieb Clint Byrum:

 I think we can also close the task on Postfix, since this is a glibc
 issue, unless there is something we can do to postfix to fix this.

Postfix is one of the few software packages whose default configuration
(in newer Postfix versions) triggers this bug. If you choose to fix
glibc through SRUs, then you can, of course, close the Postfix relation.

[Bug 821815] [NEW] Does NOT remember last unmaximized size

2011-08-06 Thread Pulkit Swarup
Public bug reported:

OS: Kubuntu 10.10 / 11.04
LibreOffice Version: 3.3.2/3.3.3

[Actual Behaviour]
When I try to open a document in LibreOffice-Writer it opens up in the
following Window Geometry (Unmaximized State) 853,765. I resize the window size
by dragging the mouse an resize the new size to 1279,764 and close the document
first and then LibreOffice Writer.

Now, the next time I open up the document it opens up in the same old
size as before (i.e. 853, 765)

[Expected Behaviour]
Upon re-opening the document the new re-sized window size should open. [i.e.
1279,764].

[Bug 266951] Re: Buffer I/O error on device sr0 Logical Block XXXXXX in Intrepid Ibex Alpha 5

2011-08-06 Thread Husni
Hello,

I am new in this page, I receive the same error using any type of linux
flavor except, a flavor that is used in public schools in spain, I have
a feeling that the OS that is being used in Spain for schools has been
developed nationally. anyways back on track.

Computer:
ASUS EEE PC 1001PX
1GB RAM
Samsung HM321HI (320GB)
Win XP pro (SP3)

FAILED:
Linuxmint 11 (Linux Live USB Creator) (Universal USB Installer) (YUMI Installer)
Ubuntu 11 (Linux Live USB Creator) (Universal USB Installer) (YUMI Installer)
PinguyOS - LATEST (Linux Live USB Creator) (Universal USB Installer) (YUMI
Installer)
Backtrack 5 (Linux Live USB Creator) (Universal USB Installer) (YUMI Installer)

Succeeded:
Guadalinex (made in Spain?) (Linux Live USB Creator) (any, even the latest,
works flawlessly in my PC)
DL LINK FOR GUADALINEX:
http://www.guadalinex.org/mas-programas/descargas/cds-de-instalacion/

I think, but iam not sure, but i think to solve this problem is to go back in
the flavor's version you want, install (if you ever reach there) and upgrade
through prompt. I have used these installers (Linux Live USB Creator, Universal
USB Installer, YUMI Installer) because the laptop that i use is a netbook
(provided from school) and i don't have a external disk drive neither i can't
access to one, the laptop doesn't have a integrated disk drive.

Thanks.

[Bug 790394] Re: When maximizing windows, they move onto another virtual desktop.

2011-08-06 Thread tankdriver
I am quite sure that this is a duplicate of Bug #776435 (compiz package, can
be reproduced with 10.04 too)
But I do not know how compiz is connected with unity to get a clear separation
here.
Please take a look at my comment. (why I think this was not a problem in the
pre-unity ubuntu releases)

[Bug 778027] Re: Merge conky 1.8.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-08-06 Thread Vincent Cheng
I'm currently having some FTBFS problems with Conky and Debian kfreebsd,
which aren't likely to be fixed before feature freeze, so I'd like to
request a merge instead. Conky 1.8.1 is for the most part a bugfix
release, and it fixes multiple bugs in Debian's BTS and on Launchpad, so
it should be safe to merge; I've also tried building it in oneiric in my
sandbox PPA and can confirm that it builds without a problem (see
https://launchpad.net/~vincent-c/+archive/vincents-sandbox).

** Summary changed:

- Sync conky 1.8.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

** Description changed:

- Please sync conky 1.8.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
-
- Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
- Conky 1.8.1 is a bugfix release which contains all of the cherry-picked
upstream patches currently in Ubuntu's Conky packaging.
+ Please merge conky 1.8.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Re: [Bug 819486] Re: cannot boot from network - roms missing

 Quoting Michal Suchanek (hramr...@centrum.cz):

 qemu-user does not depend on qemu-common but qemu-common is supposed to

 qemu-user is a completely separate package providing the non-accelerated
 emulators.  If it's missing documentation, then a bug should indeed be
 opened against qemu-user.

 The docs for qemu, qemu-img, etc are in the qemu-kvm package.

  Description: qemu common functionality (bios, documentation, etc)
This package pulls in the various binary bios rom blobs needed to boot
the various emulated architectures, as well as the documentation.

but no docs are in the dependencies.
