have been waiting for 20 minutes now. guest: Stock 12.04 LTS server,

[Bug 865976] [NEW] ubuntu startup stops when gdm should be displayed

2011-10-04 Thread David Vonka
Public bug reported:

i've upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 and cannot get the system started properly
any more. When I pass nomodeset to linux kernel, it boots ok, but at some point
I get a
Starting load fallback graphics messages ... [failed]
and then a long list of processes being stopped (GDM, sound system ...)
it is possible to log to a text console and startx manually, although the
unity session is broken (no menus at all, only desktop, but i can get terminal
started)

The computer has bot an intel and a radeon graphics card, which might be the
source of the problem. it also has an unsupported wireless card, which I have to
patch manually for every kernel revision, but that works ok.

result of lshw and lspci is attached.
thanks.

[Bug 271550] Re: ia32-libs missing libQtDBus, others?

2008-09-28 Thread David Vonka
This did not work out too good for me. the newly installed libqt-dbus
and libqt-network are not compatible (4.4.2) with my hand installed
liqt4-core (4.4.1) and libqt-gui (4.4.1). I had to reinstall them
manually again (ie download from i386 repositories, extract and copy to
/usr/lib32/) But as no-one seems to have a similar problem, I must be
doing something wrong ...

[Bug 244217] [NEW] Screen goes blank after grub and never comes to life again

2008-06-30 Thread David Vonka
Public bug reported:

I've just updated to Intrepid alpha-1, 32bit. The booting starts and
then my monitor goes to sleep. After say 15 secs the monitor comes to
life again (green light indicator), but remains blank. The system seems
to be working ok, just the screen is blank.

It works ok when I load the kernel 2.6.24.19 or if I run the new one in
recovery mode and choose for repair X-server.

[Bug 158065] Re: evince crash on attached pdf when printing

2008-06-24 Thread David Vonka
With the latest updates, the segfault doesn't happen anymore. Still,
evince uses a whole processor core for say half a minute on this Pendium
4, 1GB RAM computer. It uses 255 mib of memory after opening the
document (system monitor) and 480mib when generating the print preview
and afterthat. An empty evince (no documents open) uses 10 mib of

[Bug 196277] Re: [hardy] keyboard layout switching shortcut doesn't work after reboot

2008-04-04 Thread David Vonka
Confirm a similar problem. Keyboard layout changes work by clicking,
in the sense that USA changes to CZE and back. Unfortunately, this has
no impact on anything else, I still can not type Czech letters. Then I
have to go to keyboard preferences and change something, for example the
keyboard type from Dell to Dell USB. Then (1) the keyboard shortcut
starts working (2) When the panel says CZE, I can indeed type Czech
letters.

Testing would be appreciated. If people can also test for me with an
*emptied* ~/.azureus, that'd be great too. I've received a report that
azupdater wants to update twice (update once, restart, it wants to
update AGAIN, then update again, and it works).

I'd also like opinions from everyone if I should disable all update
checking at startup, not just SWT.

[Bug 141325] printout from evince blurry

2007-09-20 Thread David Vonka
Public bug reported:

I run Ubuntu Gutsy 32bit.

I create a pdf using LyX + pdflatex. The pdf file displays ok in evince.
When I print it, the text is very blurry, equations are ok. When I open
this pdf file in kpdf, it displays and prints ok. When I compile another
TeX file using pdflatex without LyX in between, it displays and prints
ok using both evince and kpdf.

This all is independent of printer, prints so even to another pdf. The
original lyx file, pdf file and pdf generated by 'Print to file' are

Re: [Bug 135256] Re: thunderbird crashes when trying to view some emails

2007-08-29 Thread David Vonka
Downloading from mozilla. Now I removed it and replaced by
lightning-extension from the gutsy repositories. It seems to generate no
errors so far ...

 Okay,
Did you install lightning with a package manager (aptitude, apt-get,
synaptic...) or by downloading the extension from the mozilla website ?

[Bug 135256] Re: thunderbird crashes when trying to view some emails

2007-08-28 Thread David Vonka
Oh I forgot:
I'm running gutsy 32bit updated from feisty, with thunderbird from the
repositories. There are
two add-ons in thundebird: lightning 0.5 and provider for google calendar 0.2.1
+
English language pack. Removing them solves the problem, but I guess we still
don't
want thunderbird to crash when there are some add ons ...

[Bug 135256] thunderbird crashes when trying to view some emails

2007-08-28 Thread David Vonka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I open thunderbird, click on a message in my inbox and thunderbird segfaults.
I've tried to follow your bug reporting rules, so
a log file is attached.

Some messages open ok. It doesn't seem to depend on IMAP vs POP3. It
doesn't seem to depend on whether there is an attachment.

Re: [Bug 135256] Re: thunderbird crashes when trying to view some emails

2007-08-28 Thread David Vonka
I've been installing and uninstalling lightning and google provider for
some time. Lightning seem to be the source of trouble. Both 0.5 and
0.7pre version lead to the crash, but not until I've opened thunderbird
for the second time after installation of the add-on.

Nicolas Robin wrote:
Could you please try to remove each add-on one by one to try to see
which one causes the problem ?

 Tkanks :)

Re: [Bug 96043] Re: Gnome panel: problems with changing the icons of launchers

2007-04-03 Thread David Vonka
It started to work ok two days ago. Before, the steps were quite easy,
the icon change would not work for any Custom application launcher.
It also wasn't possible to add any Custom application launcher to the
(upper) panel.

Maybe an update has solved it. Maybe there was something wrong in my
installation and I incidentally corrected it when looking for the
source of the problem. Or maybe I should stop drinking, so that I don't
see non-existent bugs ...

Thank you for your bug. I don't confirm this bug, changing icons works
correctly on my feisty desktop. Do you have easy steps to trigger the
 bug?

[Bug 96043] Gnome panel: problems with changing the icons of launchers

2007-03-25 Thread David Vonka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I upgraded from Edgy to Feisty beta last night. I had a set of application
launchers
in my gnome-panel. They were still ok after the upgrade. Now I tried to change
some
icons using the GUI. Impossible to do, get a red cross and no way to get the
icon back.
I checked the launcher files in ~.gnome2/panel2.d/default/launchers/. It seems
that the problem is
in the language specification. Feisty adds icon[en_US]=blahblah. Before there
was icon=BLEHBLEH,
without the language specification. If I change it all back to icon=blahblah
and kill the gnome-panel, everything is ok (the new icon is there).
