[Bug 1620300] Re: Spyder won't start (ImportError: No module named QtWebKit)

2016-11-04 Thread Holger Knust
David Oftedal's downgrade trick worked nicely. I was trying to get
Spyder3 running. For Python 3.x it would be

apt-get install python3-pyqt4=4.11.4+dfsg-1build4
python3-pyqt4.qtsql=4.11.4+dfsg-1build4

2013-10-23 Thread Holger Knust
I am getting the same issues you are describing on a Dell XPS 17 L702.
UEFI booting is not an available option, nor is a BIOS update (checked
the Dell site for newer BIOS). I grabbed the casper.log and the dmesg
output in case that provides any insights.

[Bug 1070150] Re: Intermittent low graphics mode with Intel HD graphics

2012-12-23 Thread Holger Knust
I had the same intermittent issue on my Dell laptop. I am booting 12.10
x64 from a SSD drive. Starting with 12.10, the boot time has improved
significantly and apparently that is part of the problem. I experimented
with placing a service lightdm restart in rc.local but that resulted in
a non-functioning touchpad. Michael's tip (#16) works perfectly for me.

Thanks, Michael!

[Bug 881955] Re: System monitor freezes up when switching to Processes tab

2011-11-14 Thread Holger Knust
Nice find!

Xorg-edgers ppa is installed on my latpop. Mark Blakeney reported that
it affects his Nvidia system but not Intel. My laptop uses the Optimus
technology where the Intel HD 3000 chip is the main display hardware and
the Nvidia chip is dormant for the most part unless you use bumblebee.
Yet, the problem occurs.

[Bug 871480] [NEW] gnome-screenshot fails (black image) and pegs CPU to 100%

2011-10-09 Thread Holger Knust
Public bug reported:

I have a dual screen set up with slightly different resolutions, i.e.
external screen is 1920x1200 and the laptop screen is 1920x1080. Taking
pictures with the built-in screenshot tool results in a black image with
just the mouse pointer showing.

But what makes it a serious problem is that the gnome-screenshot stays
resident (after Cancel) and pegs one CPU thread to 100%. After a few
attempts of taking screen shots, the whole CPU was maxed out! (see
attached system-monitor image)

BTW, the screen shots were taken with shutter -- just in case anyone was
wondering :)

When I minimized a maximized window, the animation leaves artifacts on
