Sorry, missed a couple of posts... so the issue isn't getting the jpgs it's actually getting the VCD to play? As far as I was aware a VCD is only a collection of MPGs these will presumably be the larger of the files on the CD... I think the .dat files. If you were to copy on of the .dats to your hard drive, rename it to .mpg will it then open in mplayer or whatever? Then, perhaps, just use to create your jpgs or pngs. Couldn't you just start the VCD playing and at the appropriate moments press "Print Screen"? Or is that too simple? Sean -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/
Re: [ubuntu-uk] jpeg from vcd
How many pictures are in the vcd? Could you open the pics with a picture program? Just an idea, dont know if its possible. Re: [ubuntu-uk] jpeg from vcd

There are four folders on the disc one of which is labelled vcd. Inside that folder there are four items, entries, info, lot and psd all with the extension .vcd. I attempted to open each of these with vlc, the first three produced a message window full of information and the fourth not only produced the message window but also another window which said Unrecognised format for '/media/cdrom0/vcd/psd.vcl'. I think I will slowly slide down in my chair and snooze. Norman -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/

I had hoped that by opening the vcd I would have found the files. Never mind, I will open the disc another way and see what is there. [ubuntu-uk] No Sound
Hi to the group, Sorry to post again before receiving a reply. I have spent some time trying to restore the sound but to no avail. I must have every codec going but still nothing. I expect I will have to remove all the sound application and try to rebuild it but I am not too sure how to do this using the terminal. Have a good New Year, John-- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/

Using avidemux and gimp I am quite happy about it is the cli stuff where I am very ignorant. I shall wait awhile and see if anything else will work, if not, I will be back. If you can sit by it as it is running vlc will allow you to get screenshots from it, or frozen frames. [ubuntu-uk] jpeg from vcd
My son has received some photographs of his wedding on a VCD and has asked me if it is possible to extract individual images. I have Googled away and followed various paths but, whilst there are lots of ways to put images into a vcd, I have not come across one clear way to reverse the process. Can anyone help me please? [ubuntu-uk] Spoke too soon!
Hi All, I installed the sound as Tom's suggestion and all worked perfectly. Today no sound again. Any ideas as to what is wrong ? Also for the last few day upon switch on I have had to restore the bios settings. I replaced the battery but this does not seem to have cured the problem. it has worked before, I wonder if that something to do with the loss of sound ? Although the 2 don't seem connected, Regards John -- ubuntu-uk@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-uk https://wiki.kubuntu.org/UKTeam/
[ubuntu-uk] Logitech QuickCam Chat
Hi, I've just added a Logitech QuickCam Chat webcam, which is working fine in Ekiga and Skype for Linux (except that the picture is reversed!) but I can't seem to get decent sound input through the microphone which came with it. I've tried different settings, and turned the mike up through the system volume control. I've got VIA VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 sound, speakers are OK and sound through earpiece OK, so I'm assuming it's the sound in that's the problem. I've used a mike in the past on this PC in Windows OK, but haven't tried this mike on Windows yet. Any suggestions?
