Okay I wonder if it's a hardware problem that has developed due to the
excess heat. Try booting up the CD and when you get to the boot menu
select the option to test memory (it might say Memtest).

Run this for a few hours (at least) and let us know if you get any

Im assuming the delay was due to some lead in silence on the track? A normal
CD player wont have the functionality to be able to cue up the track just
before the sound. You need a DJ cd player like a pioneer CDJ-800 to do
things like that. However on the software side I havent tried mixxx but I
would say any "DJ" application would do it, examples I can think of are
Ableton, Traktor, (not linux apps those though), or any other linux based DJ
apps which allow you to cue up a track. However heres another angle you
might want to try:

1. Install Audacity in Ubuntu.
2. Play your sound effects into audacity and record them
3. Edit them and chop off the lead in silence of the effects.
4. Save them out as audio or digital files (depends on your CD player, will
it play mp3?)
5. Burn the tracks onto a CD

When you play them on a regular CD player, they should fire off almost
instantly.

Probably not quite ideal, but mixxx does a reasonable job of this
(it's a digital DJ app).

As far as I can tell you can only load 2 tracks at once, but it's easy
to create playlists to queue up your other sound effects.

It can be configured to use either JACK or ALSA, and its ALSA driver
works fine with pulseaudio.

Hi Neil,

You can rename partitions in parted or gparted, which should sort it out
for you. Then in your backup script, put something like:

if test -d /mounts/backup1
   do ln -s /mounts/backup1 /mounts/backup
elif test -d /mounts/backup2
   do ln -s /mounts backup2 /mounts/backup
else print "neither backup mount point exists, exiting"; exit 1

Does that make sense?

Best,

I used to use gmusicbrowser a couple of years ago because I have a huge

Strange that you've had problems with these players I have used all three
but have stuck with Rythmbox and Songbird. Rythmbox can play MP3 files,
makes a play list and also syncs with Ubuntu One. Both have album art
capability as well as many other features.
