[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 531208] Re: Need way to insert arbitrary unicode characters in Kubuntu
While it sounds like a legitimate issue, it seems to be kubuntu specific so not something we're likely to fix as part of the Ubuntu xorg work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 605414] Re: Nouveau in Ubuntu does not work on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M
From the upstream bug it looks like this *should* work for GeForce 8200 and 8300 cards, both in 10.04 and in Maverick. That said, laptop hardware is often weird; so while I expect that most 8200 cards work, it's entirely possible that we don't support some quirk of your laptop's 8200. If you're willing to invest a little time, it would be useful if you could grab some log files from the Maverick livecd. You should be able to get to a terminal by editing the boot options and adding “single”, and from there you'll be able to grab some logs. You can grab all the logs we want by running “apport-cli --save xorg-logs.crash xorg”, which will produce a file “xorg-logs.crash”. Attaching that to this bug would be useful. Incidentally, your linux guru was wrong. We don't hardcode nouveau - we load it by default, then if that doesn't work, we fallback to the -nv driver (which doesn't support your card), then fallback to VESA. If disabling nouveau didn't result in a working system, I'd guess that -nv tried to start and failed. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- Nouveau in Ubuntu does not work on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605414 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500461] Re: Direct3D state tracker in Gallium3D
A Direct3D state tracker wouldn't do what you think it would. In particular, a Direct3D state tracker would *not* make Windows games run, nor would it help Wine very much. I'm marking this as invalid. We're not going to do any work to make this happen in Ubuntu, and it wouldn't be very useful if we had it. ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- Direct3D state tracker in Gallium3D https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500461 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I'm going to mark this as invalid. I was considering making the DDX spit out an warning about the Tiling option, but upstream basically regards all options as debugging tools only and make no guarantees any random option won't break some part of the system. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 608295] [NEW] dual monitor not working nvidia 195.36.24Oubuntu
Public bug reported: I have a dual monitor setup, between Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7 via WUBI (severe problems already reported when tried to use strait cd setup). When I first got this working, I was annoyed that dual screen was disabled, hence worked more in Win7 than Ubuntu. About a month or 6 weeks ago, I got the second monitor working in Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04), and figured out that my mouse wasn't tracking properly between the two screens because ubuntu for some strange reason thought they were katty korner rather than vertically arranged (or even horizontally arranged as is the Win7 default). The dual display worked until about two weeks ago, when the bizarre tracking resumed--Lucid now thinks my displays are side-by-side and I can't get into System/Monitors to change it like I did before. All I get today is the message: could not get screen information: RANDR is not present. Checking synaptic, LIBXRANDR2 is present, as is x11-xserver-utils (7.5+1ubuntu2) and totem. Trying to get the dual display working, I added through synaptic 8 RANDR affiliated packages, including libxcb-randr0, gnome-randr-applet, and lxrandr (0.1.1-2). No packages were removed by synaptic during that installation. I did not try to add the developer and debugging packages because I don't have that technical expertise. FYI, I have been installing the normal ubuntu updates using update manager, though this AM wasn't able to get a ubuntu screen beyond the flash screen until I went into corrective mode and checked for and installed broken packages (8 installed/corrected before the 8 installations apparently involved in the RANDR attempt and none of the updates seemed to involve nvidia or xorg files). FYI, this machine has an Athlon 4 core processor, Biostar MB and a GeForce 9400 video card. Bug reporting via the F2 method mentioned in the Ubuntu forums is impossible. Apparently, bug packages aren't included anymore in the general releases, though today I installed aport and its 37 related files. Sorry I can't understand the Bugs/FindRightPath wiki explanation to figure out which of these files is the culprit. When I had the same problem in Win7, it was eventually solved by an nvidia tech (after 2 weeks correspondence!) using a non-intuitive solution (not the previously normal Windows/Display Properties mode--I think some system settings but I can't remember without going to the other boot, which will kill this report). There's a limit to the amount of time I'm going to spend on this--trying to report this bug has already cost me over an hour. I hope this is accurate and helpful. The system/about Ubuntu link is useless for finding the package version beyond the 10.04 I already knew since it's nearly an advertisement Ubuntu -- Linux for Human Beings. It is a poor workaround, but at least it works: 1) install using the Alternate Installer CD, make sure to set the nomodeset nosplash kernel options 2) after the installation is finished, choose rescue mode from the grub menu (it may be necessary to pass along the nomodeset nosplash options again?) 3) when rescue mode asks you what to do, choose Fail-safe X 4) copy the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe to /etc/X11/xorg.conf 5) change GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=nosplash nomodeset in /etc/default/grub 6) run update-grub You know have a working system, albeit using the VESA Xorg driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 608434] [NEW] Dual monitor instability - reverts to low graphics mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I am using a Dell Latitude D610 laptop with a Dell monitor attached, running the two screens with different windows on them. It works well, except that several times, I have returned to my desk to discover a pop up alert that tells me that it is now running in low graphics mode. After that it mirrors both monitors with the same windows, and sets them at the same resolution, forgetting that the plug in monitor can work at a higher resolution. If I then reboot the computer, it goes back to the way I had it before, with two separate monitors each doing their own thing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 608459] [NEW] X fails to come up / failed to load nvidia-kernel-module after logout
Public bug reported: I run KDE on my machine properly (3D effects work fine). Default display manager is set to gdm. System was upgraded to 10.04 LTS. When I try to logout from KDE (via Logoff menu item) screen goes blank and after some waiting I get the message that nvidia-kernel-module could not be loaded and the X-backup-server pops up. After restarting X I get a lower resolution with less colours and am able to shutdown the machine. I'd expect to be able to logout properly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 608364] Re: error no suitable mode found error unknown command terminal
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in xorg. (With many applications, you can report a future bug directly on the appropriate package by opening the application's Help menu and choosing Report a Problem. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs) ** Package changed: ubuntu = xorg (Ubuntu) -- error no suitable mode found error unknown command terminal https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/608364 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599360] Re: [Intel Arrandale] Screen flickers
Kernel: 2.6.35-020635rc5-generic Hardware: Thinkpad Edge 14 Architecture: x386 I had the same experience on similar hardware. Also adjusting brightness from keyboard is buggy. When decreasing brightness, the indicator bar reaches the bottom before the brightness is minimum. Likewise when increasing brightness, the indicator bar reaches the top before brightness is maximum. I downgraded to an earlier kernel which does not have these problems (2.6.32-23-generic-pae). Therefore this may be a regression. -- [Intel Arrandale] Screen flickers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/599360 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
