[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781983] Re: Screen becomes corrupted under normal usage

2011-05-16 Thread Jamie Dimmel
I've noticed this also on my system (Ubuntu Natty, running Ubuntu
Classic no effects without Compiz). I have a Dell 1420 laptop with an
Intel video 'card' (Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated
Graphics Controller according to Hardinfo). I notice it in the classic
Gnome panels a lot, where parts of the panels became darkened. I have
attached some screenshots showing different instances of it happening
(the corruption is the dark parts; the missing white parts are editing
on my part).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782143] Re: touch pad mouse is standard locked right after login

2011-05-16 Thread indium
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu

** Description changed:

On a MBP 6,2, Ubuntu 11.04 the touchpad works at the login screen, but
after logging in, it is disabled. Have to use an external mouse to open
pointing devices and click twice on the disable touchpad to get the
touchpad going again. That is: Please note that the GUI of pointing
devices shows that touchpad is NOT disabled when it IS disabled.

As a work-around I tried to manipulate the 'disabled' mode with
'synclient', but it is somehow overruled by 'pointing devices'. Any idea
how I can access 'pointing devices' without installing an external
mouse? Via 'Alt-F2' I cannot find 'pointing devices'.

Problem is there for Unity as well Gnome.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 710744] Re: after installing PAE kernel NVIDIA driver does not work - no GUI

2011-05-16 Thread Vincent Gerris
This bus is still present in 11.04.
I did an update from 10.10 to 11.04 with a working binary nvidia driver.
I removed the pae kernel, because of the non-working driver.

After the upgrade, the pae kernel was installed, leaving me with no gui on boot.
I had to boot another kernel and remove the pae kernel again.

** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-05-16 Thread Carsten Gräser
Also effects me. However it does not happen on any resize. But I
observed the following (only for konsole windows):

* maximazing horizontally or vertically using a hotkey sometimes triggers a
freeze
* changing the size using 'wmctrl' sometimes triggers a freeze
* the whole desktop flickers on resizing if the freeze does not happen
* if maximize/restore worked a lot of times without the freeze I get screen
artefacts with more and more 4x4 pixel blocks colored randomly
* non of these problems appears with '-notransparency'

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-05-16 Thread Guillaume Modard
I can confirm that :

- The bug is due to Switchable ATI + Intel graphics
- Both free and proprio driver do not work correctly :
-- Free Driver : Boot correctly every 5 to 10 time, without a complete support
of the ATI Graphic Card (comes very hot some time...)
-- Proprio Driver : Boot correctly every time, but with the intel integrated
graphic card (no Unity, only 2D gnome panel without effects)
- Most of the last HP laptop have this bug (= Ubuntu do note work on most of
the last HP laptop)

Is there any deadline for correct this critical bug ?
Does any team really work on it ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 526955] Re: NVIDIA X Server configuration not working

2011-05-16 Thread gero
David, thanks for this advice which inspired another workaround:

After clicking the Detect Displays button (which will recognize the
new screen and the loss of the old one) select Apply before
configuring the new screen. Only after switching to a one-screen set-up,
configure the new screen. This procedure will leave the configuration
intact.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-05-16 Thread Daniel Smedegaard Buus
Also reproducible on Lubuntu 11.04 in lxterm. Switching back and forth
between a TTY (which will be just a black screen) and X coated with a
little patience sugar will bring back interaction (just did it while
writing this). Don't know if this is due to lxdm being more stable than
gdm and kdm, or just my luck, but that's how it works in LXDE :)
Doesn't seem to happen with other windows, though (Chromium or File
Manager, although the latter may a resize corner that won't function).
Strange that it's terminal related, across gnome-terminal, konsole, and
lxterm...?!?!?!

Gonna try Szymon's workaround, thanks for that!

Hopefully the nvidia folks will have a proper fix soon.

2011-05-16 Thread Cabalbl4
For now, my bug is completely gone. But it triggers Bug #571573 (tty
loss on intel driver). The radeon and intel drivers now manage to boot
correctly, however, the TTYs are gone until I switch off intel card (to
radeon) and then turn it back on.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 571573] Re: [arrandale] no tty (freeze the system)

2011-05-16 Thread Cabalbl4
No, this bug is back ( This workaround works no more.
I have to switch card to radeon and then to intel using vgaswitcheroo and this
brings the TTYs online.
It seems that something is wrong with KMS and/or vgaswitcheroo.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-05-16 Thread Timmie
Hello,
please be extremly careful with applying suggestion #73.

IMHO, this is not the solution.

I tried and is had screwed up my graphics. Cost me some hours to find
the solution because I thought the problem came from the bootloader.

I hope that the hibernate/suspend problems with these card are fixed
soon.

The card on my laptop is already 4 years old.

are: 1) Open Firefox 2) Start a vertical scroll event on Touchpad (two-
finger scroll, in my case) 3) Remove fingers from Touchpad 4) Quickly
  hit ctrl

The results are that Firefox will start zooming in or zooming out the
page. I also experience this if I start a scroll event and quickly
switch to a different workspace -- where my Terminal will start
scrolling up or down. I would expect that the scroll event would die
when I remove my fingers from the Touchpad, and probably when a meta key
  gets hit, too.

I'm on a Thinkpad W510 on Ubuntu 11.04 using Unity. Here's all the info I can
find on my Touchpad:
  [ 10.808053] Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 7.2, id: 0x1c0b1, caps:
0xd047b3/0xb4/0xa
  [ 10.863551] input: SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input7

I do have the synaptics-dkms package installed (version 1.1.0)

proprietary drivers there are no icons in the sidebar. This is a problem
of unity.

 Title:
Flash video with hardware acceleration causes X crash with radeon
  driver

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xorg

New install of Kubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwahl. Emachines e442, Xorg
verson 1:7.6+4ubuntu3, ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility Radeon HD
4200] with the generic open source radeon driver. Viewing Flash video
in full screen on web browsers causes the Xserver to crash.

The only solution is to go to the virtual console, kill firefox with
the killall or kill -9 PID command, and restart the computer.
Restarting KDM leads to a loss of network connections.

  Steps to recreate:
  1. Open Firefox, Chrome, or Rekonq
  2. Play flash video
  3. Hit the full screen button

The bug persists when trying to view videos with hardware acceleration
enabled. Disabling hardware acceleration causes videos to start in
full screen, but exit immediately. Enabling the fglrx driver from the
Additional driver utility solves the problem, but brings on others,
not related to the flash issue.

  Additional information on demand.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 729596] Re: window controls have no effect on hover using compiz

2011-05-16 Thread David Raid
I still have this problem. It's as though the entire window decorations
are frozen. When using third party themes, the window controls have no
effect for both active and inactive windows, as well as the titles do
not change when supposed to, and only forcibly 'refresh' when you resize
the window.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 774378] Re: Touch screen does not work after upgrade to natty

2011-05-16 Thread gfb1
I hate to be Captain Obvious; but did you try the command:

xsetwacom set Device Name touch on

btw,
in my case the device name was as follows:

xsetwacom set Serial Wacom Tablet touch touch on

11.04 seems to leave touch off as a default.
other options can be set as necessary.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-05-16 Thread Jean Demange
For me the bug is still present. Almost impossible to boot on battery,
with the power plugged, boot succeed after 2 or three times. I think it
still needs some adjustments. Moreover is there any way to deactivate
this module while it doesn't work correctly ?
