Public bug reported:

This (or these kind ...) of bugs sometimes happens. No exact information
how to trigger, but it seems some kind of rapid change between
workspaces can help to trigger it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157458] Re: visual glitch

2013-03-20 Thread b3nmore
I get glitches too on a freshly installed Xubuntu 13.04beta1 (view attachment).
However in my case it's somehow correlated with the compositor (xfwm4), which
must be switched on to get the artifacts. I don't have gpu hangups.
kernel : 3.8.0-13.23
intel driver: 2.21.4

go to a black screen. And sometimes it would go into low graphics mode.
This is a crash report of it going into the low graphics made

Oh, looks like the mesa build failed to upload on i386, I've restarted
it. When there is a newer version available only on 1 arch, it always
wants to remove the other arch for some reason. Just wait a bit longer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157678] [NEW] unplugging an external monitor from laptop results in corrupted screen. Logging out fixes it.

2013-03-20 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

With updated 13.04 beta, unplugging an external monitor from laptop results in
corrupted screen. Logging out fixes it.
A screen capture looks normal (not like what the display is showing!).

Plugging an external monitor in does not produce any similar problem.

If there is really no functional problem afterwards, perhaps the recurring

2013-03-20 Thread Dave Chiluk
A similar issue was resolved for a Creative Labs headset in
https://pad.lv/1007575 with kernel 3.5.0-24.37 which has been released.

If you are running a kernel later than that and this is still occurring
please say so in a comment.

Several times? My expectation was that this was a once-per-boot event
(during KMS takeover) that will be fixed in a few kernels hence.

went black and logged me out. On returning I had a crash report, let me
know if you want me to report it (It had the same title as this report)

I edited udevtrigger.conf and it did not fix the bug.

For the first time I have noticed a lightdm crash.. I tried to report it
but it says

This problem report is damaged and cannot be processed.

ValueError('Report does not contain ProblemType field',)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993655] Re: Unity looses mouse click handler when using enabling USB headset

2013-03-20 Thread Jevonearth
The fix for 1007575/SB Arena USB headset doesn't work for this bug which
is related to a Plantronics headset.

I believe the vendor codes are different, but the actual fix may be the
same.

I tested this on Kernel 3.7 and the bug was still present. I'm running
Kernel 3.8 right now, but not in a position to verify this until later
in the week. I'm 95% sure it has not been fixed in Kernel 3.8.3-2

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993655] Re: Unity looses mouse click handler when using enabling USB headset

2013-03-20 Thread Jevonearth
I actually got time to quickly test it, and yes, this bug still affects
Plantronic headsets on Kernel 3.8.3-2

This command;
sudo rmmod usbhid sudo modprobe usbhid quirks=047f:ab01:0x04

will resolve the issue, but you need to run it every time the device
changes state, so it's not a very practical solution.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157614] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in WakeupHandler()

2013-03-20 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
It should probably check if the device is already added, instead of
blindly re-adding. :-)

I understand the drmmode part now.

It goes wrong in 3 places at the moment:

* bugs in xorg-server
  - Fix 1: drm_device_keep_trying.patch (pushed to debian git, proposed on
mailing list)
  - Fix 2: unbinding hybrid drivers doesn't work correctly at the moment,
detaching is not done correctly if it has outputs and rendering (in my local
tree, need to amend the correct patch)
  - Fix 3: Ignore add events for devices we already have added, instead of
removing/re-adding device.

* bugs in drivers:
  - all except modesetting: drmmode_init installs some handlers, and nothing
cleans them up
  - all: the drm fd is never closed, so reopening a device will always fail.

Plus perhaps some more bugs in some places, but those were the obvious
ones I found so far.

I fixed xserver-xorg-video-ati in upstream git, other drivers should be
fixable in a similar way.

2013-03-20 Thread Jacques Burger
Thanks Jevonearth, was just about to test the newer kernel, now I don't
have to.

Could a guru script something up that can detect state change and run
that command as needed?

That way we can use the Plantronics at least a little for now until a
permanent fix is available.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1137817] Re: [ivb] System freeze after high memory usage

2013-03-20 Thread rsoika
I had no luck. Also with intel_iommu=off and pcie_aspm=off I had a
freeze again yesterday and today. I used the following boot option:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=i8042.noloop intel_iommu=off pcie_aspm=off

I recognized that the system reboots after some seconds. Did you think
that we have a chance to collect some useful data during the reboot?

I will now try kernel version v3.9-rc3-raring

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155568] Re: dual monitor support broken - regression vs 12.10

2013-03-20 Thread Chris Wilson
Also at this point it is more useful to do driver testing on raring,
then we have a chance to fix it before release.

The system reboots? Interesting, that implies a panic and not
necessarily an outright hard hang. Do you have a wired network
connection and could setup netconsole?

Yes I had a wired network connection, but I could not connect via ssh. I
seems that the net work is also lost immediate when the system freezes.
So I can do nothing, except wait for the reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1067320] Re: 1002:6798 [fglrx] VT cursor is visible and blinking on top of Unity Radeon HD 7970 and 5450

2013-03-20 Thread Brendon Rapp
Along the same lines as Sebastian H., I solved this problem by disabling
framebuffer (specifically, by uncommenting the GRUB_TERMINAL=console
line in /etc/default/grub, and re-building the grub config).

I may try uvesafb like Sebastian did to restore framebuffer
functionality, but it's not a pressing issue for my use case.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157614] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in WakeupHandler()

2013-03-20 Thread Adam Bruce
Here is the lightdm crash. I notice is says I have the 'sleep 5' applied
to lightdm.conf, so I guess this means it crashed when I was booting in
successfully as thats the work around I use to login.

Is it to do with the edit I made to udevtrigger?

I can't report it as I have an obsolete package (but it says no
available updates)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157458] Re: visual glitch

2013-03-20 Thread Benjamin Drung
I saw the glich in the importance sign in Evolution several times and
the glitch looked similar every time, but I don't know how to trigger
it. I don't see that many different gliches any more besides the
mentioned ones here in the bug report. I will report back if I stumble
over other ones.

The glichtes that I tried to catch in a screenshot appear in it. Does
that mean that the bug lies somewhere above the driver, because it can
be catched in a screenshot?

GPU hangs freeze the desktop for several second or need the X server
rebooted, right? Then I don't experience GPU hangs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157458] Re: visual glitch

2013-03-20 Thread Chris Wilson
The relevence of whether it is captured in a screenshot is that it gives
a clue as to whereabout in the driver it fails - or rather it rules out
several potential candidates. A GPU hang will indeed be first noticed by
a stutter and be recorded in the kernel log - on your system, it should
not require a reboot except in exceptional circumstances.

Not sure about the libreoffice glitch, that I would say is more likely
to be a gui issue rather than driver, but you already have too many
weirds things happening that one more wouldn't surprise me.

Can you describe your freeze? Does the machine recover eventually? Does
the screen stop updating, but the cursor keep moving? Does the cursor
stop?

There's one more i915 patch that may be relevant depending upon the
exact nature of the freeze.
