[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-05-09 Thread Patrick C
@biolyasser: I tried installing a fresh copy of Mint/xfce on a spare
partition, on my machine it has the same resume problem as every other
recent distro version I've tried. The only working versions for me are
not recent: Ubuntu 13.04, 13.10 and Debian wheezy.

One interesting thing that may or may not be related: doing cat
/sys/power/state gives the following:
standby mem disk on older versions where suspend/resume works
freeze standby mem disk on versions where suspend/resume is broken

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316090] Re: Unable to drop/ place files and links on second screen in dual screen set up

2014-05-09 Thread Edward CT
I can confirm this (Xubuntu 14.04 LTS).
If the NVidia driver is used the placement grid extends over both screens, if
the XOrg nouveau driver is used, it only is present on the primary (in my case
left) screen, to which my additional screen is placed right of...
Both my screens are the same dimensions (1920x1080), on a NVidia GeForce GTX
650 TI, connected through DVI.

The root cause is we have switched from gksu to pkexec in 14.04, so we
should also add pkexec support in amdxdg-su.

sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-intel
apt-get source xserver-xorg-video-intel
cd xserver-xorg-video-intel-2.99.910/ # adjust version number if necessary
echo usr/bin/intel-virtual-output debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.install
debuild
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video-intel*.deb

Hope this helps!

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise

** Description changed:

since upgrading from LTS to XU 13.04 then XU 13.10 the acer laptop is
experiencing frequent hard lockups.
one source of lockup has been GL screensaver, so I turned it off. Still the
lockups happen
Power management for AC is also off.
The laptop does not run too hot, and the lid is up

Is there a daemon that can catch the source of the lockups?

I'm installing gnome system log viewer and are there log search terms to
  quickly find the trouble?

I've checked the system with chkrootkit but it has a fatal flaw

  Checking `aliens'.../bin/egrep:
  /dev/.bootchart/proc/sysrq-trigger: Input/output error

the same machine does not lock up under Linux Mint 15 MATE. kernel 3.8.0.xx

  Memory is tested often. 2GB
Hard disk has no errors and is tested monthly
System has been put through crashme and CPU intensive operations in order
to raise tempurature, system remains stable.

Most likely times of lockups are:
  - system left idle on AC and power manager is set to no suspend GL
screensaver activated (will lockup less often with no screensaver activated)
  - view webm or flash videos via browser and have more than ~ 800MB RAM usage
  - run glxgears full screen with some RAM usage

resulting hard lockup shows venetian blinds effect on screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318000] [NEW] Nouveau video driver does not correctly identify display on Ubuntu 14.04

2014-05-09 Thread Maarten Jacobs
Public bug reported:

I recently stepped up my machine to Ubuntu 140.04. Prior to the move, I
was running with NVidia proprietary drivers.

Today I decided to go back to the X.org drivers - however it appears
there is some issue that is preventing the XServer from correctly
identifying my displays.

It presently only uses a single display (I have two), with the wrong
resolution. It also identifies the display as Default and does not
allow me to change resolution, etc.

I noted the same issue on my laptop, where the display is identified as
Default when I use the Nouveau driver.

On my workstation I have a NVIDIA Corporation G94 [GeForce 9600 GT] (rev

On my laptop I have a NVIDIA Corporation G98M [Quadro NVS 160M] (rev

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318010] [NEW] touchpad pointer vibration on click

2014-05-09 Thread Francisco Franchetti
Public bug reported:

I'm on Ubuntu 14.04LTS, although this is probably a general synaptics driver
issue. (I hope this is the right tracker to file the bug).
This bug is regarding newer touch pads that have their buttons integrated in
the sensitive area instead of having separate buttons away from the actual
touchpad area. AKA clickpads.

Expected: to be able to use the deep or hard clicks on the touchpad
to drag and drop and right click.

What happenned:
Both when clicking and holding the click and when right clicking, there is
shaking or vibration in the pointer; this makes difficult two tasks that
are performed regularly:

Task 1: I am trying to drag and drop. I press the touchpad with one
finger and while holding, use another finger to move the object I want
to drop. The pointer shakes or vibrates while the first finger is
pressed, making it hard to deposit the item where it should. What is
wrong? Answer: The information sent by the finger that is hard
pressing the touch pad should be ignored and not be translated into
movements of the pointer.

Task 2: I want to right click on a link by hard pressing on the lower
right corner of the touch pad. The pointer jumps and misses the actual
link, right clicking somewhere else. What is wrong? The movement of the
finger after the hard press and while it is being released is still used
as input for movement; flagging the hard press and generating different
behavior after it should solve the problem.

These problems do not happen in windows, it is not a bad quality
hardware issue, it is a driver tweaking issue.

The general idea: fix the driver for this kind of new touch pad by
filtering the information sent from the sensitive area when hard
clicks are detected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318024] [NEW] right click with double tap

2014-05-09 Thread Francisco Franchetti
Public bug reported:

I am on Ubuntu 14.04; my Laptop is an Acer Aspire v5-573;

Expected: when right clicking by double tapping I expect the double
click to succeed even if each of the fingers touches the pad with a
slight separation of time.

What happens: it is extremely hard to right click, especially after
completing a pointer movement. many times the right click is mistakenly
confused with a regular one click tap. I have tried to practice and come
to the conclusion that the right click requires too much precision in
the tapping in the sense that both fingers need to tap almost exactly at
the same time. also, doing it slowly does not help, the taps are not
recognized as such.

This simply requires some tweaking of the underlying config values. I
would be happy to test, modify them myself if given some ideas on which
values to tamper with. Hopefully they are in some xml file and do not
require recompiling the drivers.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1307701]

2014-05-09 Thread Bugs-i
Created attachment 98694
xorg-integration-tests testcase try 2

Ok so I've finally isolated the problem. The problem is the XIGrabDevice
on the slave pointer, which is only removed after the touch ends. When
this happens the ButtonRelease call for pointer emulation is never
generated, leading to the 'stuck button' bug.

Modifying qt to listen to touch events on the master fixes it and
removes the need for the XIGrabDevice call. The grab was originally done
to prevent pointer emulation events, but these won't get generated when
we listen for touch events on the master, solving both problems.

But this is still a bug in xorg-server, regardless. :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066464] Re: Please patch xserver-xorg-video-sis (was: SiS driver crashes Xserver with EXA acceleration)

2014-05-09 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
KWandi, you should use the xorg.conf below to switch to VESA driver to
get decent resolution (but it won't be 1280x800). Apparently, the
patched sis driver works for some chips, but not others (which is why I
suggested it should not be installed by default...).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318092] Re: SIS 761GX llvmpipe Resolution Issues

2014-05-09 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
llvmpipe is the expected 3D driver. There is no 3D hardware acceleration
for SiS GPU's on Linux (and there probably never will be unless someone
wants to reverse engineer it).

As for resolution issues, see if forcing vesa driver helps (you may be
falling back on fbdev driver). https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318119] [NEW] corrupted graphics on cirrus (in qemu)

2014-05-09 Thread Dax kelson
Public bug reported:

Running 14.04 LTS inside of qemu-kvm with its emulated cirrus gpu that
uses 24bpp frontbuffers causes broken rendering. 12.04 LTS worked fine
with no corruption on the same qemu-kvm host.

RHEL7 public beta had the same problem
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1074106).

RHEL7 Release Candidate applied this patch:

http://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/18244/

From the patch:

So we have 2 places where gpus with 24bpp frontbuffers are still
in use, cirrus (in qemu) and some early variants of the mgag200
server chips.

Currently we seem to get a lot of broken rendering in qt, mesa, gnome
if we expose the frontbuffer as 24bpp, nobody seems to test this
anymore upstream so client side apps are constantly broken, so lets
just make -modesetting expose a 24/32 shadow frontbuffer, and use
the shadow update hook to convert down to the actual 24bpp front,
this might be slower, but its correct and really anyone that wants
this already has enough problems.

Ubuntu version: 14.04 LTS
Effected version: xserver-xorg-video-modesetting-0.8.1-1build1

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-modesetting (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308003] Re: Black squares after suspend in 14.04

2014-05-09 Thread Brian Norris
Potential duplicate of bug #1301206?

Regarding workarounds: Adam Benfer's comment works for me: An alternate
way of getting rid of the black bars is to go to a console (e.g. Ctrl +
Alt +F1) and come back (i.e. Ctrl + Alt + F7)
