[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776946] Re: xinput_calibrator shows incorrect path for xorg.conf.d
This is not a bug and should be closed as invalid. There are two xorg.conf.d locations. The xorg.conf.d located at /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d is for the Distro. Users should not be adding custom .conf files in this location as they may be overwritten by the Distro. The location for user custom .conf files is /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d and that is where xinput_calibrator should be suggesting its calibration .conf be placed. This is per Peter Hutterer a X.org developer. It looks like Ubuntu usually doesn't have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d directory by default so simply make one. The /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d runs after the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d and what runs last controls. So the 99 xinput_calibrator suggests for the calibration .conf file number is maybe a bit excessively high. 52 or so would be fine. Actually if there is a bug here it is that the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d directory is not present by default. A README in it and /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d should explain where to place custom .conf files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xinput-calibrator in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776946 Title: xinput_calibrator shows incorrect path for xorg.conf.d To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xinput-calibrator/+bug/776946/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770082] Re: missing 10-wacom.conf
It is true a number of users reported using DoctorMO's ( Martin Owens) PPA: https://launchpad.net/~doctormo/+archive/wacom-plus and then ending up with a non-functional tablet due to a missing 10-wacom.conf. I assumed that a update of the PPA shortly after the hypothetical problem update had incorporated the packaging error. I reasoned it couldn't be the PPA responsible for the missing configuration file because the majority of users reported only having installed vanilla Lucid plus official updates. I recall looking at the PPA at the time and not spotting a problem there either. And yes, it has been a long, long time since I installed the default Lucid xf86-input-wacom-0.10.5. It is just so early in xf86-input-wacom development. And as you know the 0.10.x tree was for code reorganization and not really intended for users. The 0.11.x tree was originally the series intended for widespread user use/testing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770082 Title: missing 10-wacom.conf To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/770082/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770082] Re: missing 10-wacom.conf
There was a rash of missing 10-wacom.conf's in I guess March 2011? Our speculation at the time was that it was due to an update since several Wacom users reported their tablet stopped working after some sort of xserver update. We never pinned down a culprit update. I waited a few weeks or better before posting this bug report to ensure the issue was persisting. But okey doke. I'll just continue showing users whose Wacom tablets aren't working due to a lack of a 10-wacom.conf, for whatever mysterious reason, how to install it manually. As I have been doing the last eight months. After all there's less than 18 months to go. I should have kept a running total. 40-50 by now? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770082 Title: missing 10-wacom.conf To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/770082/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770082] Re: missing 10-wacom.conf
Hi Fabio, I've always assumed this was a packaging bug. The newer upstream xf86 -input-wacom versions will try to write a 50-wacom.conf to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d. It's not aware of the Debian/Ubuntu custom location /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d for kernel 2.6.32's hybrid X server 1.7. Maybe an extra rule to direct the 10-wacom.conf to the correct place was inadvertently dropped from the xserver-xorg-input-wacom package? Or if the .conf is packaged with other .conf's in another package it was inadvertently left out?

This bug results in the Wacom input tools being 180 degrees out of phase from the expected motion when they are rotated with a xsetwacom script or by a rotation applet to right or left Portrait orientation. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 786952] Re: Wacom Bamboo Pen - Pressure too sensitive
ODDie is basically correct. It turns out to be an error in the linux- input kernel commit for the Bamboo Pen in wacom_wac.c. The pressure is erroneously set to 255 instead of 1023: static const struct wacom_features wacom_features_0xD4 = { Wacom Bamboo Pen, WACOM_PKGLEN_BBFUN, 14720, 9200, 255, 63, BAMBOO_PT }; A submission correcting the mistake will be made shortly to linux-input. In the meantime on Natty you could use the wacom.ko from input-wacom. HOW TO compile and install it is described on the Bamboo PT HOW TO: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1515562 or the Linux Wacom Project mediawiki site. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782756] Re: USB Graphire4 pad buttons stop working after pen input
We have a fix. Jason Gerecke, another linux wacom developer, happened to have a Graphire4 to test with. Chris Bagwell's patch (attached) against a recent kernel git was tested by Jason and works. It should be submitted upstream to the kernel's linux-input at some point. Connor and kopiwie, I don't know when and if Ubuntu would back port this fix into Natty. There seems little chance of regression with it. In the meantime you could use input-wacom-0.11.0 for its wacom.ko. Compiling it is also described in the HOW TO linked above. Jason said it worked for him because it already had the line: input_event(input, EV_MSC, MSC_SERIAL, 1); in it. So you could try it and see if it does the job. You may not need to add the other line if it works ok for you. ** Patch added: graphire.diff https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/782756/+attachment/2153586/+files/graphire.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/782756 Title: USB Graphire4 pad buttons stop working after pen input ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782756] Re: USB Graphire4 pad buttons stop working after pen input
Good news. We have a linux wacom developer willing to help us. I posted Connor's annotated Xorg.0.log and Chris Bagwell said: For first bug report, it does sound same issue as I looked into a while back. The kernel driver is mistakenly telling userland that the PAD device has gone out of proximity when you use pen. From that point, buttons don't work. Something has changed in xf86-input-wacom that we must l trust kernel information more then we used to. My personal reference is to fix the kernel to give us good info instead of reverting back to old xf86-input-wacom behavior. ... Or hopefully we can find a user that doesn't mind hacking kernel drivers. I can give tons of guidance on patch to implement (its like 3 lines for simple solution) but ultimately I can't push forward much more since I don't have the device. Chris is saying likely minimal changes are needed to wacom_wac.c in the kernel in order to fix this issue. And getting the Ubuntu kernel source code to patch is easy, as is compiling it. If you don't know how look in Appendix 1 at this HOW TO: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1038949 So if you're interested in helping with this issue and have a Graphire4 or other tablet with this issue (presumably because it also uses the Graphire logic) please join the discussion on linuxwacom-discuss: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linuxwacom-discuss Currently the thread is titled Graphire4 Pad Button freeze with 0.10.11. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 782756] Re: USB Graphire4 pad buttons stop working after pen input
kopwie it would help to know the model and product ID. The model is on the back of the tablet and you can get the product ID by entering 'lsusb' in a console. The Wacom line will contain the product ID, please post it. Connor you've ruled out a hardware problem with the buttons, and since the mouse driver works for them, implicated xf86-input-wacom. In your Xorg logs I don't see an error related to the button freeze. I see a lot of activity around multiple repeats of: [ 1044.700] (EE) Wacom Graphire4 4x5 stylus: Error reading wacom device : No such device Which is, I assume, you hot plugging the tablet after a button freeze. If it is xf86-input-wacom let's see if we can get a trace of the error in the Xorg logs by adding debug statements to the 50-wacom.conf usb snippet. Add: Option CommonDBG 12 Option DebugLevel 12 under the Driver wacom line. We may need to set up a dependent device snippet for pad and use DebugLevel in it. In addition to this possibly related bug report: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input- wacom/+bug/782756 a couple of forum members have reported what sounds like the same bug. A Cintiq: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1062625page=5 and a Bamboo: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10819283postcount=751 Interestingly the Cintiq user has now moved on to Debian testing (Wheezy) and even after updating to xf86-input-wacom-0.11.0 no longer sees the segmentation fault with his touch strips or pad buttons as he did in Natty. Neither did he see it in Maverick. So this does not appear to be a xf86-input-wacom bug. Or at least not solely. I do not encounter this issue with my Bamboo Pen and Touch tablet.
