there's a new synaptics driver version in trusty now (1.7.3), can you
reproduce this bug with it?

Please stop recommending people to update their bios, it doesn't fix
anything and is a risky procedure.

2014-01-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Maarten Lankhorst, thanks for commenting towards this bug report. From
personal experience, and others on Launchpad, utilizing the latest BIOS
has addressed a myriad of problems, including touchpad issues (myself
included). However, if you prefer not to see BIOS updates occur, I'm not
going to argue with you.

2014-01-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael Faath, thank you updating your BIOS. As a WORKAROUND, would using
syclient via the following terminal command allow for the cursor to be less
jumpy:
syclient MinSpeed=1.2 MaxSpeed=2.4 AccelFactor=0.045

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269928] Re: Jumpy Mouse Cursor using Thinkpad X230 Touchpad

2014-01-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael Faath, as per your
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/162675739/BootDmesg.txt :
[0.179772] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored

As well, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html, an update to your
BIOS is available (2.59). If you update to this, does it change anything? If
it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output
of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.

** Description changed:

The touchpad moves the mouse cursor multiple pixels at once, when using
the trackpoint or an external mouse it works fine.
-
- This is the same issue as described in #1042069
- (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
- synaptics/+bug/1042069), same hardware, same problem. I was advised to
- open another report for reasons of clarity.
