[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455598] Re: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST)
Yes it does. I attached the file to this post. also, i found out that working with the 2x 4k screens (and the laptop- builtin-screen disabled), it goes into slumber or powerdown mode. If it does, i can't succesfully get it out and have to restart the machine. I'm gonna test some more on that, but it might be related to switching back to 3 screens afer coming out of slumber. ** Attachment added: _usr_bin_Xorg.0.crash.7z https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1455598/+attachment/4405952/+files/_usr_bin_Xorg.0.crash.7z -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455598 Title: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1455598/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455598] Re: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST)
D, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is manually attached. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. If you run the command against the crash report and a window pops up asking you to report this, but then never opens a new report, you would be affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/994921 . In order to WORKAROUND this, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Please feel free to subscribe me to this new report. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455598] Re: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST)
Hi, sorry it took a while, i wasn't home for a while. I have some news to report; - I've updates the bios to A08, 03/03/2015 (the output from dmidecode), but if i connect the laptop (with the laptopscreen enabled) to the 2x 4k screens, it just logs me out. - I've found that if i disable the laptopscreen and try to use 2x 4k, it works!. Everything is really small though.. ;-) - i was running ubuntu 14.10 and did an inplace upgrade. not sure if this is relevant - a friend of mine is running the newer XPS13 and he has lots of problems connecting just one external monitor on 4k on ubuntu 15.04. I'm not sure its related, but i just wanted to say if it is, we can do some tests on that platvorm too. We also have an precision M3800 we could test. What to do/test next? ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455598 Title: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1455598/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

D: ...if i connect the laptop (with the laptopscreen enabled) to the 2x 4k screens, it just logs me out. This should be captured as an xorg crash file in /var/crash. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1455598] Re: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST)
D, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/xps-12-9q33/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A08). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a08 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1455598 Title: connecting 2x 4k displays in ubuntu 15.04 with daisy chain displayport (MST) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1455598/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
