[VFB] Re: Were might I find some non-tapered fly fishing lines? Any suggestions?
I saw one on Amazon the other day. Less than 6 bucks: http://www.amazon.com/South-Bends-Ivory-Floating-Level/dp/B0028P5DZC (This is my first post, by the way...) -- Sean McGee New Braunfels, TX -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VFB Mail group. I'm pretty sure it's new...the thing that made me shy away from it was the line weight was unavailable. [VFB] Good fly (so far) on the Guadalupe.
So, I took the Guadalupe Green Fly and bastardized it into my own bead- head pattern with no hackles. This is the result. Pattern works well in yellow, white, black, chartreuse and olive. Caught 5 bass with it this past weekend, plus a whole bunch of panfish and one Rio Grande Cichlid. (The Cichlid turned out to be one awesome fighter on a fly rod!) Haven't tried it on trout yet. Don't have access to the trout sections of the Guad. Anyhow, thought I'd share. I'm calling it a Bead Head Lupe after my home waters. http://snapguide.com/guides/tie-a-bead-head-lupe-fly/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VFB Mail group. [VFB] Re: Good fly (so far) on the Guadalupe.
I know lead is taboo in some fly circles, (so don't eviscerate me, lol) but to get an even heavier fly beyond the bead, I've been tying in some lead before I wrap the marabou. This is a great, easy fly to tie, and best of all, doesn't require a lot of exotic materials. Didn't know it had been tied in this way before! (The closest thing I saw to it was the Guadalupe Green I saw on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2WMh4G0dXk). [VFB] Re: Good fly (so far) on the Guadalupe.
Oh, don't worry! Don't feel upstaged! I've just been having a lot of success with this pattern lately, and couldn't remember seeing it in any of my books or online. I will re-name it! :) On Apr 17, 1:14 pm, Anthony Spezio bambot...@yahoo.com wrote: Sean, I am not trying to upstage you on this and yes, it has been tyed for many years. It is called the one Marabou Plume fly. I have been teaching it in my beginner classes. It is a simple and easy fly to tie and the students are happy that they got to tie a fly. On the Creek and the White river, Burnt Orange seems to work the best. Next best color is Florescent Green.
