Question regarding lock screen on iPad with VoiceOver IOS 8.1
Hello, A friend of mine is using IOS8.1 with VoiceOver on an iPad. He is a novice user of the device and we noticed that when he attempts to unlock the iPad either via swiping three fingers to the right on the screen or trying to find the unlock button that the screen sometimes locks. As he is still getting used to the device, I was wondering whether there is a way to slow down the lock feature on the unlock screen so that he can find the button and unlock it? I have tried setting the autolock to never and also enabling the assistive touch feature; however, autolock is only when the device is unlocked and assistive touch does not seem to have a feature for this purpose. Thank you in advance for any assistance -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. RE: Visual Brailler
Hello Jennie, I don't know anything about Visual Brailler; however, there is a 6-key input free software program you can use to type Braille directly into your computer. This software does not use any translation so one cannot cheat, so to speak. It was developed and maintained by Duxbury and it's called Perky Duck. This software works very well on Windows and I believe there is now a Mac version, also. What I like most about this little utility is that if you have a Braille input device such as a Focus 40 you may use it. If you do not have a hardware Braille input device you may use the computer's keyboard to enter the dots, just as if you were working on a Perkins Braille writer. Give Duxbury a call or Google the info. It's basically a Braille text editor. You create the files, save them, and then email them off to your instructor who can open the file with Duxbury. The files are saved with an extension that can only be created by Perky Duck. In short, Perky Duck is a scaled-down version of the Duxbury Braille Translator; it was developed for just such a purpose as you stated in your original post. I used Perky Duck to acquire both my Braille transcription and Braille literary proofreading licenses. Re: How do I improve dictation with Siri
There are a few keywords you can add for punctuation, but you have to say them right on the end of the last word, or it gets written as another word. Things like Comma, Dot, Question, Exclaim. I say is that YouComma GoodDot. That looks silly in real writing, but sending a text reading like it is too. I say the word and the comma in one breath, then pause as you do, and continue. This work most the time. But practice practice, and check before you send of course. Re: How do I improve dictation with Siri
Also, it should be noted that in an edit text field you don't necessarily have to find and press the dictate button to start dictation. While in an edit field, double tap anywhere with two fingers to start dictation and again to stop it when you're done. Shawn Sent from my White MacBook On May 12, 2015, at 12:18 AM, Terry-Ann Saurmann tsaurm...@access4less.net wrote: Hi Terry, In addition to using the dictation feature that Siri has to offer, the IOS devices also have a Dictate function, that can be used when in the text editing field of a message or an email, just to the left of the space character, near the bottom left of the screen, there is a Dictate button. Using a single-finger double tap will open the microphone, at which time you begin your dictation. When finished, you close the mic with a two-finger double tap. I believe this feature allows for thirty seconds of speech at a time, at which point the microphone closes. However, you can do the single-finger double tap to start dictating again. You can also include punctuation as part of what you are speaking, just as you would if you were typing. This is much preferred for the reader of your text or email, so that the words do not all run together. If you want to begin a new line of text, just say, new line. Whether you are using this dictate feature or that of Siri, once you have completed your dictation, you want to place your finger in the middle of the screen to highlight the message itself, at which point you will want to do a single-finger double tap to move the cursor to the top of the screen. Set your rotor to words to read word by word, or to characters to read one character at a time. To read ahead one character or word at a time, flick one finger repeatedly downward. To go back one character or word at a time, flick one finger up toward the top of the screen. When making corrections, you want to put the cursor to the right (or below) the character you want to erase and then press the delete key which is located toward the bottom, right-hand side of the screen, just below the letter L. When inserting text, I place it below the last correct character, and if necessary, I put a space ahead of the character(s) if I am replacing an entire word. You can select strings of characters for cutting, copying, or deleting text all at once, but that is for another time. Again with either the dictate function, or if using Siri, when dictating your text, you want to do so in a normal speaking voice, speaking clearly, without over enunciating or separating your words, so that they do not become distorted. However, I find that the names of people are the words that are the most frequently misunderstood. Finally, in case you are not already aware of this, the text editing field in an email is located several flicks to the right of the Send button, whereas the textthe edit field of a text message, is found one flick to the left of the send button . I hope this helps. Re: importing audiobook into voice dream
Hi, Be sure the CD track names are such that they'll play in order. Then when you're done importing, zip all the files into one folder and use Dropbox or iTunes file sharing to get that zipped folder into Voice dream Reader. It will unzip the whole book into one folder and play the files chronologically by filename. Re: Visual Brailler
Hi Mark, thanks for jogging my memory about PerkiDuck. I didn’t know there was a Mac version for this software. The one thing I remembered trying to use PerkiDuck with my PC laptop was that not all keyboards would work with it. I have been able to do 6 key input on my Dell 4110 laptop through Duxbury, so I would think it would work with PerkiDuck. This is good to know that Hadley can print it out in braille once they receive the file. I believe I understood that part of the post. If not, please inform me. I always thought PerkiDuck was only to practice the input of braille. Thanks again. Eileen On May 12, 2015, at 12:53 AM, M. cleaning up an IPhone
Hi, all. I'm asking this question for someone who isn't on the list. He has a 16 gig IPhone 4S. He has about 4 pages of apps, no pictures, music, books or movies. He's being told he has 0 bytes free. I recall that there is an app for cleaning up the phone, but can't find what it's called. Could an app like that be helpful for him, or is there something else he should do? Thanks. God bless! re-booting the phone
I got the following from another list. I haven't heard of doing it this way. Has anyone heard of this method? Is there truth to it? Thanks. Absolutely no reason to reboot unless you like it, tht is daily reboots. Most times when you encounter something strange just press the lock switch 5 times or 6 to be sure and the phone will reboot without a restart. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. They should go to settings, general, usage and double tap on the first button that says manage storage. That will show all the apps and how much space they are using. Re: Christianaudio app
Christianaudio is as I say the same type service as Audible.com, but the material is christian oriented, teachings, sermons, christian fiction and non fiction, classics. Their website is www.christianaudio.com You can sign up and get credits built up, and buy your books with credits. You can get one a month or as much as 8 a month I think it is depending on the type of subscriptin you get; and they keep building up. So while you pay for the membership I use my credits to get books. I love it. It is the only place so far I have been able to find the books my pastors have written. Well except for another site I can't think of its name you can get texts of Christian material and maybe audio bibles, but I read my pastor's book and there were errors in it. Anyhow I digress. It is just a site to get books that are of a Christian nature. Hope that helps. Re: How do I improve dictation with Siri
I've noticed with dictation that using the proper voice enflection works wonders. For example, at the end of a sentense, with your voice, pause before starting the next one. When asking a question, make sure your voice sounds like your asking a question and of course, at the end of a sentense say the word period or at the end of a question say the word question mark. The software keeps getting better but you have to do your part as well. I've also noticed that many people mumble. Perhaps they do it because they want greater privacy or they don't want people to think their nuts? grin Dictation does require a bit of practice. HTH! I was wondering, is there a way to improve dictation with Siri, using an iPhone for S? I love my phone, and I love to use dictation. Especially when I am texting. I am rather slow at typing, so the dictation works better for me. Although, I do want to improve my typing skills. However, a lot of times when I can like to dictate something, the phone messes up terribly! Sometimes it misses a word up so badly, that people have to ask me what I meant. The problem is that I don't know how to fix a message, or email, once it is messed up. Is there possibly a way to make make dictating easier? Is there a way to get the phone to understand words more clearly? If so, how do I go about doing this? Today, it called my friend Beth, Eric. I don't know how it came up with that word. I was stumbling either. Sometimes it will call her things like, Bath, both, booze, and other similar things like that. This I can sort of understand at least they sound similar. I find that you dare not pause too long when dictating directly to Siri or she will think you are done with the message. It helps to have no other noise around such as a tv or talking book. I also hold the phone close try to speak very clearly, sometimes pronouncing letters I would ordinarily not pronounce. An example of this is Beth. It hasn't cut out, it is very clear, etc. I've never had that good of customer service from any other online store. Re: Media Players that support Audiobus?
I'm just looking for something that lets me listen to the sound from a biofeedback program along with an mp3 of my choosing, such as a guided meditation. As for the biofeedback app, see www.choosemuse.com for more info. It's accessible! Chris -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: Media Players that support Audiobus?
I wonder if you can play from the library with Audioshare? Also, Boss Jock allows you to use Audio Bus, and you can load, I think 6 decks with files that you can play, record, and talk over them while the output goes through audio bus to somewhere. I don't think there's anything like the built-in music app that does it though, but I could be wrong. - Original Message - From: Chris Smart csma...@cogeco.ca To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, May 12, 2015 10:34 PM Subject: Media Players that support Audiobus? Hi folks. I'm about to start playing with Audiobus, but not for Garage Band and other music making apps. So far, I just need to find a music/media player that supports Audiobus connectivity. Any recommendations? For example, does the standard iOS Music app work with Audiobus? If not, what would you suggest instead? thanks Chris -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Re: How do I rename a photo?
Hi iOS doesn't include a file manager so you can't freely rename photos. Here is a link that explains more about this. http://felixidea.com/how-to-rename-photos-on-iphone/ Sent from my iPhone On May 11, 2015, at 6:28 PM, princessterr...@gmail.com wrote: Hello everyone. Zoom IQ6 with Voiceover
Hi All, I recently bought the IQ6 mike for the ios device. How can I use the mike with the voiceover? Whenever I plug in the mike on the lightning connecter, it kills voiceover immediately. Re: How do I improve dictation with Siri
Hi Sherry, you can avoid Siri timing out by keeping the Home button held down, then releasing it as soon as you're finished. The added benefit of this is that Siri acts on your instruction or dictation the moment you're finished, so it's all just a bit snappier. Re: Zoom IQ6 with Voiceover
Hi Joanne, you'll need to connect a headset to the 3.5mm jack on the IQ6 itself. I don't use Bluetooth headphones so they may work as well, someone may be able to comment on that. But definitely the headphone port does the trick.
