Also there is a western digital app for your phone / ipad that will possibly let you find the drive if on your network and then let you look at or work with files on the drive. Hello Malcolm, You are quite correct. I, too, have a router that allows USB connected storage devices to be seen on the network. While I can see and open all of the volumes, USB included, on my Windows 7, Windows 10, and Mac OS Catalina computers, the volumes cannot be opened in either the native iOS or iPad OS files app. To be more specific, from within the iOS / iPad OS app, I can actually see the mounted volumes on the network, but cannot open them as either an admin or as a guest. Well, have either of you called Apple Accessibility? If the server route doesn't work, then short of buying an adapter to access the USB source directly, or buying the other file browsing app you mentioned sound like the only options. File Browser from Stratospherix among other apps can access the USB drive attached to the router whereas I cannot get Apple’s Files app to do so.
