Re: Interesting observation re my problems with fingerprint recognition
I don't have a case on my phone so can't say whether that would negatively effect the fingerprint reading. The recognition has been pretty reliable since I started using the power button to wake up the phone. On 2/5/16, 'Ray T. Interesting observation re my problems with fingerprint recognition
In light of our recent discussion of the fingerprint recognition on the iPhone I have something interesting to report. I've been doing some very unscientific testing with my iPhone 6 and have found the following. When attempting to unlock the phone with my fingerprint, if I press the lock button on the side of the device while holding my thumb over the home button, nine times out of ten my print will be recognized and the phone will unlock. If however, I press the home button to unlock, the opposite is true and nine times of ten the recognition will fail. I don't know what this means but I thought it was interesting. Re: Interesting observation re my problems with fingerprint recognition
Hi! I don't have problems like that with my 6S Plus. It is unlocking all the time and the errors appear only if I don't put my finger to cover the whole sensor. Regarding the article mentioned in his thread, it is from 2013. with the actual 5S fingerprint sensor and it is out of date because I didn't experience he single thing mentioned in that article. For instance, I scanned my thumb and the point finger in the portrait position so the fingers were put parallely with the longer side edges. I'm able to unlock my phone if I put my fingers vertical on the sensor so it is paralel with the bottom/top edges of the device. Re: Interesting observation re my problems with fingerprint recognition
I agree, the 6S is super fast at recognizing a fingerprint. It is so fast that if I don't want the phone to unlock, I have to use another finger to push the home button. Yes, sometimes I just want to look at the new notifications without unlocking the phone. It is much faster recognition than my previous phone. Ok, if my 5s is locked, I still need to press the power button but that's a quick press. When the phone opens then I need to touch the sensor to unlock my phone. Alternitivly I can use the on screen key pad to type in my 4 character pass word but why bother. Now if my finger is sticky or dirty, the finger print reader might not work in which case I then just manually type my 4 digit code in. Does that help any? Re: Interesting observation re my problems with fingerprint recognition
I updated my ipad not long after I got it and the censor went away. Before that I could put my finger on the home button and it would put in the code, now I have to type it in. And I think my finger is clean, I'd not put a sticky finger on my devices, or I would hope I wouldn't, grin. Re: Interesting observation re my problems with fingerprint recognition
So if your phone is locked and you place your finger on the home button, it unlocks without you having to press the home button or anything? Because I have to press either the home button or the button on the side to unlock the phone regardless of whether I use the fingerprint or enter the passcode. The pressing of some button has to come first. I guess I'm not understanding either. On 2/4/16, Alan Paganelliwrote: > I'm not quite sure I understand what your doing.
