[Bug 38843] Refine behavior of the wbsetitem API module
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38843 jeb...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||jeb...@gmail.com --- Comment #3 from jeb...@gmail.com 2012-08-07 09:50:57 UTC --- The wbsetitem was initially an module for development support only, but has since been the module preferred by the some of the bot programmers. As such there is one mode of operation that is important; set those fields from the item that are specified and leave the rest of the fields unchanged. The primary use case is to add or remove a number sitelinks and leave the rest as they are. To replace the whole list with a new one will make it necessary to do an additional query, and also introduce a race condition. To make the operation as similar as possible an set operation was used for aliases, that is also motivated by what was simplest to implement, but should operate on an add/remove -basis and not replacing the whole list. Labels and descriptions should replace whats presently set, including remove the value. Sitelinks should be set and removed. A solution might be to give the new values as operational objects that carry an operation and additional parameters. This makes it possible to specify if a value should be replaced, set, added or removed - or something completely else. I wonder if there are some kind of more generic modules that are so alien to the core project scope that they really should be created and maintained outside the project, perhaps as separate extensions. For example get-modules more in line with the ordinary query-modules, and probably also set-modules with more iterator-like behavior. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

This seems because hidden divs do not seem to be set to 'display:none' but only to 'opacity:0' from the very beginning. As a solution I added this bit of code to showDiv function in SemanticForms.js if ( jQuery(this).css('opacity') == 0 ) { jQuery(this).css('opacity', 1); } but I guess this might be solved from the beginning, assigning 'display:none' to associated radiobutton div, and not only 'opacity:0'. Awesome! Yeah I saw the Gerrit branch yesterday. And I was thinking about that as well (the recursive layers idea). Unfortunately, to create a proper implementation of such a feature, a given layer would have to be compatible with any other type of hash. [Bug 28419] Replace MD5 password hashing with WHIRLPOOL
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28419 --- Comment #71 from Daniel Friesen mediawiki-b...@nadir-seen-fire.com 2012-08-07 14:41:41 UTC --- (In reply to comment #70) (In reply to comment #69) - I've cleaned the code up some more and added some more documentation. - Implemented password upgrading. - Switched to the test-cases-in-implementation style. - Separated the PBKDF2-HMAC implementation into it's own method and prepared the system for hash_pbkdf2 to be used when released. - Implemented login form and api handling for the new password system. A Gerrit branch is being created so the code will end up in the repo soon. The code is pretty much complete at this point. However I'm still mulling over how to handle recursive layer password types like a PEPPER type that adds a fixed salt not stored in the database but does it without mandating what password type you use. Awesome! Yeah I saw the Gerrit branch yesterday. I asked for the branch but the ability to push was never setup. Then I was told that Gerrit has private sandboxes and I could have actually pushed the code directly there and had them create a branch based off of it. So now I'm waiting for someone to either setup push or drop the branch and have me push to my private sandbox. And I was thinking about that as well (the recursive layers idea). Unfortunately, to create a proper implementation of such a feature, a given layer would have to be compatible with any other type of hash. That means that each layer would either a) have to use every possible option (impossible) or b) only use things that are common to all hash types. Yeah layering is really tricky. I can't think of a way to implement actual pepper (ie: a static config based salt) without involving an extra complex api, restrictions that get in the way of flexibility, restrictions that make pepper only work on specific implementations, or forcing pepper to be re-implemented for every type. The only alternative I could think of was to make an encryption layer rather than a pepper layer. Instead of peppering the salt the layer's output would contain a key to indicate which shared secret is used and an IV. The next big blob of raw data would be decrypted with the shared secret and then would be passed through Password::verify (ie: The blob of data would be encrypted password data output from Password::crypt()). That would let us create a layer that serves the same purpose of making password data useless without the config file even though we're using encryption instead of pepper. This might actually also have the advantage of working in password types where it's impossible to control the salt and data format. eg: A crypt() like system where you can't specify the salt would still work. ;) It's a fairly worthless fact, but this would also mean our worthless saltless :A: md5 hash would actually be compatible with this tactic. ((I was actually going to try writing it, until I found that mcrypt is not installed on my laptop and it's hell to try to install it in OSX)) Oh btw, do you have a better name than BasePasswordType that does not involve the word Hash? OnewayPasswordType KeyCompareHashType, ... bleh I sort of want a better name than BasePasswordType but I'm really trying to avoid perpetuating the lie of calling these a hash because we're not storing hashes. These cease to be cryptographic hash algorithms the moment we start introducing things like salts. What we're doing is practically key derivation rather than hashing. But trying to jump into something like DKeyPasswordType will just be confusing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

To improve this I suggest two options: * Include some text and link to the proofreading page of a translation as well as the translation page when delivering the notification. * The other option is to have a seperate notification option for proofreading that can be delivered when translation is completed. The latter option is useful for a high demand project such as the fundraiser where translations are being continuously monitored, but there is a downside in that it would increase talk page traffic. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39099 --- Comment #8 from Tyler Romeo tylerro...@gmail.com 2012-08-07 19:31:09 UTC --- So to list the problems: 1) foreach error - No idea why this is happening. This is a bug in the core. 2) callto scheme error - Can be fixed by adding callto: to allowed protocols. 3) invalid URL error - This is because PHP's parse_url does not handle empty URLs, i.e., only a protocol. I cannot seem to reproduce any of these errors on a base MW installation unfortunately, but I'm still looking. Hopefully somebody else has an idea of where these invalid URLs are coming from. The only reason you're getting these warnings now and not previously is because the original URL functions just returned false on error rather than actually issuing a warning. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 34703] Unable to change file extension while uploading file
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34703 --- Comment #4 from Marcin Cieślak marcin.cies...@gmail.com 2012-08-07 19:47:34 UTC --- Thanks for taking this up. I would say the dropdown is an overkill. Maybe just extension added at the end of the filename with the dot. However, it might be difficult to determine whether the intention was to add an extension or some dotted segment (some.file.name - do we accept this?). Maybe if the filename ends with . + one of the allowed extensions, it is left as-is? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 34703] Unable to change file extension while uploading file
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34703 --- Comment #5 from Mark Holmquist mtrac...@member.fsf.org 2012-08-07 19:51:51 UTC --- Hm. A big concern of mine is that less-experienced users might see an error message like incompatible filetype and not know what to do. For those users, it would almost certainly be nicer to not even allow the mistakes that might cause the error. We already have plenty of confusing error messages in UW, I'm not about to add another one! The more I think about this, the more I think it might be better to solve this problem with a server-side configuration setting--let the site admins specify that they want all file extensions (upper|lower)case, and then perform that operation on the client-side before upload. Maybe that's the way to solve this, because there's no burden on the user whatsoever, and it would make things look a lot more uniform. Thoughts? (also, I'm not currently working on this, but I might during the next UW sprint, which is coming up soonish) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 39053] New file uploaded should inherit category where upload was started
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39053 --- Comment #2 from Marcin Cieślak marcin.cies...@gmail.com 2012-08-07 19:54:25 UTC --- When I started to pay more attention to the workflow I noticed that it is more and more useful to me. I uploaded a derivative work today (a vector silhouette of animal's head out of the foto) and I actually wanted to have the same categories. I was thinking more about something along the lines of a separate Upload here button (on a sidebar)? If you start with it, you are clearly uploading a derivative or similar work. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34703 --- Comment #6 from Marcin Cieślak marcin.cies...@gmail.com 2012-08-07 20:08:30 UTC --- We already have http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgFileExtensions plus we have also a pretty complex MIME/content type detection mechanism (see also http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/File_upload) some.file - uploaded as (autodetected), add default extension file.jpg - uploaded as the JPEG file, keep JPG extension file.jpeg - uploaded as the JPEG file, keep JPEG extension file.svg - uploaded as the SVG file, keep SVG extension But there is a problem too, suppose I want to upload today some.file.webm - upload as (autodected), I will probably get an error but once bug 30653 is fixed, it will become: some.file.webm - upload as WebM file, use .webm extension do you think this is too confusing? https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34703 --- Comment #7 from Mark Holmquist mtrac...@member.fsf.org 2012-08-07 20:13:15 UTC --- I don't understand what any of that has to do with this. The solution I just suggested would not affect anything like what files you could/couldn't upload, it would just be if the file extension (the string after the last '.' in the filename) is upper case, make it lower case. That's the only thing I think we need, plus another parallel solution for making it upper case. Would that be enough? We could also add a config option for funneling, e.g., 'jpeg' - 'jpg'. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
