Lemme take a shot at this and mention CENTRALIZED MANAGEMENT!!! I would think that that would be the ultimate reason for AD. The goal is to always think beyond of the existing setup. 10 users today could be 20 next month. Why take the chance and still be diddling with a workgroup when you can get
