Hi Ralph, W0RPK
I will write the formula in another arithmetical form:
NF = ( Vi x 10^-6 )^2 ) x 20 ) / (BW x S/N ) ) log) x 10 ) + 174
dB 10
where:
Vi = input signal in

A144-10 T is unpractical because the antenna and the phasing
harness are using PL connectors and the coax relays are normally
supplied with N type connectors.
You can't remove the PL connectors from the phasing harness

I have a pair of antennas, 440 and 2 meter LEO typical setup with G-5500
rotor and fiberglass horizontal boom.
It is mounted about 18 inches above top of tower on vertical mast.
I can probably push it up another 1.5 feet before having to add on to
vertical mast.
I would like to also hang a Cushcra
For a demonstration, the easiest route would be to modify a 2-meter
receiving downconverter from Down East Microwave or another supplier. Change
the crystal oscillator frequency and retune the IF output to 10.7 MHz. If
you have a choice of IF frequencies use 21.4 MHz as this would be closer to
During two passes of FO-29 - at around 0120Z last night and around 1430Z
this morning, I've heard some QRM that sounds like a digital signal. I
confirmed that others heard it too and it wasn't local QRM, so it's
obviously being relayed by the satellite. Downlink is around 435.860 MHz

It'll be great to hear 8P on the sats! I've only heard CO, YV, and PY
from down that way.
He'll certainly have plenty of hams to work when he gets set up.

Just fired up the station. That is the same thing that happens when K4AMG
is demo at schools and events. Just not enough OSCARs in our widow FM 16US
when the students are around. But we are so lucky to have what we GOT!
God Bless

It appears I failed to correctly identify the pass times. Thanks to NJ1H for
the alert.
Sadly, we'll be in bulletin mode by the correct pass times. So no luck today,
but Ishmael promises to activate 8P on his return.

A student in this year's USTTI/ARRL Amateur Radio Administration course
(Ishmael, 8P6PE) has asked to engage in a satellite QSO. We're going to take
advantage of the passes we have that work with the W1AW guest operating hours.
We will try FO-29 at 1845z and VO-52 soon after at 1850z. The pas

Someone gave me an old but new-in-box version of the same antenna a few
years ago. I did a shoot out between it and the three element Arrow. I
used a ten degree AO-7 and a two degree VO-52 pass for comparison between
mode B satellites.
My tests showed the Cushcraft in RHCP did not perform better
To make a long story short.
Try it before you spend more money. It probably will be a good antenna for
your attic. No water issues at that location. Set it up for LHCP and with
the current satellites it will work most of the times just fine.
Why pay big bucks for a "newer" one if this will work f
I had a buddy take his and slightly modify it. He took the vertical set
and optimized it higher in the band. So he had a Horizontal for SSB & CW
SWR great at the bottom of the band, and a Vertical resonant higher for
FM work, and Circular for sats, and the slight mismatch diddn't seem to

Hi Domenico.
Thank you for that formula relating sensitivity in a particular bandwidth to
system noise figure.
I have lost count over the years of the number of times you've posted just the
right piece of theory to answer a question.
Definitely time to say
Thank you.

While not 10.7 MHz you may find the circuit diagrams of the 145/29 MHz linear
transponders for the RS series of satellites of interest.
They are on the RadioSka
