Lee, I think it may be a nickname/alcuna. I think it is a misspelling of
"abelha", in English it would translate to "bee". Perhaps this person in your
line was a bee keeper or had some occupation related to that.

about Manoel's father, it looks like "Abillia" or "Abelha". I've seen
"Abelha" as a surname, but i'm not sure if it's correct in this case.
